2014 Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame thread
If I can nitpick, I would say that classifying 2014 TNA as a major promotion is a bit of a stretch.

Most likely the 4/13/03 GHC match.

Shawn Michaels
So Shawn needed to be carried by superworkers like Sid and Kevin Nash? The only great Diesel match with Shawn was a gimmick match, and I don't think any of the Sid matches were any good. Some had great atmosphere, but as a complete package they weren't worth much. I don't really consider no-DQ matches without any other special stipulation to be gimmick matches. They're much closer to a standard wrestling match than they are to, say, a ladder match. And Shawn and Diesel also had the Kliq tag from Action Zone, which is the best tag match in WWE history. My recollection is that he wasn't so much actively bad for the first few years of his comeback as he was lazy and formulaic. Starting in 2007, he was a lot better about turning it on for the big matches.

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 3
Everyone knows that Guile's four fierce combo is the king of old-school SF2 combos. Also, I will play Parv for any amount of money in ST, A2, A3, 3S, CvS2, MvC2, and UMvC3.

Vader
I agree with this. The fact that he developed a style that worked in pretty much any setting is a strong point in his favor.

It seems to me that if you want to run a Russian heel angle without offending Russians, your options are rather limited.

Dave Meltzer stuff
It's not quite the same, but I recall Mike Tenay on commentary in WCW talking about how even though Santo was the bigger star in La Pareja Atomica, Gory Guerrero was considered the better wrestler.

2014 Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame thread
Pretty much all women's wrestling was booked through Moolah's office, and all the women were Moolah trainees who worked the same hair-mare/catfight style. Women's wrestling in America has always had a seedy side, but women like Mildred Burke were legit draws and main eventers. Under Moolah, it became a sideshow on par with midget wrestling.

You know you've watched too much wrestling when ...
I once gave my cat a tombstone piledriver.

2014 Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame thread
What exactly does Moolah have going for her? Even disregarding all the seedy aspects of her career, she couldn't work, didn't draw, and set women's wrestling in America back decades during her time on top. She was good at playing politics, but that's not one of the selection criteria. As for Invader, I recall Dave saying he'd get lynched if he ever put him on the ballot.

Current WWE
Personally, I thought all the comedy was cringeworthy and reminiscent of 2006 DX. I'm half-expecting them to come out with a "Seth Loves Cocks" t-shirt.

Ban everyone who doesn't know the difference between it's and its.

7 for 7: A project within a project
The Veidor/Davies postmatch is absolutely hilarious. "HERE'S YOUR BELT!" Hahahaha.

Jumbo Tsuruta
I can certainly see the argument that Fujinami was better in the 80s than Jumbo. I wouldn't necessarily agree with it, but I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand either. Without thinking about it too hard, I'm inclined to say that Fujinami had a better first half of the decade while Jumbo had a better second half.

Atsushi Onita
The hardcore/deathmatch style. The "crazy shit" in those "classic brawls" makes me physically ill. I honestly have no idea how anyone could find people being mutilated to that degree entertaining. And the All Japan style absolutely took a tremendous physical toll, but if you want to compare the two styles in terms of physical destruction/drug addiction/early death, the arrow's pointing strongly in the other direction.

7 for 7: A project within a project
Part of me wants to see you review the Manami Toyota vs. Kyoko Inoue broadway, but I'm not enough of a sadist to actually nominate it myself.
-
Atsushi Onita
In addition to being thoroughly morally and aesthetically repugnant in its own right, the style Onita pioneered had the effect of killing the classic brawling style. As the FMW style trickled down to places like ECW and the joshi promotions, brawls turned into stunt shows centered around tables and chairs and barbed wire and thumbtacks. These days, brawling is mostly dead, but the stunt spots remain.

Atsushi Onita
I think the argument could be made that Onita has done more damage to professional wrestling than anyone not named Russo or Bischoff.

[SPLIT TOPIC] Today's wrestling vs wrestling from the past (From Lawler GWE thread)
You're not remembering correctly. rzombie1988 said that European fans only liked Devitt because he was Irish and funny on Twitter. rovert replied that Devitt is well respected within the industry. This led to goodhelmet jumping down his throat and demanding to know what he liked about him even though he (rovert) never said that he personally was a fan.

[SPLIT TOPIC] Today's wrestling vs wrestling from the past (From Lawler GWE thread)
For those of you who don't know what rovert is talking about, here's the Davey Richards gif: Actually, upon further review, it looks like Eddie Edwards is more at fault there.

Dave Meltzer stuff
In fairness, that's not quite what Dave was talking about. He was talking about when guys eat a finisher, kick out at one, and then immediately eat a second finisher which puts them down for good. Like I said, I'm not in love with it, but it's fine when done properly.

[1995-06-09-AJPW-Super Power Series] Mitsuharu Misawa & Kenta Kobashi vs Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue
It wasn't an eyepoke. It was a blow to his orbital bone. As legal as a headlock but still a dick move. For what it's worth, my favorite Taue moment from this match (and his career, for that matter) is when he chokeslammed Misawa onto Kobashi's injured leg. I can't even begin to describe how hard I marked out the first time I saw that.
