WWE TV 1/6/20-1/12/20: At least 2019 is finally over
NXT being witty by turning the former Robbie E of TNA fame into a Tony Kahn spoof gimmick.

AEW Dynamite - January 15, 2020
I also love Page and Kenny's tag team gimmick being "drunk guy and his sober friend who has to keep apologizing for his buddy being an asshole".

AEW Dynamite - January 15, 2020
I love how Corbin seems to be hate-watching AEW on his twitter feed.

People were posting in the catch all AEW thread. Also I popped for them doing the Dusty-Road Warriors angle with Jericho and Mox.

Shelley's a coach at the PC I believe.

"Triple H shoots himself in the foot" thread
Hey, he messed up and copped to it. In an era where most would double down and make things worse, at least he realized the mistake and apologized.

R.I.P. Rocky Johnson :(
The Soulman had one of the sweetest dropkicks of his era too.

Are the problems in modern wrestling Mick Foley's fault?
Just like garbage wrestlers grew up idolizing Mick, a lot of Japanese wrestlers grew up idolizing Misawa/Kobashi and wanted to emulate the AJPW 90s style. It took Misawa dying in the ring for the point to finally be driven home that head drops aren't great for long term health and even then you still have guys like Hiromu who break their necks (granted that was an accident) but feel they need to prove they can still take crazy bumps when they come back.

Considering Vince would be Vince regardless, I can't fault Mick for the bad skit comedy. I believe he has stated some regret that his career inspired people to do more dangerous bumps without realizing he only did them because that was the only way he thought he could get over in the era he did them.

All Elite Wrestling
Yeah we need to not look at this like it's WWE adding time to their already bloated list of shows, it's adding another hour to a promotion that clearly can use it to build their characters and storylines better.

He is pretty good at making crap WWE verbiage work, which makes him look like Dusty in his prime compared to most of today's WWE.

Wrestling in the US lives and dies on TV money. If the people giving you that money want more shows, you give them more shows. Which is why WWE can't get rid of the third hour of Raw despite it being a show killing anchor most weeks. AEW would be the one group at the moment that would benefit from more time. They can expand on their storylines and gimmicks that currently play out on their various YouTube shows. WWE was already over saturated before NXT got an extra hour, AEW wasn't. Now if they end up with 7 hours a week like WWE has, then you can make the case they are overextended too. Plus I also get the feeling we're going to see a lot of names appearing in AEW soon that will easily fill out any extra TV time they get.

Not to mention they are once again having a Saudi show the day before a Smackdown show, where folks are going to have to rush to the airport after the show and hope the Vince & Prince Connection don't have another blowup.

He did, but to be fair that NFL dude was Lawrence Taylor who's probably the only person who could out-cocaine Vince.

Well at least Vince (usually) will book his wrestler to beat the Real Fighter Guy, Inoki would have sent Brock out to get his ass beat in a shoot fight to try to establish pro wrestling as strongest.

AEW Dynamite - January 8, 2020
The Dan LeBatard show on ESPN did a segment on AEW's Bash at the Beach show in Miami (the show is based in Miami too) and had Jericho on as a guest. Pretty neat to see a non WWE show getting some pub.

"Triple H shoots himself in the foot" thread
Someone made a good point that stuff like this is why investors are wary of HHH taking over one day. For all you can say about Vince, he'd never say something like that in a public setting (I 100% believe he'd say in in private though).

I'm not as hard on WWE as some are (I've come to terms with "It Is What It Is" at this point), but the thought of Wrestlemania being main evented by Brock vs Some Real Fighter Guy is kind of soul crushing. WWE will never come close to achieving the potential their roster has if they don't create new stars, but it's clear at this point Vince will never allow that since he cannot stand when his guys leave to be bigger stars outside of his control.

You never want to armchair diagnose someone, but when you look at photos of the guy from his FCW days it literally doesn't look like the same person.

"Triple H shoots himself in the foot" thread
Besides the obvious slut-shaming context, there's also the fact that Paige has been open about not being able to have kids as well. Considering he made those comments right after talking about the well being of talent, it made him look like a clueless putz on top of everything else.

WWE TV 01/13 - 01/19 Adam Sandler got snubbed and that hack fraud DiCaprio got in.
Raw gonna get slaughtered tonight going up against the college football championship game. Will WWE try to counter-program or will this be one of those shows they know will have a bad rating and punt to next week?

AEW Dynamite - January 8, 2020
Word's out that Brian Cage just signed a deal with AEW, which explains the weird way he was written out of his match with RVD on the Impact PPV tonight.

Is Impact* the best wrestling promotion in history? *(Now TNA again, 2024)
You know, the show was pretty good all things considered.
-
Ring of Honor Wrestling
From what I've read, Marty wants to rebuild ties with New Japan and the NWA (which is why Nick Aldis has shown back up in ROH) and try to establish ties with AEW.

Interesting to see they seem to have changed the accent color on the belts from Impact Blue to more TNA looking red.
