Well if the Jimmy Havoc story is true, maybe they bonded over sharing chokehold stories.

The pre show has been great so far. Love watching Mox walking around an empty 2300 Arena reminiscing about CZW.

At least the Shakespeare line set up a jab at Cornette's expense ("you were in the room with him!")
  4. I hope this story is true if for no other reason that it means Atlas is their shoot security team.
  5. I'd wager Excalibur looks less goofy without his mask than Havoc does without his.
  6. Yeah, but Hulk was already a big name thanks to being in Rocky III (WWE revisionist history makes people forget that happened before he came back to the WWF).
  7. On one hand, yes they're all big boys and girls and at the end of the day they have the right and ability to tell Vince to GFY if they want to. On the other hand, the imbalance of power is real and I can't really be too mad at someone not wanting to the the first one to fling themselves under the bus. It's like when free agency happened in baseball: it was a godsend that changed the balance of power from owners to players, but the guy who made it happen (Curt Flood) had his career ended in the process.
  8. British crowd goes nuts for British superstar, rest of the world continues not to give a flying fuck.
  9. The tapings for both Smackdown and Raw seem like huge garbage fires.
  10. Cosplay really needs to disappear from the vocabulary of wrestling fans nowadays.
  11. Not everyone wants to sit at home and collect a paycheck for nothing, to get to the point WWE is interested means they have ridiculous levels of drive and I can't imagine 95% of the roster content with Ferris Bueller-ing their prime career years.
  12. Wrestlers have been conditioned for the last 20+ years to not rock the boat and be in constant fear of unemployment, I'm sure that's some shit you just can't forget because there are more options. Plus you have to think the wrestlers are getting a constant stream of misinformation and FUD about all the competitors to make them not sure they really have a choice.
  13. Honestly I was thinking the same thing. It's kind of gross how certain circles have misused a real symptom of emotional trauma because they heard a feminist use it once.
  14. It's also basic psychology. No one wants to be the tallest blade of grass to get cut down first, so if you put everyone in the room and ask someone to speak up odds are no one will want to be the first one to do so. Especially since as the WON bit mentioned, it wouldn't have made any difference. So why cut your own throat for no reason? Most of these people have families and I'm sure saw the meeting for what it was and I can't blame them for not wanting to martyr themselves. Especially since with the nature of wrestlers, there was a pretty good chance anyone who did speak up would get hung out to dry by everyone else there. Hunter waiting until the end to call out Karl was a bitch ass move though. Comes off as a 100% "don't forget who has the biggest dick here" play. It's just amazing how a guy can hit the lottery personally and professionally and still constantly reveal himself to be the most insecure, petty motherfucker possible.

I mentioned it in the main Network thread.

It's been a known issue with the Network since the beginning I believe.
  17. I mean, there is the reality that someone the age of Cornette and Hogan growing up where they did would absolutely be exposed to the mindset that it was okay to use the language they did. The problem is that doesn't give them an unlimited pass to be a shithead long past the point anyone could reasonably believe they still felt it was okay. Unfortunately as we see in all walks of entertainment/politics/athletics, people will often engage in all sort of mental gymnastics to ignore or somehow handwave way shithead behavior in people they really like and don't want to see tarnished in any way. It sucks, but sometimes people you liked end up being shitheads, and it's okay to acknowledge that. It won't make your memories any less valid to do so. Hell, I grew up in an age where Bill Cosby was considered America's Dad and that certainly didn't age well. Doesn't change one bit I loved the hell out of his shows as a kid.
  18. The funny part is Memphis was seen as the "outlaw mudshow wrestling" of it's time and that's what he grew up on. You would think he would understand that even if something isn't his cup of tea that people tend to gravitate toward something different than what the mainstream is offering. I've always had issue with this excuse. My grandpa calling black folks "colored" (when that was the proper term in his day) way past the point it was no longer acceptable is more in line of what you're trying to say here. There's never been a time the n-word was considered acceptable, and even if you're raised in an environment where it flows freely you come to understand that fairly quickly once you're out in the world. As far as Cornette is concerned, I think it is a gimmick in the sense that he knows it will keep his name in the mouths of modern fans. He doesn't seem to realize that it's because he's seen as a bitter old crank (or at least someone trying to convince you that he is one) rather than the encyclopedic fountain of wrestling knowledge he should be known as. It's like he buys into the "there's no such thing as bad publicity" argument.
  19. Possibly, but then they run the risk of having another woman that the crowd won't accept as a heel.
  20. I didn't even catch it the first time, but Cody said when the Elite and the Inner Circle meet it will be a "match beyond". That just happens to be one of the trademarks he picked up when he was trying to get as much of Dusty's intellectual property as he could back under his control. That tells me it's pretty much a lock that we'll get a War Games match in the not too distant future. Also I would think Cody would have at least a couple month run as champ coming off of this. Not only would it be paying off something that would make the fans happy, it would solve the problem of Jericho being champ when he faces Tanahashi at Wrestle Kingdom.
  21. Charlotte was one of the big towns on the old Crockett circuit. They had tons of Flair vs Dusty encounters there. Edited to add: I just looked it up and the arena they were in tonight was the same one JCP ran in the 70s and 80s, so there's even more of a connection.
  22. Taynara and Santana Garrett out there shouting out Orange Cassidy with the slow motion reversal into a rollup attempt spot. Also speaking of commentary, Mauro's gonna Mauro but someone pointed out that Beth is basically Champ from Anchorman and I keep expecting her to yell out I LOVE LAMP!
  23. VIRGIL!
  24. The gimmick sucks, but having a good working team that everyone else can beat isn't the worst thing.

Also this was announced today https://www.retromaniawrestling.com/latest-news/national-wrestling-alliance-and-nwa-champion-nick-aldis-coming-to-retromania-wrestling Getting the NWA studio ring/set in a video game that wasn't someone's creation has been something I've always wanted but never thought I'd ever get. 2019 is wild.
