  1. By my count, there are 103 bolded matches. Is that correct?
  2. Fuck that, Taue is tier 2 for sure. Let me put it this way: if Misawa/Kawada/Kobashi are Jordan/Magic/Bird (feel free to assign the roles however you like), then Taue is Scottie Pippen. Also, El Hijo del Santo belongs in the first tier. I'd say he has as strong a case for GOAT as any luchador.
  3. I thought HHH's promo was pretty good. He sounded like someone who genuinely thought he was doing the right thing while still being kind of a dick. It was about five minutes too long, but that's par for the course when HHH is involved.
  4. The two guys who always personified the second tier to me are Vader and Ricky Steamboat.
  5. So what's the over/under on the length of the inevitable HHH promo to open Raw tomorrow?
  6. So what happened? Did HHH Pedigree Bryan so Orton could cash in?
  7. Only if you want to be subjected to six months of inspirational video packages to hype his eventual return. Trust me, the cure is worse than the disease.
  8. The funny thing about Tenryu is that objectively speaking, he's a terrible wrestler. He's not particularly known for his athleticism or matwork, and he can't even execute his own finisher properly. But he brings so many intangibles to the table that he manages to overcome all that. Like, I hate strike exchanges and fighting spirit no-selling more than just about anything, but Tenryu somehow manages to make them compelling. With that said, I view him as more of an all-time top 20 guy than a serious GOAT contender. I just find him somewhat limited in singles matches unless he's in there with a superworker like Jumbo. (On that note, I don't know what to make of the fact that his best post-1989 singles match was with Keiji Mutoh of all people.) Even if you're higher on Tenryu's singles work than I am, I think most would agree that a tag setting is where he really shines.
  9. If Serena can get fired for not living her gimmick, shouldn't Del Rio have to drop the title for getting roughed up in a fight?
  10. I made a thread along these lines a while back. http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?show...=15403&st=0 For me, ten matches is too hard. Also, you have to be cognizant of card placement. Sticking ten main events on a single card seems like overkill. Anyway, here's what my card would look like right now. Maybe I'll add some later. Bret/Owen, WM10 Eddy/Rey, Halloween Havoc Sting/Vader, Starrcade Luger/Windham vs. Arn/Tully, Clash I Hokuto/Kandori, Dreamslam Hansen/Kobashi, 7/29/93 Misawa/Kawada, 6/3/94
  11. Seems to me that Jeff Jarrett belongs in the conversation. EDIT: Never mind, I'm an idiot.

  13. I'll make a point to watch at least all the bolded matches. Kobashi/Takayama from 2004 is my working #1 going in with Misawa/Akiyama from 2000 right behind.
  14. It's not that there were no great matches after this point. it's just that I think this is the match that makes it clear that the style's more degenerate aspects had moved to the forefront and there was no turning back.
  15. I'd say this match marks the point where King's Road jumped the shark. I really like the first fifteen minutes or so, but then Kawada says "Fuck it, I'm just going to drop Misawa on his head a bunch" and things go downhill in a hurry.
  16. Cena has never handled this issue well, even when he should expect it coming. See this Wade Keller editorial, for example. Clearly, he knows he has to say he's cool with homosexuality publicly, but one gets vibes that he's not altogether comfortable with the idea. This is what I was trying to get at. You'd think that someone with a close family member who was gay wouldn't be so obtuse on the issue.
  17. I'm sorry, it drives me crazy when peopple call this an I Quit match. It's better than an I Quit match precisely because it doesn't have the bullshit with the microphone to drag it down. Anyway, this is probably my most watched match of all time. The things that make it great have been pretty well covered, so I'll just talk about how similar it is to Hokuto/Kandori. They both feature brawling mixed with submission wrestling, they both have storylines centered around blood loss, they even both have crappy crowd brawling segments. I don't think it's anything more than a coincidence, but it's a pretty remarkable one.
  18. I had no idea Cena had a gay brother.
  19. That something's name was Terrell Davis.
  20. OK, admit it. Who watched the first episode? I did, and the main takeaway for me was that Jane Geddes is basically a real-life Big Johnny.
  21. The 4/26/80 match is the one where Martel gets his leg worked over, right? I thought that was the one that got all the praise.
  22. I remember HHH/Punk being a good hate-filled brawl before the overbooking kicked in. I have no real desire to revisit it to see if it holds up, though. Add the walkout to the list of HHH booking sins. They made the entire roster except for the tippy-top babyfaces look like whining pussies to get HHH over as a babyface authority figure.
  23. I like DVDVR, but I can see it not having much to offer if you don't follow current US wrestling and aren't participating in the 80s Project. On the one hand, discussion there tends toward the more superficial and less introspective, which doesn't do it for me when I like to dig deeper. On the other hand, a lot of the discussion here isn't relevant at all to me or my interests, so it's nice to have a place where I can discuss Raw with people who (mostly) aren't dipshits. In any event, I think we can all agree that PWO and DVDVR are both far superior to the F4W board. In fact, as far as wrestling message boards that require a paid subscription go, I'm not sure F4W compares favorably to the Punchsport Pagoda at Something Awful. Incidentally, I actually discovered this board through SA.
