  1. My mom watched CWF in the 1970s and once took her German cousin to a show headlined by a Dusty Rhodes/Ivan Koloff bloodbath. Needless to say, it was quite the culture shock for him.
  2. It is exceedingly rare for business to immediately fall off a cliff due to bad booking. Even the Fingerpoke of Doom was followed by Superbrawl IX, which did the third-highest buyrate in WCW history. Also, most if not all of the tickets for those events were sold prior to Mania.
  3. WWE is off the table since there's no way she would be able to pass a wellness test. Not only has her body undergone a vast transformation in recent months, her voice has gotten significantly deeper as well.
  4. There's an old saying that a joke is like a frog-you can dissect it, but it dies in the process. Perhaps the same is true of wrestling matches.
  5. Who said anything about killing the business? Nobody in this thread has said that guys like Komander can't get over or draw money, just that it isn't what they prefer to watch as fans. El-P is arguing with ghosts again.
  6. Next year. This is dumb. Worked shoots on social media are always dumb, especially for something like Becky/Trish that pretty much sells itself.
  7. There's a distinction in my mind between fixed fights and worked ones, although I recognize the lines are frequently blurred in shoot and shoot-style promotions. To me, a work entails not just a predetermined outcome but cooperation between the combatants for entertainment purposes. I haven't read Snowden's book, but all the fixed fights in Pancrase I know about were for business rather than entertainment. Case in point, Shamrock lost the King of Pancrase title to Suzuki right before the Severn fight because the company didn't want to risk their champion losing to a fighter from a rival organization. By the way, Snowden's screen name at DVDVR was evilclown. He also posted here under that name before he got banned. For what I don't know, but I recall him once posting that the Rollins/Ambrose HIAC match with the Bray Wyatt hologram was so self-evidently awesome that anyone who didn't like it wasn't really a wrestling fan.
  8. They were. Some of the fights were fixed and others had planned spots, but I'm not aware of any that were pure works.
  9. TK had previously said that the wrestling side of AEW was profitable and investments in the video game division had put the company in the red. We know from history what kinds of cost-cutting measures wrestling companies perform when they're in financial trouble (cutting/lowballing talent, running smaller venues, going live less often). AEW hasn't done any of that. If anything, they've done the opposite.
  10. It's amazing how many of you seem to think Dave just unthinkingly regurgitates whatever one of his sources tells him without doing any kind of due diligence. And I thought we all agreed not to post that MSW clown here. Setting that aside, why would people be skeptical of Punk pulling a power play when he already delivered an unscripted receipt on live TV? Of course, it could simply be a case of Dax going into business for himself. FTR have an obvious vested interest in building anticipation for a Punk/Elite feud since it would put them right in the middle of the hottest angle in years. As for the Elite, it would be understandable if they didn't trust Punk with their bodies. But if it was just a case of putting personal feelings over business, that would be disappointing.
  11. Ted Turner has Lewy body dementia, so you can pretty much rule him out.
  12. What about Omega? He spent nearly a year on the shelf after dropping the AEW title, and he's worked almost exclusively in trios matches since returning. Realistically speaking, they're both probably on borrowed time as top workers.
  13. I suppose next you're going to tell me that the first line of Sheamus' old theme isn't really "It's a shameful thing, lobster head."
  14. WWE sold 30k tickets for Clash at the Castle in the pre-sale and 10k more in the first day of sales to the general public. And London is a much more convenient travel destination than Cardiff for fans in UK and the mainland. It's conceivable AEW could do 40-50k paid before a single match is announced.
  15. The Wembley show is two weeks after the G1 finals. Okada will likely be too banged-up at that point for a showcase singles match (as will Danielson if he works the tournament). I agree that Punk is available, he and FTR should work a trios match-just not against the Elite. That's a matchup that could sell a PPV by itself if built up properly, so save that for later when they might need it more.
  16. The producers seem to make a concerted effort to end the episodes with the darkest subject matter (Grizz, Benoit, Pillman) on a somewhat hopeful note. I don't know if that's possible with Zumhofe unless his daughter ended up winning the lottery or something similar.
  17. This is AAA we're talking about, so they'll likely continue promoting the match even if they know full well it isn't going to happen. Or if they really wanted to, they could probably pay to get the guy licensed. My understanding is that money talks above all else in Mexico and commissions will look the other way if they receive the proper "respect" from a promoter.
  18. He was also a supporter of Ulster loyalism. He opposed the IRA because he thought nationalism had no place in left-wing politics. Being so anarchist that you become a monarchist is certainly a choice.
  19. We're being sealioned, folks.
  20. Looks like those of you who have been wanting the company to do more interpromotional stuff are about to get your wish.
  21. Even setting aside WWE's track record, the chances of this being an honest mistake are so slim as to be essentially zero. Stock footage used in a for-profit broadcast has to be licensed so the creator can receive royalties. And licensed footage usually contains detailed descriptions of the subject matter and location. It is nigh inconceivable that someone in WWE came across Auschwitz footage that was not clearly and unambiguously labeled as such.
  22. You really think it's a good idea to pick a fight with the Auschwitz Memorial over whether a use of Auschwitz imagery is appropriate? You might want to sit this one out, chief.
  23. Pro-Taylor/anti-Vickie is the correct quadrant to be in.
  24. Isn't she more of a Manami Toyota fan?
  25. Yeah, when I did a Google image search for "prison yard," I didn't see anything that looked like a concentration camp. As a general rule, I believe that you should never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity. But when WWE keeps making "innocent mistakes" on the same issue (a few weeks ago, they got in hot water over Gunther having a character rating of 88 in WWE2K3), I have to wonder if there are groypers in the company who like to sneak in as many far-right Easter eggs as they can get away with.
