  1. I really hate the idea that liking one kind of wrestling is more evolved than liking another. It's all equally stupid, just in different ways.
  2. The way babyfaces react to screwjob finishes is worse than the finishes themselves. In the past, babyfaces who got screwed over would get their heat back by kicking the heel's ass after the match or at least chasing him back to the dressing room. Nowadays, they just sit there dejectedly while the heel walks away triumphantly.
  3. I kind of like that the Singh Brothers are there primarily to get dropped on their heads by Orton.
  4. According to WWE's official SEC filings, average attendance at North American events was 6300 in 2010 and 5800 last year. That's a decline of 8 percent. I got the 10 percent figure from looking at 2009, when average attendance was 6500. You have a history of cherry-picking numbers from big shows while ignoring broader trends. You also have a history of insisting that various metrics are flat when they're actually in decline. WWE isn't in any kind of imminent danger, but there are definitely red flags that need to be addressed before they spiral out of control. Every study I've seen of WWE's fanbase indicates that the exact opposite is true. Those studies are a few years old, though, so it's possible there's been a shift in recent years. If there was such a shift, I would expect it to be reflected in higher ad rates for Raw and Smackdown. To my knowledge, that hasn't happened.
  5. I think all the women were better in NXT, even if they were less experienced. There was more emphasis on storytelling and less on sloppy athletic spots.
  6. For my money, Miz vs. Dolph at Backlash blows any of the Charlotte/Sasha matches out of the water. Overall, I'd say that Charlotte in NXT was probably better than Miz at any point in his career, but current Miz is better than Charlotte on the main roster.
  7. TV rights fees provide more revenue than any other aspect of WWE's business. That's why ratings matter. Average attendance at North American events is down more than 10% from 2010. And this past month, they couldn't sell out a PPV in Chicago. So you probably shouldn't be hanging your hat on attendance if you're a WWE apologist.
  8. The only person I've ever heard refer to those matches by those terms is jdw. I believe he's a Real Madrid fan, so that's where he got it from.
  9. I thought I had lost my capacity to be shocked after the last two years, but I am flabbergasted that the Rock is being treated as a serious presidential candidate. I just can't buy into the notion of taking a Stone Cold Stunner being a qualification for elected office.
  10. The best part was Dave flipping out over the idea that Bayley had time to see Wonder Woman.
  11. I like how three of these are for the same guy.
  12. NintendoLogic replied to ...TG's topic in WWE
On the other hand, you have Sting becoming a career top guy simply by taking the world champion to a time limit draw. Bob Backlund is also arguably an example of the title making the wrestler.
  13. I was thinking Kerry as well. He had always been on the WWF's radar, and he was still an acceptable worker at that point. He almost certainly would have self-destructed even quicker as a result, but I'm thinking in terms of what the WWF likely would have done, not what would have been best for them with the benefit of hindsight.
  14. I just received the following email: Hi, This is to inform you that your subscription with National Wrestling Alliance has ended. Your recurring payment has stopped because National Wrestling Alliance no longer offers this specific subscription. Check out their website on National Wrestling Alliance in order to understand how to get access to their premium content. -- Thanks, The Cleeng Team I can still watch videos for the time being, so we'll see.
  15. If I'm not mistaken, DiBiase started with the WWF at the end of May. How about scrapping the Million Dollar Man gimmick, bringing him in as a babyface, and pushing him to the top right away? Having a long-term heel champion would have been a bad idea. One of the WWF's key advantages was that its world champion was booked much stronger than the NWA champion. Having a champ who constantly retained in screwjob fashion would have undercut that.
  16. Glad I'm not the only one who loved this match. Maybe it's because I went in with subterranean expectations, but it overdelivered in a big way. It would've been a MOTYC if Jinder's arm work had been more interesting.
  17. NintendoLogic replied to ...TG's topic in WWE
I don't think it's that big a problem in this case. Smackdown is loaded with babyface challengers, so Mahal can spend some time running through them while they figure things out. You can make the comparison to JBL, but there's a big difference in that I don't see a Cena waiting in the wings. The closest would probably be Nakamura.
  18. NintendoLogic replied to ...TG's topic in WWE
Sooo....that match was actually pretty fucking awesome. Is Jinder really that good or is Bray Wyatt that bad?
  19. NintendoLogic replied to Coffey's topic in Pro Wrestling
The funny thing is that the biggest draw on the indies right now is Cody Rhodes.
  20. NintendoLogic replied to Coffey's topic in Pro Wrestling
People have been saying this about indy wrestling for more than a decade. By that definition, current WWE is more indy than most actual indies.
  21. Trump called James Comey a "showboat" and a "grandstander" as part of his rationale for firing him. We've reached the point where the President of the United States is explaining his actions by quoting Randy Savage promos.
  22. Troy Aikman sustained a concussion in the NFC championship game in 1994 and started in the Super Bowl the next week.
  23. NintendoLogic replied to stro's topic in The Microscope
To me at least, there's a distinction between stipulation matches and gimmick matches. Cage matches in general feel like more violent versions of a standard wrestling match. It's not a theory I've rigorously developed, though.
  24. NintendoLogic replied to stro's topic in The Microscope
Depending on how loosely one defines gimmick match, the cage match with Matt Hardy at Unforgiven is really good. And I haven't seen the Del Rio match at WM27 since it happened, but I remember thinking at the time that it was the best match on the show.
