  1. You also have to suspect this "no one saw this coming" stuff is all bullshit, especially from people who knew him in WCW. Regal was one of the guys who lived in the same plan as Benoit and knew about the domestic problems they had, which was probably the main reason he looked the way he did on the tribute show.
  2. OK, maybe I should ask what happened to that place. Hack? Server crash? Rob finally said "fuck this place"?
  3. Cause, you know, WWE would never attempt to profit from tragedy or personal issues (like having them be discussed in books, which is what I assumed he was referring to, a potential book deal). Jesus, JR is rapidly moving up the all time douchebag list.
  4. I was going to ask what happened to that place.
  5. See, the fact that Necro can wrestle when he wants to makes it all the more baffling to me he'd rather tear himself to bits in front of small deathmatch crowds. I get the old "different strokes for different folks" argument, but like Bobby Heenan said if you're in wrestling for anything other than to make money you're in the wrong business. Doing deathmatches won't make you a lot of money. That style has a lot of devoted fans (which kind of scares me, but that's a different topic), but it's not the path you'd choose for financial security. In fact, it lends itself to serious injury that would wipe out any money you'd make. Necro is really good at what he does, he's also good when he wrestles without gimmicks. I've seen a couple of his matches and they were indeed quite good. I guess my argument is while someone like Ian Rotten pretty much has only the deathmatch gimmick to go with or be out of a job, Necro has shown he doesn't need to do that stuff to have a good match and still does it. It just seems a waste of talent IMO.

I think Meltzer has auto-complete macros on his word processing software, see also that issue of the WON that had WWE as WEW about 20 times.
  7. I know Brock was talking shit, saying Nagata is a paper champion.
  8. A friend of mine who's a trainer and a workout fanatic decided conduct an experiment to see just how easy it was to get a hold of steroids/GH/testosterone. Within seconds he found this site: http://www.forbodybuilders.net/ Anyone need some dianabol or deca durabolin? http://www.forbodybuilders.net/injectable-c-28.html They go into detail on there how they ship anywhere in the world, even to PO Boxes. Not to excuse Dr. Astin at all, but trying to get any reasonable handle on steroid distribution seems to be like trying to kill roaches one at a time.
  9. I was reading in the WON that NJ was threatening to sue if Inoki used the IWGP belt Lesnar kept as the title of his new IGF fed. Well not only did Inoki use that belt, Angle won it in the match they had and went on TV with the TNA and IWGP/IGF belt. So would this have any effect on the talent exchange TNA had with NJ?
  10. So I'm trying to shake off the dark cloud of the Benoit situation by continuing my series of (hopefully) thought provoking threads. Next up: Necro Butcher, what's the deal? I hear him get talked up a lot, and while he's not bad by any means, I don't get the amount of love he gets. I know he does non-deathmatch stuff but he's primarily known for taking horrific amounts of abuse in matches to a Foley-in-Japan-esque level. I'm sorry, it doesn't take a lot of talent to get torn up by weapons and barbed wire. Some people are into the deathmatch stuff, and that's fine. Whatever floats your boat, different strokes and all of that. I just always thought the point of pro wrestling was to convey the idea of what is going on is causing physical pain, not to actually inflict bodily injury on yourself. He's the most indy-est looking indy guy I've ever seen, he's like the Little Spike Dudley of the 80s WWF Hillbilly family. I can see how he can be a cult favorite or a niche star, but people are seriously saying things like "Necro: best wrestler of 2006?" and I just don't get it. Is it some form of ironic LUV that I'm missing the boat on or do people really think losing 3/4ths of your blood in a weedwacker-barbwire-broken glass-cage match is some form of high art?
  11. Marty seems more like a booze/coke/weed kind of guy to me than roids, so I'd wager Jindrak just for the WCW-Atlanta connection.
  12. Do those who've already signed up have to re-sign for each month? If so, count me in. You pretty much nailed it for me how the Benoit situation kind of cooled me off of wrestling for a little bit, but I'm getting back in the saddle now. I also have a vacation coming up where I'm gonna be off from 7/7 to 7/16 so I'll be using a portion of that time to get caught up on some hot men-in-tights action.
  13. I can't see how OG could be anyone but Rey, both from the uniqueness of the initials (does anyone else have "OG"?) and from the fact that Rey looked like a 12 year old boy when he first came to WCW and now (as it was said on DVDVR of all places) he's basically Lashley minus a foot of height.
  14. Dean Hill was awesome during the Johnny Jeter/Matt Cappotelli angle where he became so upset at Jeter he stood up and just went off on him. He's a tall motherfucker so it added visually to the idea of a usually mild mannered announcer losing control when faced with such nefarious heeling. That whole angle was one of my favorite things of the last 10 years, it was so old-school and so well done that it made baby Jesus weep that all WWE could do with Jeter was to make him a male cheerleeder. That was pretty much the writing on the wall that none of the guys I was really into watching would ever make it in WWE. In fact, the only one from that time who's on a WWE roster was Elijah Burke and it's an exercise for the reader to determine if being a midcarder in ECW counts as making it.
  15. That's the kind of stuff that makes people not take the WON HOF seriously. For everyone who has a logical reason to be voting there seems to be 2-3 chuckleheads who get a vote because they pick up Dave's dry cleaning or some other inane bullshit.
  16. Aren't ROH and NOAH part of that group that every fed in Japan other than AJ and NJ belong to?

How was Baroni able to walk out of the ring after that? I know adrenalin lets you do crazy things, but damn.
  18. Ironic that the match that put MVP over the top in a lot of people's eyes is now effectively erased from history. If one day MVP ends up a star and the inevitable career retrospective DVD comes out, WWE will have it that one day he just magically became viewed as a A level player.
  19. I think a case can be made that Angle was let go for general craziness as well as drugs. since I got the vibe that WWE thought Kurt was going to do what Benoit ended up doing. Wanting to keep working despite having severe muscle tears is abnormal behavior to say the least.
  20. We all kind of figured it would end up that way, but it's undeniably clear now that the "Wellness Policy" was nothing more than a empty PR move in response to Eddy's dying while under contract. It kind of makes you wonder if the people who failed were stupid or set up by the company, as it seems that a brain damaged chimp could find a way to beat the testing. It's going to be interesting if WWE loses any sponsors or TV due to this.
  21. From Tim Graefe's review of the ROH PPV: Homiesaywhat? I think I heard something snap in my head when I read that. How can you watch everything a company has ever done but pretend to be a total newcomer for the PPV show? Of course the review is capped off with this: I think my nose is bleeding.
  22. It would appear that the 7/4 update didn't take place for us here. I'll have to check when I get back on Friday if it was due to the holiday or due to WWE request.
  23. One thing mentioned in the WON is that Vince (with Stephanie's support) is in total us-against-the-biased-media mode where EVERYTHING is going to be spun like crazy to deflect as much heat off the WWE as possible.
  24. What stuff has been edited off Nitros? I can tell when watching that something was cut, but I don't remember what. I just assumed it was ads for those contests they were always running/Nitro Party cut-ins/etc.
  25. Bix, how many times were one or both of us involved in the "who's on steroids" threads that would pop up on DVDVR and mention Benoit, only to get shouted down by people who would post his workout schedule and go on about how it's COMPLETELY POSSIBLE to be that ripped despite traveling most days of the week? I know it's unlikely at this point, but what more is it going to take to make people deal with their own bullshit when it comes to the truth about their favorite pro wres fighter?
