WWE TV 07/26 - 08/01 The Olympic Games are a wonderful event
Brother KawadaSmile would probably get a kick out of what just happened: my wife came in while I was watching the US team in beach volleyball, saw "BRASIL" on the opposing team's shirts, and had like a 10 second existential crisis that she had been spelling it wrong her whole life. She's dyslexic so that would have been very "on brand" for her.

RIP Brazo de Plata (Super Porky)
cubsfan just tweeted that his death was confirmed tonight, he was in poor health for a while. Not only was he part of one of the most famous trios of all time with his brothers, he's also the father of several wrestlers. Not the least of which is the ace of AAA, Psycho Clown.

Funny how life works. Dusty's kid emulates Ric Flair, and Ric's kid emulates HHH.

TBF I think they both suck, even if they stumbled into a good storyline for Corbin.

People should have been pissed that the NXT champ got geeked out, doesn't mean you have to use Keith Lee to rehab him when there's like a dozen 24/7 dorks who could have been in this place.

I just don't get why you'd beat Lee like this after going out of your way to make Kross look like a geek. I hope Lee's deal is up soon so he can go literally anywhere else.

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 4
Drawing power always seemed pretty clear to me. If someone appearing on your show sells more tickets or raises your TV rating, they are a draw. Now to be fair after a year with no fans and TV viewers not as into watching said no fans wrestling, it's been hard to gauge recent trends. Now that crowds are back and TV ratings have gone back to pretty close to what they were before the pandemic, it should be easier to parse who is moving the needle.

A lot of the WWE shows not moving tickets sold a ton when they announced the shows Cena would be appearing on. So if nothing else, he's clearly still a draw since people had no interest in buying tickets until his name was on the card.

AEW Dynamite - July 21, 2021 - Fyter Fest Night 2
Yeah the Dark Order/Hangman stuff has been great. From losing their leader to being the ones to give Hangman the confidence he needs to believe he can beat Kenny, it's been my favorite thing in wrestling.

I love seeing an older guy like Sting who gets it. Helped Darby reach the next level, and put over Orange,. Like Dave says, you might not get it (or even like it) but if something is over it's over.

Current New Japan
Covid hit everyone hard, but it sure seems New Japan has spent the whole pandemic getting kicked in the balls over and over again.

Yeah it seems pretty clear Bryan has signed and they are trying to keep it under wraps until after the PPV so it doesn't upstage the show and the Hangman story they've spent like a year slowly building.

WWE TV 07/19 - 07/25 Big E vs Lashley book it now
Broke-ass Baron is great, but it's hard to feel sympathy for a guy who's been portrayed as such an unrepentant dick for so long. Also Bix mentioned on Twitter that the "he keeps falling for obvious grifts" part of the angle comes off like it's secretly a rib on someone and he (and I) would love to know if that's the case.

The Weekly Pro stories remind me of Pro Wrestling Illustrated photographers having to buy tickets to WWF shows in order to take pictures.

That makes sense story wise, but they have to put *someone* on Raw eventually.

Nick Gage made a mistake, by all accounts turned his life around, and has devoted his life to his fans and the business. I understand death match style isn't for everyone, but all the handwringing I'm seeing makes no sense to me. Guy is one of the most positive people around and should be on the Eddie Kingston level of "dudes that deserve their moment in the national spotlight". I mean you can't have someone like him around every week since it turns into a watered down "violent ECW guy doing lame versions of what made him popular in WCW/WWF" kind of deal, but he 100% deserves this one shot.

WWE TV 07/19 - 07/25 Big E vs Lashley book it now
I guess Fox is putting a little pressure on WWE to get a return on their investment, but it seems like everyone is on Smackdown now and there's like 3 women on Raw.

I can't blame Joe, he's got a backstage gig with NXT and gets to have fun with a roster of people who largely haven't had the passion beat out of them yet.

WWE TV 07/19 - 07/25 Big E vs Lashley book it now
I guess it's hard to be too critical since they eventually got it right with her, but she could have been the female Cena in terms of appeal to kids with her old gimmick. I think she was the first (or at least one of the first) ""can't miss" NXT-to-main-roster prospect and that "Vince has grandkids, he'll get her gimmick!".....and yet......yeah.

Is the empire crumbling before our eyes?
It came from when it was a contest to find the next WWE superstar and "next" got shortened to NXT.

Hunter tried to talk Brodie Lee into staying by promising (somehow) he could work New Japan dates.
