Bobby Eaton vs. Ricky Morton
In terms of MOVEZ, would it be fair to say that Eaton has more backbreaker variations alone than Morton has high spots period? I can't actually think of what offense Morton has other than punches and dropkicks.

Bobby Eaton vs. Ricky Morton
I like the way this vote has gone, starts off with a big face in peril segment (Eaton goes 12-1 up), but now Morton is making a comeback (12-6) ... but is it just a hope spot?

Bobby Eaton vs. Ricky Morton
Actually RnR have that Arn and Ole match at Starrcade 86 too.

Bobby Eaton vs. Ricky Morton
When something is this close it comes down to close margins: - Eaton's offense was just better than Morton's, it was much more innovative. - I have a natural predilection towards heels. - (That I've seen) MX have the Fantastics series; RnR only really have that Russians match plus the Morton-Flair stuff to go against that -- I'd take the Fantastics series. - Eaton had a very effective face run in 1989; someone will likely tell me Morton had an effective heel run in SMW, but I've not seen it yet. - Eaton worked well with at least 3 different partners The things going for Morton are: - Better promo - Did more outright carrying both with opponents and in the team with Gibson - Carried off the "mullet look" with greater aplomb Eaton shades it.

[1990-02-24-USWA-Memphis TV] Jerry Lawler and Nate
Lawler plays Joe Pesci to Nate's Spider. Casettes: remember them! Dave Brown really reminds me of someone but I can't place my finger on it. It might be Steve Martin, but specifically in the film Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Lawler goes to McDonalds then does he, not Burger King after all.

[1990-02-24-WWF-Superstars] Brother Love: Jake Roberts & Big Boss Man
I love that Brother Love says "Brother Million Dollar Man", totally ridiculous. His face is redder than a tomato here. I think Bossman comes across like a bully here, picking on Brother Love. Ventura is always totally in the right -- I thought it when I was a kid and I think it now. WWF morality was all messed up. I actually wanted DiBiase and Virgil to do a save here. This is absolutely dispicable! There should be fines and suspensions!

[1990-02-23-WWF-The Main Event] Ultimate Warrior vs Dino Bravo / Hulk Hogan & Ultimate Warrior interviews
Christ, really? Warrior vs. Bravo? Serious? Ok, just the finish. He hits the SIDE SLAM. Worst finisher ever imo, apart from Backlund's Atomic Drop. Shite. YES. Come on squash him Earthquake! Nooooo, nnoooo. Come on Earthquake. Get innnn. Big elbow. And again. Second rope splash ... Oh for fuck's sake. Fuck off Hogan. I fucking hate these babyface wankers.

[1990-02-23-WWF-The Main Event] Hulk Hogan vs Randy Savage
Pre-show segments were very cool. In the Wrestling Observers, Meltzer talks about this show as if it was going to be one of the most important nights in wrestling history when it was going to be Tyson. Douglas makes sense as a replacement timing wise. Classic Vince and Jesse opening. Awesome promo from Savage pre-match. Sherri was probably never better than she was with Savage. Douglas is not exactly Mr. Charisma is he. Gosh, this match has taken a long time to start. I've never really got the concept of an outside official. Why is one ever needed? And why are they almost always boxers? Sherri takes a full Randy Savage knee! Jesse straight in there with condemnation of Hogan for laying his hands on Sherri -- and rightfully so. Great transition. Douglas earning his money here evicting Sherri. Jesse rags on him. Pretty good Savage performance this only to see his finisher killed yet again.

[1990-02-18-NWA-Main Event] Ric Flair & Arn Anderson vs Rock & Roll Express
I'm sure I just spotted Joseph Stalin in the crowd. Some excellent facial hair in the crowd in general. That very fat boy is sitting in the front row ... hold on ... it could be a woman. I think it's a boy. Very hard to tell. Same t-shirt two nights in a row? Very long shine here for the RnRs and I don't think it was very interesting. I can't be sure, but this might be the first time I've ever heard Russell call a match -- he's much more towards the Vince / David Crockett end of the spectrum than I was expecting. Lots of bickering with Hayes, very enjoyable. Things pick up a bit for Morton's FIP sequence. Trememendous defensive inverted atomic drop by Arn to prevent the hot tag ... and that hot tag never comes. Unusual. Something didn't quite click here for me. Disappointing.

[1990-02-17-NWA-World Championship Wrestling] Ric Flair vs Brian Pillman / Lex Luger and the Four Horsemen
Dave Meltzer called this the MOTY so far, so let's see. I love the 1990 version of Flair's theme. I preferred this to the Eaton match, tells a more compelling story and we see a whole array of cool offense from Flair. This was a match to say "I am the world champion so don't fuck with me kid". But it still did a good job of making Pillman seem like he could at least hang with the champ. Ridiculo us slap from Woman. Amazing knee from Flair. Pretty hot finish. This was sort of an ultimate version of the Flair-Sam Houston match.

[1990-02-17-USWA-Memphis TV] Interview: Jerry Lawler
Take back my last comment about Lawler, this was pretty great. I still absolutely love Dave Brown's default scepticism about everything Lawler says. This does toe the line of being a bit "the lady doth protest too much". His line about "company champions" is just about the best argument he could have pursued here.

[1990-02-17-USWA-Memphis TV] Jerry Lawler & Soul Taker vs Junkyard Dog & King Cobra and reactions
JYD is pretty portly at this point. Dave Brown continues to be awesome. It's hard not to think that JYD couldn't have been utilised usefully in some non-wrestling capacity somehow. He is still a pretty great promo. I might not be in the right mood for Lawler this evening, but I'm finding some of this stuff from him a bit tedious.

[1990-02-17-WWF-Superstars] Brother Love: Ted DiBiase, Slick & Akeem
When I was a kid, my brother and I would watch Akeem promos over and over again just cracking up at his dancing. I still think it's one of the funniest gimmicks ever. Just something about the way he moves. Akeem is not a bad interview at all. His DiBiaseness turns up now. This is the classic Million Dollar Man costume in my eyes, with the black suit and the gold lapels. Brother Love is pretty funny as a suck up here.

[1990-02-17-WWF-Superstars] Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior promos
IN MY HEART, THE DARKNESS, THE GODS ... JACK TUNNEY I thought Hogan put Tunney over pretty strong in this promo, lol. Christ, Warrior now. Warrior makes a distinction between he and Hogan and the "normals". Or did he say "mortals"? Hard to say. This is fucking insane. "It was written ... that the Ultimate Warrior would come". Where was it written? This is going on far far far too long. LIKE A SLIME. This is impossible to follow. I'm probably more down in the camp who think the Warrior's stuff is just crap.

[1990-02-12-FMW-Battle Brave] Atsushi Onita vs Masanobu Kurisu (Barbed Wire)
lol at the Rab C Nesbitt reference. Thought Onita's selling as good here and they got over a good sense of danger. The crowd was really good too. Despite this being a deathmatch, they were still able to build to the superplex as a genuine high spot and the powerbombs in the finishing stretch. Kurisu's is another neat moustache to add to the 1990 GQ collection.
