I'm not saying this to be mean, but you've NEVER heard that ST. Louis was considered one of the wrestling capitals of the world Jerry? I find that to be very odd. I don't think the criticism of Larry has been "he looked after St. Louis guys" as much as it is "it's wrestling history told through St. Louis eyes." Yohe's post I linked to illustrates that very well. Larry has a perspective that runs everything through St. Louis. It's the reason it's impossible for him to give credit to Lawler as anything other than a "small time" guy even though Lawler headlined an 11k seat arena every Monday for the better part of twenty years, with the majority of that run being financially strong. It's the reason he thinks Rey is a marginal candidate for consideration at best. It's the reason The Crusher and The Sheik aren't in the book. Sam didn't like the wild man brawling act, he wouldn't have booked a small Mexican in a mask and Lawler was never a star there. St. Louis was a key wrestling town, but Sam had major biases and a very specific idea of what worked and didn't work in wrestling. For St. Louis I think it's fair to say it definitely worked. But when you have one town to run and have access to most of the top stars you can operate that way. You can't do that when you have an actual territory with a loop.

Somehow I missed this, but this is probably the most insane thing I've ever seen about a match on a message board. I literally cannot imagine this being true.

There is a Mike Rotunda match on this set I praised. Because It's a good match. I have no particular love or interest in Rheingans who actually disappointed me as I watched this match early and was blown away by how great I thought it was. I thought he was going to be a standout for the set as a "lost worker" type and he really wasn't. But just as Somers v. Rotunda is really good even though Rotunda is boring as fuck, this match is really good (better than Somers v. Rotunda in my view) even though Rheingans isn't exactly Mr. Charisma. I wouldn't say this is better than all the Bock v. Martel matches and would have zero problem with those being ahead on people's ballots. But I don't think the gap is big at all and I will have this match right with the pack of Bock v. Martel matches on my ballot

Crusher's punches look like they wouldn't hurt a handicapped hemophiliac infant and that cage match is basically an extended squash, but I don't pretend it's a shitty match

I didn't say it made me question your views on everything else. I said it's an opinion I can't respect and I don't. I have outlined explicitly why I thought it was a good match. Frankly the fact that you praise the Bock v. Martel matches so much and hated this match so much while simple citing Rheingans is a good indication that it all comes down to the fact that you just don't like Rheingans and don't believe he's capable of having a good match. Because on merit I fail to see what was radically different about this match and the Bock v. Martel matches other than perhaps the fact that the escapes of the holds in Rheingans v. Martel were more interesting/different. I suppose we can pretend they laid around and holds and did nothing, but I don't live in a fantasy world.

I don't get it either. I said it at the DVDVR but it's an opinion I don't respect. It's rare for me to say that even when I disagree with someone as I can usually at least figure out why people think something is good that I think sucks or vice versa. In this case it's so bizarre I have to treat it as the functional equivalent of "I think The Crusher is the greatest worker in AWA history and this set proves it."

Virtually every major forum disallowed ANY conjecture on the cause of death with banning threatened across the board for those who speculated. The reason of course is that a large number of people were privately assuming the worst...and they were right.

I actually think the sane rational thing to think was "Benoit murdered his family," but no one wanted to say it before confirmation and were "hoping" for something else. I was at work when I heard via a deluge of texts and a phone call from my wife and I pretty much instantaneously told her "well he killed them."

Fucking incredibly great wrestler, maybe one of the most underrated of all time. I haven't seen half the USWA as Tim and BJT is still a guy I would feel compelled to rate highly on a personal depth chart. Tremendous theatrical bumper, with a great way of overselling that is both comedic and authentic because it fits his character. I also love this guys punches and kicks. I know that sounds like minimalist fetishism but when he wants to crush someone with purpose he can. His perfomance in that tag match on the Texas Set might have been my favorable individual heel work of anyone on that entire set. And god damn is that Hugo match from PR awesome.

You need to contact our own Canadian hero Dave Musgrave. He put together an excellent comp of all the stuff that is notable that is available from Leo's career. I LOVE Leo in PR. Absolutely awesome in that boxing match with Invader which is an insane spectacle in and of itself. I know he's past his prime, but he does the little things so well and is just an outstanding rudo. There is also a match v. Frenchy Martin from Maritimes TV I enjoyed a lot for what it was last time I saw it. In any event contact Dave
