Poll for 11/13/06; Hulk Hogan vs. Big Show at Wrestlemania XXIII
I'm wondering if the stories about Show's health aren't being worked a bit. Sure, ECW style has to be hard on a 500 pound body, but this is almost exactly the same stories that circled around WM III, which was very much in doubt due to Andre's back problems. As badly as they want to re-create Hogan/Andre, they just won't be able to. Years of comedy have pretty much robbed Show of having the air of the bad ass unstoppable freak of nature that heel Andre had. Even though it was exaggerated for the storyline, it was still a while since Andre had been beaten or slammed while everyone in the WWE has slammed or beaten Show at some point. Maybe as part of the buildup, Show will be suspended for no showing house shows and we'll see the debut of the Show Machine.

Kurt Angle on WOL
True, but he's an active participant who's dealing with crippling pain (wasn't there something in the last WON about him needing a wheelchair to get around at an airport?).....surely he's not just gritting his teeth or relying on Tylenol. He seems to blow both the "TNA doesn't let hurt guys work" and "TNA doesn't stand for drug use" defenses out of the water singlehandedly.

Kurt Angle on WOL
Odd that when Angle mentioned TNA wouldn't let anyone work hurt that Dave didn't jump on Konnan who's been putting off hip replacement for months now.

New Kurt Angle article from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette
This is going to warp the mind of the "OMG YOU HAVE NO PROOF ANGLE TOOK PAINKILLERZ~!" crowd, along with Angle apparently trying to challenge Hogan in the History Re-Writing Olympics: So in this story we find out: Angle was indeed the major addict that everyone was reporting, but was able to quit cold turkey despite taking more painkillers than anyone in wrestling history. He begged WWE for time off, and Vince said no, undoubtedly twirling an imaginary villian moustache whilst saying it. His sister died of a herion overdose despite it being reported at the time she had the same heart problems that killed their father and plauge the Angle family. He claims he knows when it'll be time to retire, despite continuing to work with limb numbness and a painkiller habit that would knock out an elephant. At least he didn't claim he bodyslammed a 700 Big Show in front of 100,000 in Wembley Stadium.

WWE 24/7 and/or DVD Hilarity (or "OMG VINCE REWRITES HISTORY)
Been noticing that some things are being changed recently, most noticably that on the new Hogan DVD they edited out Heenan's "BUT WHO'S SIDE IS HE ON??" comment and the replies to it, and Heenan's reaction when Hogan turned ("I KNEW IT"). That kinda bugs me since it was like Heenan finally was validated for hating Hogan all those years in the WWF. In several shows, they have addresses or phone numbers from contests or promotions running at the time the show originally aired. They cover up the on-screen phone numbers but they don't edit out anyone saying the number. Sucks to be the person with that number now. Also, is it me or do the Nitro portion of the Monday Night War shows seem pretty short? They barely reach an hour and a half, was TNT showing that many commericals?

Favorite Hulk Hogan Lies!
Well considering that was in the 70's, that could be possible. Considering kayfabe was going strong and Hogan was a fan, he coulda been like the "IT'S STILL REAL TO ME" guy.

Didn't Stephanie say Nidia was too fat or something?

Fact Or Fiction II: The Return Of The Long Forgotten Answer
Here's one: In the Pena obit in the WON, Meltzer suggests that Vince got the idea for the replacement Diesel, Razor, and Double J from Pena putting new people in the gimmicks he owned in AAA. Now there was a deal between the two in place, but I have a hard time believing Vince would borrow an idea from a Mexican fed he clearly felt was below him.

Say what you will about the new ECW, but Heyman coming out for the main even in a tracksuit with taped fists had me cracking up. He looked like he could be Triple H's crazy jewish uncle.

Fact Or Fiction II: The Return Of The Long Forgotten Answer
I've got one: Is Rock really related to the Samoan Wrestling clan, or is he their equivalent to Brian Pillman as "close friend to the family who's considered one of the gang"?

Favorite Hulk Hogan Lies!
One of my personal favorites is his claim that the WM III match was up in the air because no one knew if Andre was going to do the job or not, when even Vince said (on the Hogan Ultimate Anthology no less) that it was because Andre didn't think his back was going to hold out.

Wrestling thoughts that probably don't deserve
There was a hilarious story in the latest WON about Hogan telling people that he hurt his neck when Taker tombstoned him to win the title back in 1991. He apparently was selling backstage as if he got dropped on his head and Taker felt bad about it for a while since he's got a rep for being safe with the move. At some point Taker finally watched a tape of the match and realized Hogan's head wasn't anywhere near hitting the mat and he got pissed about it. I just had this image of Taker watching and rewinding the tape getting progressively more pissed off while lightning strikes hit all around the TV.

WWE.com's 2007 DVD Release List
I believe Loss said it on another board, but I really hope the Horsemen DVD stops when Tully and Arn left for the WWF in 1988 and doesn't dwell on all the "subsititute teacher" Horsemen we got in the 90s and 00s.

