AEW Dynamite February 5, 2020
MJF is the wrestling equivalent of an athlete in "real sports" who has all the tools and talent but lacks the seasoning needed to go to the next level. I have much more faith he can reach his potential in an environment like AEW as opposed to one where everything unique about him gets painstakingly scripted away until he's another indistinguishable cog in the machine. Will he step up and deliver the performance of a lifetime at the PPV? Nothing's certain of course, but considering the mindset of the people involved I wouldn't bet against it.

Not to mention Goldberg matches are best when they are kept as short as possible. No one wanted to see him go 10+ minutes in 1998 let alone 2020.

I would think there's something you could do with EC3 as a babyface. He has tons of charisma, and since the in-ring is the weakest part of his game he can do a program where some heel bumps all over the place for him.

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 4
Another UFC PPV, another day of people calling in to my workplace asking how they can order it. ESPN is kind of doing a shit job making it clear people have to sign up for a proprietary streaming service to watch these shows, and it becomes my job to educate these people who then get pissed at me because they can't order it directly on their TVs. Don't yell at me buddy, I may be a bald white guy but I'm not the one who made this deal.

Also the point was made that Heyman has always been involved with Brock's creative and now he runs Raw, and Brock doesn't strike me as someone who even knows what Twitter is let alone giving a shit what someone is saying on it. Not saying Vince isn't annoyed at Riddle, since it seems like a guy like Riddle would annoy a guy like Vince, but it is interesting how both explanations would fit.

Wardlow nearly cutting Cody in half with the belt was a really underrated part of that segment as well. Established him as more of a threat before the cage match.

He certainly has the ability the Rock had to take material that would be stupid for anyone else and make it work.

It really should have been obvious who those videos were for in retrospect, but it was a nice surprise.

Riho bouncing off the table instead of going through it made that look way more brutal than a table spot normally looks.

That sure seemed to be the plan at one point, but that was before the Austin-lite gimmick got so over.

"Property Of" shirts are pretty common in the sports world, the idea being that fans are buying apparel only real members of the team would have access to. If anything, those shirts in the PC photos are WWE embarrassingly trying to glom on to something someone else made popular.

It will never not be funny that Kazarian turned down a WWE deal back in the day because they were in the phase where no one but Hunter could have long hair, and he refused to get a haircut. Then he promptly started shaving his head not too long after.

Digging Mox's commitment to the Pirata Morgan look.

The Cancellation of Jim Cornette
I made the comment because Cornette is an unabashed disliker of Trump but acts exactly like him when upset. Had nothing to do with your comment, was in response to Thread Killer's comment on how Jim reacts the same way to politics he doesn't like as he does with wrestling. I can see how my Mauro crack could be seen as a cheap shot, but it was meant as a way to illustrate diagnosing mental illness over the internet isn't exactly something that flies anymore (not that it ever should have, but I digress). Unless you were trying to infer he had some sort of physical illness and I misread your intentions.

AEW is adding a second show soon so they will be able to feature more of the middle card guys on a more consistent basis. Rey would be a good fit as the mentor role he's kind of doing now.

The Cancellation of Jim Cornette
Especially coming from the board's #1 Mauro fan to boot. You can say a lot about Corny, but mentally ill is not one of them unless you're going to call being stuck in his own ways to a self-parodying degree a mental illness now (which it is not). It is pretty funny he has such a hatred for Trump, yet he reacts pretty much the same way when presented with someone or something he doesn't like. Someone should point that out to him one day and see if his head explodes.

AEW didn't fully exist when Rey re signed, at the time they wanted to keep him from AAA where he had been on some of their bigger shows.

The Cancellation of Jim Cornette
I have no doubt this was true, at least for a while, but he's seemed to have crossed into full "worked into a shoot" territory. He seems extremely (for lack of a better fitting word) triggered by Dave constantly pointing out that he's no better than the old guard in previous generations who claimed the new era are killing the business with their flippy stuff only for them to be considered legendary by that era's fans. It boils down to Dave saying "you may not like it, but it draws money so in business terms it has just as much merit as the stuff you liked" and Jim getting disproportionately angry over it.

Suspending Rey seems like a good way to have him appear on the next AAA show if not elsewhere.

He got a concussion on Raw a couple weeks back. We're apparently at a point now where newz sites will turn any injury into a "Is this a Wellness Failure".

The Cancellation of Jim Cornette
It's one thing to work a gimmick, it's another to seemingly torch long time real life friendships over having an IRL Prinicipal Skinner "No, it's the children who are wrong" moment.
-
The Cancellation of Jim Cornette
This seems to be the root issue here. I'd bet Cornette was convinced AEW would fail since it's all the people he hates coming together to form a promotion. The fact that it not only didn't fail but was able to turn into a profitable business ahead of schedule seems to have hurt him on a psychological level. Seeing something that so encapsulates what he dislikes being accepted on a national level appears to turn in to him internalizing it as wrestling fans giving him the finger personally.

IIRC Fantasma had a legit job in Mexico so he might have been trying up loose ends before getting started in the US.
