It happened in 97 also. Although it was on Superstars and they weren't wearing football uniforms. I think it was between The Nation, Furnas and Lafon, The Godwins and Owen/Davey. Good way to start out the set. Lawler was on a roll with his commentary.

Got my discs today and looking forward to start watching. 96 was my first full year watching wrestling and I haven't seen a lot of the WWF stuff since then.

I like that TNA mentioned they were trending on Twitter and about 30 minutes later, Matt Hardy debuts and instead of Hardy trending, Tyler Reks is. I guess people though since Matt now has a similar hairstyle like Reks, they are the same person? It's pretty funny. This deserves a Cageside Seats post.

I'm surprised Dylan didn't mention Tommy Rich. Reading the old observers and message board things, he gets a bad rap for being fat and out of shape and no good. After watching mid 90's USWA, he was easily one of the best parts of that era along with Lawler and Brian Christopher. His feuds with Jeff Jarrett in 93 and PG-13 in 95-97 were pretty great. Plus his work with Tracy Smothers and the FBI in ECW might be some of the best stuff ever. Easily top 10 manager of all time.

I don't see how the move to Syfy hurt Smackdown? It's obvious Vince stopped caring after the second week. The injuries and the addition of Michael Cole on the show hurt it more.

This is from the show where Rich loses the tag belts but gets the unified title from Lawler right? Rich was just awesome around this time with Doug and the underrated Scott Bowden.
