I understand the thrill people get over being contrarian on the interwebs, but even with that it's a stretch to say DK was overrated. Sure he was probably the biggest douchebag in the history of wrestling outside the ring (and think about the ground that covers), but it's crossing the line to willful ignorance to not acknowledge he was doing things in the early 80s very few people could do.

I know it's Dave and his fans are going to parrot pretty much whatever he says, but how long is he going to get away with saying all real sports should be marketed like pro wrestling?

I think rock n' roll makes a better (and far less creepy) analogy than porn. The Rolling Stones still can do all their classic hits (or "spots" if you will) and the long term fans will be all "YOU STILL GOT IT! *CLAP CLAP CLAPCLAPCLAP*" but at the end of the day it's still 60+ year old dudes running around on stage looking like your dad when he tries to look hip in front of your friends and ends up causing you to die a little inside out of embarrassment.

I don't like WWE removing Benoit from history, but at this point it's obvious they are not going to change their position anytime soon. I can understand their point of view, you can't blame a company that is trying to recreate itself as family friendly PG fun for trying to make people forget they had a double murderer as champion not too long ago. I just don't see the point of getting mad about it anymore, it's not like it's going to get them to change their minds. I do sometimes wonder if they're more mad at Benoit for bringing more attention to steroid/HGH use than the murders. I have a feeling had the murders happened like they did but it didn't result in half the roster getting caught up buying their stash from mark doctors, they may have started putting him back on video releases.

Honestly, if a parent allows their child to watch pro wrestling then someone using steroids probably won't be on the top 5 list of things morally wrong with that picture.

It was never stated as anything personal against Dolph, but more along the lines of Rey actually expecting Vince/WWE to live up to the deal they agreed to. It did make me think, that if things fall apart and Rey ends up on the outs with WWE, where does he go? Is he still boys with Konnan? If so I'd imagine his only real option would be AAA (I don't know if the Konnan/TNA beef is settled, even if it is they seem to be in a three way working agreement with New Japan and CMLL anyway). That actually would seem to be the best fit for him, considering ever since WWE started touring Mexico it seems the old school fans still prefer CMLL but the younger fans seem to be watching WWE over AAA.

The one here in Pittsburgh was in the Civic (now Mellon) Arena. It may have been the one I was at where they opened the roof back in the days when they could still do that.

I don't recall WWE announcing what people failed Wellness tests were taking since the Harry Smith fiasco. Also, this is the wrestling business. There's been tons of things that guys could and should have sued over but didn't because it will effectively blackball them from plying their trade. I mean, yeah he could always find work in Mexico but I don't really think he's eager to go back to working bullrings in TJ after being a WM main event. Rey's comments just came off sounding like a dude who realizes he's been worked by a pro and will just take his punishment and move on.

Unless someone is working Dave, he's said repeatedly that the plan was to have the belt on Dolph by now but politics changed the result. He also would mention that Rey was promised a long title run when he was making noise about leaving. It was never explicitly stated that Rey personally changed the finish, but it was clear those were the dots the reader was supposed to connect. Also this: So they tell a guy when he's on the other side of the world that he has a day to provide a prescription. If that's not a sign that he was being taught a lesson for expecting the company to live up to their side of the bargain, it's at least a pretty awesome dick move on their part.

People on the net tend to far overestimate the percentage of fans who go online, especially a guy like Rey who's fanbase is mostly kids.

Even a guy like Vince who's famous for holding weird grudges isn't crazy enough to hold a grudge that would keep a potential WWE Network from getting major clearance like the Mark Cuban/Comcast beef that keeps HDnet off the air.

I couldn't disagree more. Since they are not watching the match together, and both are arguing a point, this may be the only way of effectively arguing thier point and allowing the other person to find a specific example. I use it regularly in the 80s nomination threads and all of us in that process have watched matches multiple times to confirm our like or dislike of a match. There's a difference, you're doing it as part of a project that involves finding the best of whatever time period/promotion you're working on. If GLF was sitting ringside timing matches because he was working on awesome comps, I doubt he would have the reputation he does. If you need to watch a match multiple times and have someone provide you time stamps of alleged botched moves or sloppiness in order to determine if something sucks or not, then as the LOLcats say, you're doing it wrong.

No dis to anyone involved, but watching a match multiple times in order to nail the time stamps of botched spots not only misses the point of pro wrestling but is also pretty GLF-ish.

An interesting twist on the debate is that in the AWA Hansen defended the title against a still green Leon "Baby Bull" White, and it's the most I've ever seen Hansen sell for someone in a US match. I was expecting it to be another crazy brawl ending in a double DQ or countout like most of his AWA matches seem to be, but it was a pretty decent "strong style" kind of match where it was two dudes beating the piss out of each other.

You know, it took watching the Eddy-Angle match up on WWE On Demand to make me realize how much I missed watching Eddy. You can talk about moveset and work rate all day, but my favorite part of his matches were the devilish little kid faces he'd make whenever he found a new way to cheat. And really it was kind of amazing that he was able to turn the very basics of heeling (lying, cheating, stealing) into a babyface gimmick that got over pretty big.

His WWF run was handicapped because of the stupid gimmick he was stuck with (more than one actually), but anyone who says Jarrett's TNA run is bad is being willfully ignorant just for the sake of hating TNA.

It would be hard for anyone to spin this latest bout as just a side effect of the marriage breaking up/Karen shacking up with JJ when Kurt has a history of crazy. It would be way easier for the prosecution to point out how you have a guy who's mental state is questionable at best + drug problems and then throw a divorce and the ex taking the kids and shacking up with his co worker. I hate to sound like a broken record, but it would be nice if anyone cared for a second about the well being of Kurt Angle (not to mention his kids) instead of how his personal problems might mess up a PPV. For all the hand-wringing that occurs online when there's Yet Another Tragic Death, you get the feeling we're seeing another one happening in slow motion, yet even on WO.com the only concern was if he was going to be able to make it to the show on time.

Should Glen Jacobs be lighting people on fire? Okay, that'd be awesome, but the question still remains Lighting people on fire and driving around a parking lot deleting photos from a cell phone are TWO entirely different things. Exactly, one is a pro wrestling gimmick and the other is a guy who's legit physically and mentally breaking down. It's easy to laugh at Kurt and by extension TNA and their wacky antics, but the more you watch Impact the more you wonder if they're the 2009 version of WCCW.

The great thing about wrestling is that it's probably the only profession in the world where no one would have stopped to think that maybe this guy is batshit insane, oh I don't know, maybe when he decided to hide a broken neck before wrestling in the Olympics. Or maybe when he had drug issues so bad even by pro wrestling standards WWE didn't want to have him OD on their watch. Or when he continues to wrestle with arms so atrophied from nerve damage that he looks like Kendall Windham circa 1988, which you'd have to think puts his opponents at risk of getting Misawa'd if he ever loses sensation in the middle of a move. But since it's wrestling, hey why not make the guy your world champion and for all intents the face of the company?

You tend to dislike a guy less if you need money.

They do that almost every time they go there now. They wonder why they get the "bizarro world" reactions (that they really don't get anymore, but whatev), maybe it's because every time they do TV up there they spend the whole show slapping them in the face with their collective dick.

So I don't get why would you have Sgt. Slaughter guest host RAW when it's in Canada? None of the current fanbase has any recognition of him as a heel unless they watch the Mid Atlantic stuff on WWE On Demand.

I'm not saying AJ isn't a good wrestler, but I don't see how he's an irreplaceable part of TNA. Him leaving shouldn't be the thing to hold off pulling the trigger on any changes that need to be made.
