  1. AEW declaring their wrestlers are employees would be good PR and another way to distinguish themselves from the "evil empire", plus it would be a great recruiting tool that would force WWE to either change their stance to adapt or risk ceding ground to the competition. Lest we think Vince would never do such a thing, remember they started offering guaranteed deals after WCW started luring away their top stars by doing it. Another reason why it's good to have competition in wrestling, it pushes WWE to do things they will never do without it.
  2. One thing that might be key here is there were a few other states looking to do bills like this and were basically looking for someone else to do it first to get any potential heat over it. Since CA took the plunge it will be easier for other states to follow suit now, and considering the Ubers and Lyfts of the world pissed off a lot of people with their practices, this may be something WWE and AEW have to address rather than ignore. It won't kill all wrestling in the state though, since indy companies are the ones who's talent actually are independent contractors. It would only affect companies who restrict their wrestlers from working for other companies.

Corbin's like the current WWE developmental system in a nutshell: he was brought up before he was ready just because he was a big guy, was put in a position to fail where he was slotted at a level above his ability. He's closed the gap between his ability and his level on the card, but the company poisoned the well on him with a lot of people. He's going to have to work twice as hard just to not be seen as the annoying authority figure dressed as a waiter.
  4. Re: Bruno, I doubt he personally was involved with the mob, but there's no doubt mob guys would be fans of his. Kind of like the Yakuza guys who were big New Japan fans back in the day (and probably still are but they were more visible back then). The (W)WWF was big on the ethnic hero babyfaces, and Bruno was the Italian hero. I wouldn't be surprised if someone came to Bruno to offer to "take care" of Larry for him. Edited to add: wasn't it heavily rumored if not outright stated that Victor Quinones was not just Gorilla's godson but his actual son? I seem to recall it being confirmed or at least no longer denied after Gorilla died then it came up again when Victor died.
  5. As opposed to the impact it would make to give up the ghost on the independent contractor BS? Absolutely.
  6. So I looked into this further and I did find it, airing at 10am on Monday on the Spanish PPV channel. Great job all around. Poorly planned, poorly promoted, poorly scheduled. Worst of all, AAA will most likely react to the low numbers this show gets by deciding the US just isn't interested in having their shows. With any luck the LA show will do good just because it's a more of a traditional market for them.

The bar is so low now that the moment someone doesn't actively suck out loud anymore there's a weird undercurrent of "I knew he was great all along".
  8. At worst, California won't see any WWE shows for a while like how Oregon was left off the loop back in the day when they required drug testing. Don't get me wrong, laws like this are a start, but until something happens on a federal level it will be easier for companies to just do business elsewhere.
  9. Yeah here in Pittsburgh it airs (multiple times) Saturday and Sunday afternoons. In a way it kind of reminded me when someone would bleed on 80s WWF TV and they'd have the big red X up on the screen. Made it seem more gruesome than it actually was.

Dave stated that was his first thought when he heard they weren't doing Takeovers on PPV weekends anymore. They haven't officially stated it, but since NXT has been turned into the counter to AEW I would be shocked if they didn't start running them on AEW PPV weekends instead.

WWE probably doesn't even realize how it makes them look like Baghdad Bob to try to claim people will starve to death when they leave, when Chris Jericho is the AEW champion and Jon Moxley will probably be in one of the headline matches on their next PPV. Also the fact that Cody is one of the ones who created the damn thing. But yeah, there's no life for anyone outside of WWE.

It's been the point of every wrestler vs management angle they've done for the last 20 years, and it's going to look even more ridiculous when there's another national wrestling promotion on TV every week.
  13. So I just checked and it looks like Comcast isn't even carrying this show on PPV. It's like AAA did a reverse Crockett with this show and didn't realize having it on the same day as a WWE PPV meant no one would be carrying it.

Considering one of the jobbers Heavy Machinery beat was named Alex Keaton, apparently 3rd graders who watch reruns of 80s sitcoms.

