  1. I basically agree with all the criticisms of Dolph and Seth's work, but you can't ignore the elephant in the room. Cody Rhodes and Jon Moxley have both shown that it's impossible to fairly judge someone based on their work in WWE.
  2. Why do you write Impact in all caps except for the I?
  3. The best joke I've heard about tonight's episode is that the Samoan Summit should be an intervention for Jimmy Uso.
  4. I hoped and expected KENTA would be a quasi-Shibata, and that's exactly what he's been.
  5. What was Roman's last great straight wrestling match without a bunch of bells and whistles? Honestly, he and Rollins can both fuck off to Hollywood for all I care. They're damaged beyond repair in WWE.
  6. I suspect that Naito is really starting to break down physically. The match with Moxley reminded me of a Minoru Suzuki match in the liberal use of shortcuts to fill time.
  7. It's pretty clear at this point that having Lance Archer and Bad Luck Fale in the same block was a mistake. I mean, there's no way to make Fale look good, but he looks like an even bigger piece of shit when Archer is on the same card in the same role but light-years better in every way. Then again, I don't think anybody expected Archer to step up the way he did, so I guess hindsight is 20/20. KENTA/Okada was basically KENTA plugged into the Okada big match formula. It started out slow but picked up about ten minutes in and got really good by the end. I think the two have a better match in them.
  8. I was actually forbidden from watching wrestling as a kid, so my only real exposure to wrestling on TV prior to Raw and Nitro was occasional glimpses of All American Wrestling on USA after Cartoon Express.
  9. AJ Styles is a flat-earther too. Well, he doesn't believe in a flat earth per se, he just thinks there are some things about the "official" story that don't add up. He's just asking questions.
  10. NintendoLogic replied to Woof's topic in WWE
You all need to watch WALTER vs. Trent Seven. I had kind of given up on WALTER in NXT after his matches with Pete Dunne, which were far too evenly worked. But he was allowed to be the dominant force he was meant to be against Seven. Great hard-hitting meat-and-potatoes wrestling.
  11. I thought Moxley/Shingo was Mox's best match in New Japan so far. You can't go wrong with brawling combined with submission wrestling, and Mox's leg work was pretty fantastic. I especially appreciated how it led to the finish and wasn't just filler like in the Juice match. My favorite spot was Shingo barely beating the count only to immediately eat a knee trembler. I would've liked it more if that had led directly to the finish, but I guess they can't help themselves with the do-si-do finishing runs. Regardless, Mox is well on his way to becoming someone I can unreservedly get behind. He just needs to tone down the 90s edgelord aspects of his character and remove the world's slowest tope from his repertoire.
  12. When some WCW wrestlers appeared on Politically Incorrect, Bill Maher was completely incredulous that chair shots actually hurt. Just as there's a surprising number of people who think wrestling is at least somewhat real (or at least used to be), there's a significant number of people who think that wrestling being fake means that everything about it must be fake. After all, what kind of complete idiot would allow someone to hit them for real in a fake fight?
  13. As you all know, I've been relatively bullish on Seth's potential to be a company building block despite not really caring for his in-ring work. But that image of him standing forlornly on the outside during the DX group hug is the final nail in the coffin for him being taken seriously as a top guy. There's no way he can recover from that.
  14. They barely cracked 3 million viewers with the most loaded lineup since Raw 25. And there was actually a drop from the second hour to the third despite saving Austin, Hogan, and Flair until the end. All things considered, the rating has to be seen as a disaster.
  15. https://variety.com/2019/tv/opinion/vince-mcmahon-wwe-woes-1203273548/ Meltzer has frequently written about how WWE executives have managed to snow investors with excuses and fake metrics. An article like this appearing in a major trade publication, especially one that ran a Vince McMahon puff piece two months ago, indicates that the jig may be up.
  16. @Jetlag Let me know if you've already seen it and I'll come up with something else.
  17. To be honest, I can't get over how shitty Angelico's ring gear is. I can't think of a single non-masked wrestler who looks good in a full body suit.
  18. That may be the case now, but look at the three month period after Mania. Feuding with Corbin for months on end right after your coronation would kill anybody out the gate. It doesn't matter if it's Seth, Roman, or Bruno Sammartino. Also, I think Rollins/Lesnar in a straight singles match has serious potential. Since Suplex City became a thing, Brock's best matches have been against smaller opponents who can fly around and bump big. That's Seth to a T. It should be at least as good as Balor/Lesnar. And Lord knows nobody in their right mind wants to see yet another installment of Reigns/Lesnar. They knocked it out of the park in their first meeting, but saying they experienced diminishing returns would be a gross understatement. I would also add that I get the impression Roman has largely checked out mentally and will be joining Dwayne in Hollywood once his contract is up.
  19. I still find Jay White kind of dull in the ring, but I respect his commitment to being a completely unlikable scumbag and not doing anything cool or entertaining.
  20. It makes absolutely zero difference who the top face is when the top heels are Shane McMahon and Baron Corbin.
  21. KENTA/Tanahashi had plenty of good stiff offense, told a strong story, and never felt overly choreographed or cooperative. It wouldn't be a MOTY most years, but that's enough to put it right near the top in 2019. Plus, KENTA kicking Tanahashi in the back of the head during his air guitar routine was my favorite thing to happen in a wrestling ring this year.
  22. For what it's worth, the IIconics were apparently supposed to feud with the Bella Twins, but Nikki had to retire and WWE clearly had no Plan B beyond putting the tag belts on ice.
  23. Really enjoyable show overall. You know, if you only watched the PPVs, you'd probably think WWE was pretty good right now.
  24. Not even kendo sticks can make the audience care about this match.
