Frankly, Piper often stunk as a promo during his last run with WCW. I flip the channel when he comes on now.

My understanding is that it will be available to watch VOD shortly after the end of the show. And in general, they've been giving the option to start livestream shows from the beginning. So I'd be surprised if that isn't the case here.

I guess part of the value of the 6-month commitment is they'll have a long buffer if Mania is a semi-disaster. People won't just be able to cancel the next day.

That match wasn't so good, but if we're talking the whole decade, Kawada vs. Taue blows away Kobashi vs. Taue. At minimum, I'd take Kawada-Taue from 1/15/91, 4/18/91 and 4/8/95 over any Kobashi-Taue match. And their rivalry was also a highlight of the early '90s tags and six-mans.

Martel got revenge, winning via count out, on a show that drew 14,175, the largest crowd in the city since the glory days in 1974."

Dave's long bio from this week's Observer is full of interesting stuff. One thing that irritated me: Flair saying Billy wasn't a great worker and suggesting he was carried by Bockwinkel and Stevens.

I think they were trying to credit me after double charging me the first month and in the process, canceled me entirely. Anyway, I had to re-register. The call center folks could not help me at all.

I don't think it's fair to say that the match was good because Punk lowered people's expectations. It was good because the Undertaker knows how to do an effective WM match, and because CM Punk put on an excellent performance in the match. I am unconvinced that Lesnar has that kind of performance in him right now if Taker isn't physically able, but I also have decided to stop doubting the Undertaker at Wrestlemania until he has a match that doesn't get over huge. I was at WM last year and the level of interest in the Taker match was so far beyond anything else on the show that it was kind of embarrassing. I don't think Taker would have agreed to a program with Lesnar unless he believed he could take a major asskicking at Mania.

This was fun without ever building to the intensity of a really great wager match. The third fall contained the most exciting stuff, with some especially nutty dives by Cometa. But it also fell into some of that "this match could be happening anywhere" vibe Loss has talked about with modern wrestling. A wager match is supposed to be the ultimate fight for honor and yet I never got the sense these guys were actually "fighting." The lack of blood was part of that. Without any great brawling, the dives really had to carry the water for the whole spectacle. I enjoyed the subplot of Cometa and Stuka almost blowing it with miscommunication.

I actually liked this better than their Jan. match, though I'm struggling to articulate why. I guess it was because the demented stuff here -- Sami stapling dollar bills to Younger's cheeks and Younger stumbling around with a bunch of thumb tacks in his head -- was so demented that it felt like a goof on the very idea of these matches. It was basically a death match, and even if that isn't my favorite type of wrestling, I see a place for it.

This was a lot better than the tag match because at least there was a clear story: In order to win the big one, Briscoe would have to overcome outside interference and Steen destroying his bum shoulder. Now, the execution of the outside stuff, with ROH loyalists coming to Briscoe's defense, wasn't great and didn't totally connect with the crowd. But Steen's work on the shoulder came across pretty well, with both guys calling back to it late in the match. And the run of big moves at the end was overdone but not sooo overdone. So yeah, solid big-show main event, though not something I'm likely to revisit.

I expected this to be garbage but God did they live down to my worst expectations. Just formless and overstuffed. I could watch a video of squirrels running around for 30 minutes and get the same effect.

I try to rank each disc, then go back at the end and rewatch matches on which I still have questions. I might rewatch a series of matches from the same rivalry, for example, to see how they compare (think Rockers vs. Buddy/Somers from AWA). And I try to rewatch stuff on which my first impression differed greatly from those of posters I trust.

This was a lot of fun -- with a bit of comedy sprinkled on top of some holy shit spots. I guess what I liked was the tonal consistency. They never pretended this was anything but a blast of comic book action. And the comic book action delivered without going too "wink, wink" or overstaying its welcome. Oh, and I've always liked Ricochet.

Two European dudes doing third-rate New Japan before the eternally discomfiting wXw crowd. OK, that's harsh, but my favorite thing about this match was the fact it ended after 13 minutes. These guys brought some bits of nifty offense but evinced no fucking clue of how to build a match. On End's Twitter bio, he says "I travel the world kicking people in the head." Well, he should stop, because his kicks suck.

I think this match is still going on. Seriously, I like some of these guys a bunch, but this bored the shit out of me. None of the individual match-ups really popped. I hated some of the shit Shinzaki did, like the double German suplex and the way he sat up just to take moves from the top. Comparing this to, say, the Shield six-man from Elimination Chamber, is like comparing high school football to the NFL.

I have to say, watching this in the context of other non-WWE stuff from January has cast it in a better light. I've still never watched a Tanahashi-Okada match without my attention drifting during the body. God are they bland when working basic control sections. And I don't think either is a great offensive wrestler (though Okada's dropkick and Tanahashi's dive to the floor are great moves). But they're very good at constructing long runs to the finish that pop the crowd over and over. Compared to so much of the dreck out there, they really did build to key moments during the match. And those moments weren't lost in the Dome, which, as we've seen over the years, isn't the easiest thing to do. I'm still baffled by the folks who call this the best in-ring stuff of the last 15 years. But I'm softening.
