The way they were lingering I was expecting a "you think the show is over, but here comes an angle" twist a la NXT.

Somewhere Braun is looking to charge Charlotte with gimmick infringement.

"Ladder matches have ruined the careers of WWE Superstars" said Renee while sitting next to Edge's wife.

Looks like a Triple H/NXT style production.

It's on the whole Last Battle in Atlanta show under Hidden Gems.
  7. So was the Yoko-Duggan match that offended everyone the one where Yoko squashed him and draped the flag over him?

Watching the show now, and holy crap is the quality great for something that was apparently sitting unmarked at the bottom of the Turner vault somewhere. If the proposed higher network tier leads to more stuff like this getting unearthed, sign me up.
  9. In his promo he framed it as being after his football career and before he started in WWE whn he was first diagnosed. Dave was just mentioning, more or less in passing, that the 11 years timeframe was a bit off, he wasn't making it a big deal at all. edit: here's the actual quote to show how overblown any concern is: That's all he said, one sentence in a several page story on the issue. edit 2: there was another mention: Still, nothing to suggest he's questioning anyone's honesty. Just Dave trying to be as accurate as possible on the timeline.
  10. All he was saying is that Roman's statement of "11 years ago" was a little off because he started in WWE in 2010. Wasn't questioning anyone's honesty at all. Just someone concern trolling.
  11. You can set the bar anywhere though. Vince covering up a murder for Snuka, allegedly raping Rita Chatterton, just barely avoiding a federal steroid conviction (and comparing it to 9/11 later), having dead wrestlers stacking up like firewood and not doing anything until someone died on their watch, honoring a raging homophobe by naming an award after him.....
  12. It's Psychology 101. People feel personally attacked when their "team" or "side" does something wrong and gets called out on it. That makes them lash out at the people doing the calling out instead of having to focus on/deal with the bad behavior. Politics is the most obvious place you see it, but it happens anytime someone has a vested interest in something. I see it all the time in the video game world, a company does something like release pay to win DLC or some other anti consumer BS, and there's always people rushing to the defense of the company with some kind of "well if you've never complained before you're a hypocrite if you do now" rationale.
  13. OK, JYD's officially my favorite wrestler of all time now.
  14. JR still speaks highly of him as a mentor and has had him on his podcast. If it caused any damage it's been smoothed over.
  15. I won't watch the show, largely because it's going to be a bloated 4+hour show that probably won't have any long term implications over filling a vacant title. The geopolitics suck, but it's hard to take a moral stand when I've watched for decades despite all the murders/racism/misogyny/general shithead behavior that has pretty much defined the business since day one. Perhaps it's a nilhlist point of view, but it's pretty much where I'm at right now. Plus like Charles said, once you start down that path it's impossible to have a totally clean moral slate.
  16. WWE really didn't have a choice here (I mean, other than not signing a ten year deal with a problematic government in the first place), once the deal was made they painted themselves in this corner. If they don't go they take a financial hit bigger than this show as the investors would freak out and the stock would plunge. Between the upcoming midterm elections, bombs being sent to various opponents of the GOP, and them being that rasslin' company, WWE is just banking on people no longer paying attention to their show after a week or so. Really, they have no reason not to. What's the worst that can happen? Bix writes another piece calling them out, people wag their fingers at them on social media, and then they collect those fat TV checks next year.
  17. The JR stuff was always fascinating to me. I know that in any field when there's a new boss they want to put their guys in, but he want from a fairly high executive position to out on the curb in record time.
  18. Dave mentioned on the show today that Samu is battling liver cancer as well now. This poor family is taking a pounding at the moment.
  19. It was mentioned in the Q3 investors conference that the show is indeed still going on as planned.
  20. It hasn't been a good look for a lot of folks online feeling the need to couch their support of someone diagnosed with cancer in terms of their feelings toward the product. It goes both ways too. People shouldn't feel the need to preface their sympathies with "I never liked him/his push but....", nor does it do anyone any favors be like "I bet you feel like shit now, Roman haters!" It's like someone getting upset at an athlete getting injured because how it will effect their fantasy team. It's gross when it's a running back with a torn ACL, it's ghoulish when it's something like this. On a positive note, it has been uplifting to see other companies like New Japan and ROH offer their support. Maybe it's my turn to be the asshole here, but something tells me if Okada was diagnosed with a terrible disease we probably wouldn't get any comment from WWE.
  21. I bet I could make a pretty educated guess why both of them would no show.
  22. I also think that UK stars of the past suffer some of the same curse of a lot of US territoral stars, in that because their company eventually went under it's used as a club against them.
  23. That makes sense, it's just amazing that a guy can go through two of the most gossipy careers possible and word never got out before now.
  24. I just get the impression, right or wrong, that it's impossible for any UK star from the past to get any traction since until recently there was no way to get footage. Plus I recall back when people first started discovering shows like World of Sport, some folks were kind of off put by the rounds system as some alien form of wrestling. Plus there's an inherent bias in voting for guys you grew up with, sometimes unknowingly. I would suspect a borderline candidate that the voter was aware of growing up is going to have a thumb on the scale compared to a UK guy.
  25. I was surprised he was able to keep stories of his past battles quiet, especially considering he was a guy who might have been on some NFL teams radar (as a lower round pick, but still) and they are always spoiling to get dirt on guys. NFL writers have nothing on dirtsheets when it comes to SCOOPZ. I hope he'll be able to recover fast from this, not even in terms of a wrestling comeback, but in terms of a guy with a wife and 3 kids. When they were doing that campaign about how to be a dad, there was a billboard of Roman and his daughter having a tea party on my way to work. It was always a reminder that no matter what nonsense happens in the stupid rasslin' world, these are people with lives and families.
