  1. I would think a women's show would have a better chance, but it would have to be branded as a Steph joint to ensure it wouldn't get the 205 treatment. Folks like us would hate it, but Vince would fight the tides of hell to make sure something his Princess was featured in didn't fail.
  2. sek69 replied to MoS's topic in AEW
Cody did an interview when asked about AEW talking with Punk (which he confirmed he did and basically Punk was asking for stupid money), and it let to him discussing that everyone expected them to spend all their money and go broke quick because it's a company run by wrestlers, but he made it clear how they want to do things fiscally responsible since he feels that is the one thing that will help them the most in the long run. I can't help but think how someone like Chris Harrington might be the secret MVP of the company since the dude's whole passion is economics, especially involving wrestling. It can't be stressed enough how important it is to have someone watching the numbers who knows what they are doing, considering how many other companies big and small were brought down by mismanaging the finances.
  3. An alternate universe where ESPN puts more promotion behind wrestling because they got on board with a company on the upswing rather than one that for all intents was dead within a year of being signed is certainly interesting.
  4. Dave has told the story that the ESPN deal was between Mid-South and the AWA, and the tipping point was the ESPN executives knew who Sgt. Slaughter was and didn't know anyone in Mid-South despite it being in much better shape creatively/financially.
  5. So we've been working at home since this mess started, and my company had the bright idea to send us all web cams so we can see everyone's faces in team meetings. I just prepared for this by ordering a Pentagon Jr. mask.
  6. Gedo is absolutely a long term booker, which is why everyone was a little baffled at this result because it clearly was something that was probably booked to happen much later than now.
  7. Seth is obviously being handcuffed by stupid scripts, we've all seen him on Twitter. Seth silliness aside, they remembered Shayna and Bianca exist and that was cool. The key is if Vince can be convinced that a woman doesn't have to be heavyset to be a monster heel, since Shanya is a natural fit in that role. Bianca and Ruby as a team makes me think somehow they found the random name generator WAR used for their six mans, but at least Bianca got the win so that at least was a positive. Bayley/Sasha vs Kabuki Warriors was once again a good match.
  8. I mean, all things considered after the life he's lived it's kind if amazing he's in as good shape as he is.
  9. It's very lucha of Rey to sell having his eye rammed into the steps by having a mesh covering over the eyehole of his mask.
  10. Bart Gunn looks like he's still in good shape.
  11. Shayna coming out to choke out Seth right there would have made her the #1 babyface in a heartbeat.
  12. Apparently the plan is for them to have a cinematic match and have a CGI eye gouging.
  13. I was worried they were going to put Shayna in the 24/7 division.
  14. It's also weird watching the company congratulate the Horsewomen for the 5 year anniversary of their main roster debut and shattering the expectations the company themselves set for women's wrestling. I guess that's what happens when you awkwardly co-op what was a legit pushback from fans on how poorly women were being treated. It's still hell of a thing for a company to pat themselves on the back over.
  15. There wasn't any technical limitation per se in terms of how high quality the audio could be on the N64 itself, it's just that being cartridge based had file size restrictions. A *lot* of developers just decided to do fix that by doing the maximum compression possible which made it sound like shit.
  16. I'm actually shocked that KO was the one who was able to get WWE to put in a mandatory mask policy, since he's generally a guy with no fucks to give when it comes to possibly rubbing people the wrong way and those types tend to not succeed in the company. Imagine though how Roman must feel. Dude endured years of creative bungling and still happily plays the role of company man while at the same time having to keep his distance from said company, only to have Kevin fucking Owens come in and get WWE to start taking this shit seriously. Like you have to think he's having a 'why don't he want me, man?' moment wondering why the top guy not trusting his co workers to act responsibly wasn't motivation enough for the company to act.
  17. AKI were god damn wizards when it came to making wrestling games. two decades later and still no one has figured out how to make one better.
  18. So Charlotte, prompted by the need to take her mind off a broken AC, went on Twitter to talk about her issues with having silicon poisoning from a leaking implant and how her current time off is due to having a procedure done to correct a cosmetic issue related to that. In an ideal world that should lead to a discussion of the industry leader setting expectations for women that lead them to believe their only option is to get tons of (usually unnecessary) plastic surgery, but that has become a third rail that everyone is afraid to touch, since any mention of it gets twisted into attacking the person who mentions it as someone bashing women based on looks. It kind of ties in to the previous discussion on how there is a real issue with groupthink in that company, which one might be tempted to call cult-like in many ways.
  19. Okada vs Yujiro sounds like something booked as the starting point for Okada righting the ship and climbing back up the mountain again. Speaking of, there's something ironic about Yujiro getting a push when Pieter isn't around. His act loses so much without her. Nothing lamer than a pimp with no women.
  20. I mean, a lot of the roster doesn't have the option not to go to work to be honest. Most of the people at the PC and in NXT get paid peanuts and probably can't afford to not go to work. It its absolutely on them to not be going out and not taking proper precautions though, no argument there. I do wonder though, considering the horrible takes (not COVID related ones, but more general right-wingery 'have you tried not being poor" ones) we've seen from homegrown folks like Braun and Corbin, if there's not some kind of indoctrination going on with the company that is going on that is leading to this attitude so many have Sure, there's likely some of the usual "young people think they are indestructible' going on, but it makes me wonder if there's something else at play. Also it could be proof for my theory that spending excess time in Florida causes brain damage.
  21. Those of us who cut our PURORESU teeth on 90s AJPW tapes (and N64 video games) will likely get a little misty listening to all these classic themes.
  22. Ironically I could see them doing what the Rock N Rolls do now, and work a version of whatever the style will be 20 years from now.
  23. I also wonder if Naito ended up in a Dalton Castle situation where by the time he finally got his championship win he was too beat up to do anything with it.
  24. Both Evil (obviously) and Taichi's wins came off as Gedo deciding we need to solidify these guys as top players right F'N now. If were's being honest, seeing Taichi being put so hard over Tanahashi and Ibushi surprised me more than Evil. I never saw him as anything more than the guy to take the fall in six mans, and maybe get some wins over the Young Lions on their way up. I have to admit, dude more than held his own in there and looked good. I still think the gimmick is silly but I can allow that's probably because it's more cultural based on how big idols are in Japan.
