Hulk Hogan Dies At 71
I'm not disagreeing with anyone who is not a fan of Hogan, but to try to dismiss his role in the history of pro wrestling is just insane to me. Yes, Bruno sold out the Garden every month for like 15 years, but Hogan took it nationwide, worldwide even. The national expansion of the WWF doesn't get to the heights it did with anyone else at the helm, he was the absolute perfect guy to embody Vince's vision. I get it if you weren't a fan of that vision, but it absolutely changed the game. Wrestling went from a territorial business to a national one worth millions.

Kneepads over jeans is proper hardcore battle attire for any 80s wrestler.

Hulk Hogan Dies At 71
It would be dishonest to leave out the good or the bad entirely, it wouldn't be a complete telling of his story. He was an industry changing icon who made a lot of money for a lot of people and brought millions of fans to pro wrestling, and inspired a ton of folks to get into the business. He was also a piece of shit who cheated on his wife, tanked the case the US government had against Vince in the steroid trial, and was caught on tape saying some of the vilest shit possible.....and that was all before hitching his wagon to the most destructive president in US history. All that is part of the story of Hulk Hogan, and omitting any of it would be doing a disservice.

RIP Hulk Hogan
TTK pretty much said it all. The start of my wrestling fandom was the build to WM 2 with Hulk vs King Kong Bundy on SNME. I was never a Hulkamaniac but he was a central part of how it all began for me. He was responsible for two of the biggest booms in the history of wrestling, Hulkamaina and the nWo. Very few people can lay claim to being the biggest attraction in their industry, and he managed to do it twice. He was a cultural icon in the 80s like Santo in lucha or Rikidozan in Japan. All of that made the final act of his life all the more sadder. The guy famous for the "work yourself into a shoot" line became an embarrassing parody of himself who seemed at times like he actually believed some of the hilariously obvious lies he would tell. It's actually sad that his legacy will largely be the racist old buffoon who often seemed out of touch with reality, but like TTK said you reap what you sow.

The set up was Taker's LFG guys were backstage in NXT and Trick started talking shit to them. Ironically in the context of the overall show it seems like the goal is to establish LFG since Ricky Saints also put over the winner (and fellow Team Taker guy) Jasper Troy. It's really odd since you would expect they would put the LFG people on Evolve first since they went through the effort of setting up a whole farm system.

Clearly he fell out of favor, probably because he was very openly a Cody Guy, but he hasn't been setting the world on fire in WWE either. If I didn't know better it almost feels like when Vince would sign someone from the competition and then job them to to prove that this guys were better.

I wonder if Ricky Stark-Saints is second guessing his choices now that he's jobbing to the LFG winner on NXT TV.

Is Impact* the best wrestling promotion in history? *(Now TNA again, 2024)
It is wild to me that NXT barely was able to sell out tiny ass Center Stage and TNA is having their biggest house in ten tears tonight. That's not how I expected this partnership to work.

Is my recency bias showing or was that one of the all time blowoffs in wrestling history? My kneejerk reaction to thinking that was to think I'm overrating it, but I can't think of too many occasions where a feud ender hit perfectly on practically every note.

WWE goes ALL-IN with NXT The Great American Bash and WWE Saturday Night's Main Event on Saturday and the all-women's WWE Evolution on Sunday
Thinking on it, I'm realizing the reason the fans are warming up to Charlotte is they are flipping the script on the tired old WWE "tag team partners who don't get along" trope. Instead of a team you know is going to implode, you're waiting for them to admit they like each other.

So its looking like the Bash show was a flop so their big idea to counter program All In fell on its face. Yet they will still keep fucking that chicken and continue doing it.

I see that apparently Charlotte's Players Tribune article managed to finally get her a babyface reaction. Call me skeptical, and believe me I'm sure growing up with Ric Flair as your dad was no picnic, I find it very convenient that she decided to write that after all the rumors/grumbling of her big timing people.

She won, so I guess it wasn't a total waste, but a battle royale was the best thing they could come up with for Vaquer?

WWE using a Katy Perry song for the Evolution hype video after she's been Internet Villain #78908908 for being out of touch with her rocket ship trip is just peak WWE.

Take it how you will, but Bryan Alvarez mentioned that he heard the last 40 minutes of SNME were changed because there was a segment that had to be scrapped. The implication was that the plan was for Goldberg to win the title and for Seth to do the cash in. While that makes this suck even more for Seth if that was the case, it's also impressive that Gunther was told at the last second he's going to have extra time added to his match with BILL GOLDBERG and was able to go out there and make it work. Also to be fair, kudos to Goldberg for being okay with going out with a straight loss. He probably could have that-doesn't-work-for-me-brother'd the idea, but he was okay with taking one for the team.

Mox's best match anywhere that I've seen IMO. Him panicking over his impending death after eight months of him leaving bodies in his wake was the perfect capper to this storyline.

By the way, I assume everyone has seen the Players Tribune short film on the Briscoe family but if for some reason you haven't you need to watch it immediately. Easily one of the best wrestling related things I've ever seen. It's sometimes hard to separate Mark from his more goofy TV persona, but the way he stepped up for his family is remarkable. Him talking about the day Jay died and there's a moment where he just stops mid sentence and it's clear he's reliving it in his mind was heartbreaking. It should also not be overlooked how badass Jay's girls are for how they've recovered from their (serious) injuries. The older girl even seemed to be channeling Jay when she was talking about being told she would have a difficult road to recovery and her response was basically "fuck that, I'm not letting my dad down".

So Adam Cole got hurt taking a lariat in the six man on Collision, and it sounds like it might legit be a career ender but like he said in his promo he isn't in the right head space to make that decision at the moment.

Starting SNME now that All In is over, and I'll say one thing Jelly Roll has lost a ton of weight but he looks like he's in the trap of "still wearing fat guy sized clothes even though you are significantly smaller now" that often comes with that kind of weight loss. Source: I did the same thing when I dropped 80 lbs.

That match was everything it needed to be times a hundred. The Death Riders vanquished, Hangman is redeemed, Danielson avenging the end of his career....everything was perfection.
