If you want to do a triple threat match, that's how you do it. No cute tower of doom spots, just three big beefy dudes beating the crap out of each other.

Ronda did zilch until the end and still picked up the win. Nice work if you can get it.

That was a thousand times better than it had any right to be. Brock might actually be the GOAT.

By the way, I wonder what Shane is thinking right now. He wanted to purchase UFC in 2004, when the company could have been gotten for a song. Now they're taking over the family business he had figured was his by birthright.

I'm always struck by how short Aja is when she poses for pictures with other female wrestlers. They always seem to have at least a couple of inches on her.

WrestleMania 39
Charlotte/Rhea did nothing for me live because I was struggling to keep my eyes open by that point and just wanted the match to end (I ended up calling it a night once it did). When I woke up today and saw the rave reviews it was getting, I decided to watch it again with a fresh set of eyes. I thought it was a good physical match with plenty of cool moments (I especially dug the repeated struggle over the figure-four), but it never connected with me on a deeper level because there was no real hook beyond the two of them clobbering each other. Not to mention all the tired WWE big match tropes (mid-match trash talk, shocked face after a kickout) that will never not annoy me. By the way, it looked like Rhea was wearing an Apple Watch under her wrist tape, which I found puzzling. Did she have somewhere else she needed to be? The tag title match, on the other hand, blew me away. On initial viewing, I'd say it was probably the best American tag match of the century so far. The fact that the ref pretty much stopped enforcing the legal man rules about halfway through made it feel like a high-end Japanese tag match. In particular, the extended 2-on-1 beatdowns from the Usos felt Holy Demon Army-esque. And Sami's selling is always a treat. I could've done without all the posing and monologuing, though. Sami finishing Jey off with a barrage of helluva kicks is one of the few melodramatic WWE set pieces that I felt achieved what it set out to. MOTN and probably my MOTY to this point. I hope Sami/KO have an extended run with the belts because they have the potential to deliver an all-time great reign. Sami is the best FIP in the business right now, and Owens is a tremendous hot tag. As my comments in the first paragraph indicated, these marathon PPVs are a struggle. With my current work/sleep schedule, staying up until midnight or later to watch a wrestling event is too much for me. I'll try to make it to the end tonight because I expect Roman/Cody to be truly special and want to experience it as it happens. In the future, though, I think I'll stick to cherry-picking after the fact.

AEW TV 3/29 - 4/1
The thing about Kingston is that he's a hothead who allows his emotions to sabotage him. It would make no sense for someone like that to win all or even most of the time. He needs some character progression if he's to become a winner. You could look to Sami Zayn and Bayley in NXT for inspiration. Their characters evolved significantly over the course of their championship journeys without losing the essence of who they were. On a somewhat related note, Mark Briscoe probably needs to drop the redneck kung fu or at least tone it down if he's to be a serious singles act. Even so, the ROH TV title match was my favorite match from Supercard of Honor with Joe in particular looking like a million bucks. I was pretty shocked by the lack of heat during the match, though. By the way, Madison Rayne being one of the judges for the Pure title match was LOL.

Is the empire crumbling before our eyes?
It looks like Jericho is backtracking from seeing to it that Punk would never be back in AEW. That leads me to believe that Punk's return is largely a foregone conclusion and it's just a matter of working out the details.

I, for one, am shocked that a Liberty University graduate would have retrograde views on gender identity. Georgia just passed a law banning gender-affirming care for minors. If anything, the voters would probably give him a promotion. If having a bigoted old crank as a father was damaging to a wrestler's career prospects in WWE, Charlotte wouldn't be a zillion-time women's champion. For what it's worth, the announcement for the 2005 Diva Search explicitly stated that applicants had to be born female.

WrestleMania 39
I expected Charlotte/Rhea to main event the first night since they traditionally give one of the main event slots to the women. I'm thinking maybe Rhea is going over and Charlotte doesn't want to be in the main event if she's doing the job.

Is the empire crumbling before our eyes?
Brian Last on Twitter posted the part of the AEW Talent Playbook that asks talent not to comment on their health condition without clearing it with the company beforehand. It could be that Dave was told about Punk not being medically cleared off the record and he didn't want to share a story that would make Punk look much worse without mitigating information he wasn't at liberty to share. He did seem to allude to it in his message board post when he wrote "There are a lot of nice things I can say about him, and you can absolutely argue his position on Moxley was correct."

Is the empire crumbling before our eyes?
If Omega, the Bucks, Jericho, and Moxley are all on the anti-Punk side, that kind of makes bringing him back a hard sell.

Is the empire crumbling before our eyes?
Do I have this right? Did AEW really book someone not under contract against someone not medically cleared to wrestle in the main event of a PPV? If so, that is beyond insane.

Is Impact* the best wrestling promotion in history? *(Now TNA again, 2024)
On a somewhat related note, I've been able to catch up on recent Impact goings-on through clips that have shown up in my YouTube feed. I see that Taylor Wilde is back, and she's a witch now because of course she is. From what I can tell, just about every woman in the company who isn't a generic mean girl has some kind of connection with the occult. Enough already. Congress needs to step in and set limits on how many spooky lore wrestlers every company is allowed to have.