The Fink was backstage at Raw last night, nice to see he's still able to see friends after all his health issues.
  16. ....and then Anthem had to go Anthem it all up by firing everyone at AXS who built it up as a major outlet for combat sports.

Weird that Bray specifically called out Austin in the Funhouse segment, which made me think the Fiend was going to attack him at the end of the show.

So when I check my bank account, it will sometimes mark stuff like "this is a purchase you haven't made before" in case it is some kind of fraud deal. It flagged my purchase of AEW tickets, which made me realize it showed up on my account as "TM- BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN".
  19. The only one I could think of that comes anywhere close is Flair, really. He was at or near the top everywhere he was at from about 1975 until 2001, and then periodically in his last WWE run. The difference with Negro is while he's obviously slowed down a bit, he's not gone into the "embarrassing old man" stage most fall into at his age.
  20. Plus you have to consider UG's a main booker in CMLL so he probably looked at the options for a singles main event and thought "fuck it, put em in a cage and I'll face the winner". Also AAA seemed to set up some angles for Heroes Immortales, looks like Taya and Akayo Hamada are going to be doing something, possibly a ladder match since they beat each other up with one (and other assorted plunder) in their match. They also had Argenis (Caristico's brother) state that Myztezeiz Jr doesn't have the right to wear that mask since he's not part of the family (Myzteziz was the gimmick the original Mistico used in AAA, the Jr is the former Angelikal who is in fact not related to them at all but is Bandido's cousin). Argenis then laid him out and bloodied him up, to the point where Jr ended up doing a stretcher job. So that's probably going to be a mask match at some point. Then Wagner came out during the main event wearing a Mankind-like mask to sell the fact he got hit in the face with a goddamned cinderblock, and proceeded to bash Blue Demon's hand with a hammer. It was noticeable that a lot of folks got new themes on this show, mostly replacing actual songs with in house music. Psycho Clown got new music too, which was odd since it wasn't already an existing song prior, but maybe AAA felt the generic circus music wasn't proper for a main eventer. It was also noticeable that Wagner still came out to Bad Medicine because of course he did.
  21. It is kind of weird though, you'd think someone like Shane would get out of jury duty since A: he's rich and B: you'd think lawyers on both sides would think having him on a jury would be a distraction (unless the rest of the juror pool was old ladies who've never heard of wrestling).
  22. It was a clear reference to the jokes about how HHH replaced Shane as Vince's "real son" and how Shane's like the Tiffany Trump of the McMahon family. Like El-P said, Dave has a pretty deadpan sense of humor and the people who want to play gotcha on Twitter with his words almost always fail to realize this. Also that MeltzerSaidWhat account was one of the main things stoking the "Dave called Peyton Royce fat" kerfuffle when it was clear Dave was just trying to find a way to point out she was better in the ring before she got her main roster mandated boob upgrade. That whole feed is a hellscape of concern trolling and gotcha attempts.
  23. Ciber's been pretty bad just kept to trios though, I wouldn't be surprised if they thought having UG try do a Anniversary show main event singles match with him was too much of an ask (despite the fact I'm fairly sure UG could manage a decent match with any of us here).
  24. Also it's probably a case of whoever the last two in the cage match are (most likely CIber the Main Man and Ultimo Guerrero) was probably meant to be the main event, but CMLL didn't think they could do a singles match without sucking. The problem with this particular match is it's composed entirely of people too new for the CMLL audience to care about losing, or there's no way they are going to lose in a clusterfuck cage match. Also a pretty "only in Mexico" moment happened on today's AAA taping being shown on Twitch: Santana and Ortiz showed up being billed as LAX, despite Impact helping AAA run their NYC show. Because wrestling promotions in Mexico don't give a fuck about what gimmicks you have copywritten.

I would wager there was probably some music that wasn't dubbed properly or somesuch thing. That's usually the reason things get pulled that fast.
