  1. The section on the COVID outbreak in the latest Observer reads like the opening chapter of an apocalyptic novel. Not only has WWE not said a thing privately or publicly, none of the higher-ups ever contacted Renee to see how she was doing. This company's indifference to both public health and the well-being of its workers is truly sociopathic.
  2. The issue is that she lives in Mexico with Daga and was worried she wouldn't be able to return if she worked Slammiversary.
  3. After reading more about the situation, I don't think Tessa should bear the blame. By having her tape promos for an event taking place after her contract was set to expire, it seems like Impact was trying to put her in a situation where she'd appear unprofessional if she didn't show up so they could lowball her on an extension. And if they couldn't work something out, the heat would be on her for no-showing rather than on them for false advertising. With that said, when you've burned as many bridges as she has, you pretty much have no choice but to eat shit from whoever will agree to book you.
  4. Survivor Series will be an actual contest to survive until the end of the year.
  5. She has to be a head case to end all head cases if WWE took a pass on her and Impact fired her when she has a famous last name and actual talent to go along with it.
  6. Remember that report of a WWE employee who wasn't an in-ring performer testing positive back in March? I think we know who it was.
  7. Tenta looked like he was on the verge of blowing up, so there's actually a pretty good chance Kitao would have come out on top in a real fight. But saying that there was no way Tenta could beat him if it was real when he was just as hesitant to make a move made him look like a chump.
  8. Holy shit.
  9. If I'm not mistaken, Quack's wife was CHIKARA's main financial backer. When she found out about his extracurricular activities, she pulled the plug and filed for divorce, which is what led to the shutdown angle.
  10. Sasha took her ball and went home shortly after Mania, which leads me to believe that the broad contours of the story (Bayley and Sasha were pissed about dropping the tag belts) were basically accurate.
  11. I hope destroying his credibility as a journalist by turning himself into a glorified WWE PR flack was worth it for him.
  12. For those who aren't aware, Wolf Hawkfield is a character from the Virtua Fighter series of fighting games. They gave Jim Steele the gimmick to cross-promote the All Japan video game, which featured Hawkfield as a playable character.
  13. WWE knows just what the public needs in these trying times: a Charlotte title match. https://www.wwe.com/shows/raw/2020-06-22/article/asuka-charlotte-flair-preview
  14. What Sammy said was disgusting and he needs to apologize, but let's not lump being a dumbass edgelord on a podcast nobody listened to in with criminal assault and abuse of power.
  15. Undertaker said in the final episode of The Last Ride that he has no desire to return to the ring, which is probably for the best since the boneyard match is the highest note he can realistically go out on. I know he's sort of retired and then come back before, but he apparently had a moment of clarity after nearly breaking his neck in the Goldberg match. Still, it'd be cool if they did something at Survivor Series this year since it'll be 30 years to the day of his WWF debut.
  16. Thanks again for all the kind words, everyone. This project has been tremendously rewarding to be because it's helped me organize a lot of the thoughts jumbling around in my head in a more coherent fashion and caused me to pick up on some things I most likely wouldn't have noticed otherwise. I'm glad other people got something out of it as well.
  17. That was Charlotte's first husband (boyfriend at the time), who she accused of domestic abuse in her book. He sued them for defamation and said that there was dashcam footage of her using racist language toward police officers. The lawsuit was settled out of court.
  18. Herodes (the luchador, not the guy who posts here under that name) died on Sunday. He was 69. If you haven't seen it already, check out his 1984 hair match with Tony Salazar (uncle of the original Mistico).
  19. Thillseekers vs. Heavenly Bodies at Night of Legends is probably the most famous match in SMW history and is easy to find online.
  20. Any time there's a big social media pile-on, you can expect people with ulterior motives (whether it be individuals with an unrelated axe to grind or outright trolls) to get involved. That's why we have courts of law with rules of evidence to deal with things like this. I understand that the criminal justice system often gives victims of sexual abuse a raw deal, but trial by Twitter is no substitute.
  21. Cornette is a surprise. With all the enemies he's made, I figured any dirt on him would have come out a long time ago.
  22. I'm still waiting for people with real power in this industry to face consequences. In particular, one whose name rhymes with Bince BcBahon.
  23. Update: 127. Mitsuharu Misawa/Kenta Kobashi vs. Steve Williams/Johnny Ace (AJPW, 12/10/94) After further review and some serious consideration, I've decided that this is Doc's best match. It has deeper psychology than the 1990 brawl with Hansen and less downtime and overkill than his other acclaimed epics. It's also my pick for the best ever non-final (or more accurately, non-tournament-clinching) RWTL match. Unlike a lot of high-profile All Japan matches, there's no time-killing vibe in the opening minutes as they start out chippy with slapping, hair pulling, and two near pull-apart brawls. The bulk of the match is Misawa-in-peril, which works to the match's benefit because Kobashi refuses to allow Doc and Ace to simply sit in holds. Had Kobashi been the one being worked over, Misawa likely would have sat back and waited for the tag. Kobashi running in to break up submissions forced the Americans to really ramp up the aggression, and they obliged with some brutal double-team offense. In an ominous harbinger of the future, the crowd largely sits on their hands until the head drops start. The finishing run is the kind of controlled chaos this crew always excelled at delivering. Kobashi taking out Doc with a tiger suplex at the end was fitting payback for the release German he delivered to Kobashi earlier in the match. ****1/2