WWE.com's 2007 DVD Release List
I was just wondering the other day when they planned to do anything with the WCCW footage, since they haven't shown hardly any of it on WWE 24/7 yet. It's going to be hard to top Heroes of World Class as far as a documentary goes, I hope they make up for it by loading the extras with matches. Also, is it me or does "Rey Mysterio: The Biggest Little Man" sound like a rejected porno title?

Wrestling thoughts that probably don't deserve
While I appreciate that his family was able to work WWE, it's not quite as entertaining overall as "Big Daddy" Bruno Beefcake: http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/search/s_137454.html Somehow a friend of mine met Mr. Bruno Beefcake and got an 8x10 glossy photo. My friend knew of my wrestling fandom and insisted I knew who this guy was and I had no fucking clue.

Halloween Havoc 99 question
The end of WCW all tends to run together in my brain, can anyone remind me what was the deal with the Hogan-Sting match here? They intro Hogan first, (who doesn't come out) then intro Sting, then try to bring Hulk out again who finally comes out in street clothes to do the whole "lay down for the pin" thing and leaving. Was this an actual angle, or just backstage bullshit bubbling over to TV?

Wrestling thoughts that probably don't deserve
I know it's cliche at this point to bash the WWE writing team, but how much does it speak to their abilities to script promos when fucking Kevin Federline had the promo of the night on RAW? If he's ever stupid enough to divorce Britney, he's got a fine career ahead of him as a heel manager. That promo he did was very Andy Kaufmann 2006 style. Not too often do you see a "celebrity" expect to be booed *and* encourage it to the point where "controversial" John Cena got a huge pop to confront him. Not to mention it got Nitro and Melina over since they actually produced one of their celebrity friends instead of always talking about them like your buddy's girlfriend in Canada.

Wrestling thoughts that probably don't deserve
I didn't watch, but if they kept to kayfabe, Maria should have been bare ass naked within 5 hands of the "Diva Strip Poker" thing on ECW. I mean, her character is such an idiot that HHH has to explain what "Suck It" means, yet somehow she's able to grasp a decievingly complex game like poker?
-
Wrestling thoughts that probably don't deserve
Random thoughts: HHH again proves he doesn't pay attention to the internet by having a segment where DX responds to the comments the net has been making almost verbatim on RAW. I was shocked that Edge was allowed to point out that DX is a recycled gimmick from 10 years ago. Either he's got pics of HHH banging someone other than Steph or they're going to dump the mother of all burials on him next week. After watching Candice Michelle do a poor man's Elvira gimmick as the WWE 24/7 Halloween host, it seems clear that she's mildly retarded. Hearing her speak borders on painful, she has a speaking pattern that can only be described as a female version of Rick Steiner's halting brain-damaged style after huffing a tank of Helium. Benoit-Regal from No Mercy might be the stiffest US match ever. It was awesome to hear JBL marking out on commentary. It rules when you have two guys who are comfortable with each other in the ring like that and the results are a match where both beat the piss out of each other in a completely enjoyable manner.

Invader I does a stabbing angle.....
For those of you not aware, he's the guy who stabbed Bruiser Brody. He's doing an angle in the IWA in Puerto Rico where Savio Vega stabs him with a fork: STAY CLASSY, PUERTO RICO!

Antonio Pena passes away
This is fairly big news, some folks are predicting the demise of AAA as well. To put it in a US perspective, this would be like if Eric Bischoff dropped dead during the Monday Night Wars.

Interesting interview from a former WWE Production Assistant
Basically that the company doesn't want wrestling fans to work in the production department, but all the PAs were required to watch 6 hours of wrestling a week (on top of working 45-50 hour weeks). They purposely don't list credits so no one can take credit for anything which lets WWE hold it over everyone's head that their jobs are expendable. He also mentioned stuff like WWE having their library on a giant server like machine where if you wanted to find every time Terry Funk did a certain move you can punch it up and get all the matches. Also, the Attitude Era stuff is unblurred in the archives and needs to be reblurred every time it's used. He hints that they do it that way because they're holding out hope they'll be able to use the scratch logo again (the lawsuit is still pending, they just started blurring to avoid any further claims by the Panda People). It's a huge pain in the ass, that's why you don't see it too much in DVD releases and almost never in promos and packages. Said that everyone in the company knows SmackDown is the B show, despite upper management trying to drill it into everyone's head that both shows were equal. There was also funny stuff like guys on the production staff not knowing HBK and Razor had a ladder match, and that Todd Grisham is a funny guy despite having almost zero knowledge of wrestling. He also mentioned that HHH is probably one of the nicest guys in the company (mentioned he came to the production studio while the guys were having lunch and just sat around BS'ing with them for like 2 hours) but he gets a rep for being a dick because he's such a perfectionist when it's time to put in work. One bombshell he mentioned was that according to folks on the writing staff, Randy Orton's suspension was a work. They wanted to move him to RAW and try to give him more of a bad boy edge, while working the "dirtsheets" at the same time. All the stuff like him talking about smoking a joint in WWE Magazine was just part of the work to make him seem more like a bad dude. The official company line is that TNA is considered just another TV show they compete against like 24 or whatnot, but every episode of Impact is recorded and logged (to see if any former employee uses a WWE trademark perhaps?) while UFC was not.
