Match Ratings - Doing Away With the Meltzer * Formula
If I get the time at some point (looking unlikely), I'm going to isolate the part I mean so everyone can watch it together. I thought it was lame as fuck. Maybe I'm too used to Backlund's row row arm wrenches. But Azteca looked like he was tugging on a limp noodle.

This is not the first Martel pool angle I've been involved with .... Remember this?

When you put it like that Steven, good point. You might try the never seen Martel vs. Garea money angle too, when the old disco king finally gets jealous of the young stud. I'll give you that for free!

Random questions thread
If it's the one from 82-3, it's alright. He has a match with Harley Race which is in the same ball park too. Both around ***1/2.

It will take some creative booking to get a long run out of those five guys. More power to you though.

Poor man's Backlund

John Cena - Turn Of The Century
I question the wisdom of making him US title holder too, but that's just me.

I think the latest time I argued that is when people were saying Rusev should go over. There's no way Rusev goes over in that spot ever.

At this point you're trolling me. First Rodz, and now this. McGraw was definitely on my radar too. A really solid midcarder here. Lower midcarder / JTTS more like, but he is solid in the role.

Do you really like that arm work where Azteca is tugging on Dandy's arm in the lamest possible way imaginable? I don't see what makes it "unfounded"? It's not a very good piece of business.

I used to be more on the side of looking for objective criteria, but as time wears on, I think increasingly that there's no way around the subjectivity argument or relativity. Look at Angel Azteca vs. El Dandy. Several people here think it's an all time classic. I really didn't enjoy it. I stated reasons too. I was told to stop comparing the matwork to 70s US / Japanese matwork, that wrestling isn't a personality contest, that I need to be able to speak Spanish to get it. That the context matters. That in Lucha these tropes which look so fake to me are standard and I have to accept them, etc. etc. Look at Funks vs. Abby/ Sheik '78 or Patterson vs. Slaughter, which are two matches I have nailed on as 5 star because I love them. No one else seems to like them as much as that. Those are both examples where I seem to be an outlier, but there's no other way to reason it through than to say "yeah, it's all subjective". The phrase bothers me and always has. I may write a book about it one day, because there are things I can never reconcile, but I'd rather not get bogged down in it all here.

I went to a Transformers movie once and it was insanely awful, yet the crowd was hugely into it and it made a huge amount of money. Does that make it a good movie? I don't think the movie analogy is very helpful to be honest. What's the equivalent of "art house" wrestling? The art forms are too different to be meaningful.

It's a difficult one though. Chief Jay Strongbow vs. Mr. Fuji at MSG has an electric crowd, it's electric. Every single move counts. The psychology is absolutely spot on for that crowd at that time. You can't fault either guy for not doing more than they had to. You can't fault their timing either. I still thought the match was absolutely horrible. Who is right? Me or the crowd?

John Cena - Turn Of The Century
I would like to point back to times when I said that no babyface in history has ever been bullet proof and that Cena can't afford willy nilly losses. Everyone told me to shut up.

lol, he's so old-school Southern he says "golly" in earnest. Ha ha.

Can't help but love David Crockett. Hadn't appreciated how deeply he was involved in WCW production post-sale. I knew he was around, but didn't realize he was actually hands on involved.

Trade deals
I would take Mike Jackson but he will only take losses. He'd be joining the enhancement scheme.

After this last pick, now is officially the time I'd had started to think about drafting Johnny Rodz. As a point of reference. Different needs, etc.

Sure, seems an obvious pick to me. We are still in round 11 so it's still not time to think about jobbers. Need to flesh out midcard now.
