WrestleMania 36
I hate these all-finisher Lesnar matches. He's capable of so much better.

WrestleMania 36
That was phenomenal. As with the boneyard, so many leaps past a straight match between those two.

WrestleMania 36
Even Meltzer, an Edge mark, called this a "failure of the editing process at a level I've never seen before."

WrestleMania 36
The art of brawling is lost in most of modern wrestling. They should all be forced to watch tapes of '80s Puerto Rico with their eyes pinned open.

Edge-Orton is the drizzling shits. This show has gone straight downhill since the excellent opener.

WrestleMania 36
I was pretty skeptical upon seeing the initial wave of enthusiasm about the boneyard match, but that shit was a hoot. Overall show was far from a disaster. The elite workers such as Bryan and Asuka stood out even more in the empty-arena setting. The Becky-Baszler match hit the right notes. I skipped the ladder match and about half of Rollins-Owens, and I probably won't go back to those. But I left happy enough that I'll watch "live" tomorrow night. Went back to watch Cesaro-Gulak and that was terrific while it lasted. They came up with some really inventive counters while keeping things nasty.

AEW Full Gear
I went to the show and did not see or hear a lot of negative reaction to Omega-Moxley in our section. There was a lot of, "Oh God, what are they going to do next?" But they didn't lose the crowd, despite the length and the kickouts. Though it's not my favorite kind of wrestling, I appreciated their commitment. They envisioned a particular kind of spectacle and went all in to create it. The show as a whole was quite good. My 10-year-old went with me at the last minute (I was not expecting to give him a crash intro to death matches, but so it goes), and though he's not hugely into wrestling, he stayed engaged for the entire four hours.

NJPW G1 Climax 2019
Ishii-White was easily MOTN for a generally unremarkable Day 4. They're a natural match-up -- Mr. Bullshit vs. Mr. No Bullshit. I didn't mind the Moxley finish in the sense that I think he's a guy who should be able to end matches unexpectedly. But I agree he and Cobb left something on the table. I don't hate Taichi, but that match never grabbed me and never felt like a main event, despite the surprise ending. Still waiting for the breakout show or match in this tournament.

NJPW G1 Climax 2019
Night 3 was not as good as it looked on paper. Ospreay and Sanada didn't have much chemistry, despite their superior athleticism. Have no idea what put KENTA-Tanahashi in MOTY territory for NintendoLogic. Didn't think it carried the intensity needed for that, though it was fine. Okada-ZSJ was MOTN for me. I liked the decision to streamline their usual formula, and I always feel Sabre's style makes it harder for Okada to revert to his generic layout. I also believed either guy could win. I'm still waiting for a match to kick this G1 to the next level. So far, we're cruising along in the middle gears.

AEW Fight For The Fallen
That match had plenty of good stuff in it, but it was too damn long.
-
AEW Fight For The Fallen
Absolutely. Way more fitting, interesting than any of his late-period WWE guises.

AEW Fight For The Fallen
Big picture, this show has not really held my interest. Hoping the main event sends us out on a high note.

AEW Fight For The Fallen
Good combination of action and character in that six-man.

AEW Fight For The Fallen
Seems like it's fixed.

NJPW G1 Climax 2019
We got another solid showing to kick off the B block. I can't say any single match blew me away, though I could see some people feeling that way about Cobb-Ishii. But every G-1 match was exactly what it needed to be. Moxley and Shingo will both be exciting to follow throughout the tournament. And the main event exceeded expectations, in large part because Jay White really has come into his own as the promotion's No. 1 heel.

All Elite Wrestling
This is me. I haven't watched a minute of the pre-shows, so I find it utterly strange that this has become a primary debate when the company has done so much right coming out of the gate.

Current New Japan
Should be a blast overall--blocks feel more balanced than last year, though A is certainly star-studded. Sub Suzuki in for Archer or Fale and it would be that much better, but it's hard to complain given the overall effort to freshen the field.

There are conflicting reports about this, so maybe, maybe not.

[2019-06-09-NJPW-Dominion] Dragon Lee vs Will Ospreay
This was nowhere near as stirring as the BOSJ final. They did some cool shit, most notably that batshit Dragon Lee dive. But this felt much more like a generic junior showcase because Dragon Lee simply is not a great mountain to climb compared to Shingo. I understand the instinct to say less is more, but that wasn't the case here.

[2019-06-09-NJPW-Dominion] Kazuchika Okada vs Chris Jericho
This did not work for me at all. Jericho's New Japan schtick demands a fiery response, and that's just not Okada's strength. His offense doesn't fit in a brawl, and if the idea was that he'd trump Jericho's chaos with finesse, it didn't really come across until the actual finish. I was bored most of the way, and I'm not sure I want to see much more of Jericho in New Japan, though I have greater faith in Tanahashi to do something interesting with him.

Current New Japan
Nothing really popped on that show. The main event fell particularly flat.

[2019-06-05-NJPW-Best of the Super Juniors: Night Fifteen] Shingo Takagi vs Will Ospreay
These maximalist matches come down to a simple formula for me: Are the booking, physicality and creativity enough to sweep away my urge to nit pick? That was absolutely the case here, so I'm happy to call it a great match, even though I might find parts of it frustrating upon more careful examination. It was a high-end summer action movie, and I was happy just to go with it.

My exact thought while watching the match was, "Hmmm, he has a little Terry Funk in him."
