PTB Episode 268: WrestleMania X-7
Editing the upcoming Titans St Louis Wrestling special (cheap plug...but watch out for it Tuesday fans!) actually wasn't that bad. I had three days off, so I could take my time with it. Still, probably took about 8hrs total to edit over three days.

Yeah, Honky was already a Ferris creation but I don't know of any foootage of him using the gimmick prior to his WWF debut. Hercules was Hercules in Mid South, long before he hit the WWF. Koko Ware and George Steele weren't really that different from their pre-Rock N Wrestling personas. Ferris was doing the Honky gimmick ("Honky Tonk Wayne") in Stampede when I first started watching in the summer of 86. Can't find any Stampede footage online, but here is footage of him in All-Star Wrestling in Vancouver from probably around the same time:

Two different Mr. Clean/Mr. Kleen wrestlers from the 60s (not to be confused with Mr. Clean, aka the Grand Wizard, aka Ernie Roth). Also pictured in the second photo, Handy Andy, aka "Mini-Kleen". The Mr. Kleen in the second photo is named Ed Albers, and according to him, "There must have been 50..." guys working Mr. Clean gimmicks in the 60s.

As far as I understand it part of the change was due to the fact that, around 1984 and the beginning of the Hogan-era, Vince essentially purged MSG of all the long-time front row fans who had been permanent ticket holders and made sure their seats were taken by yuppies and other young people in order to project the image on TV that the WWF was now "cool". That is not to say the long-time fans were banned from shows, but they were essentially "swept under the rug" in an effort to yuppify the fan base. But the main factor in the vibe change was that a lot of the long-time fans were simply turned off by the new WWF and slowly faded away, while young kids and their parents replaced them.

What? I'm a big fan of DeNucci and I think this is a great action shot.

There is a dispute with his age. His birthdate was listed as 1936 in another place I looked. Either way, Dominic Motherfucking DeNucci. I posted a picture of Dominic from, I'm assuming, the last few years here: http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?showtopic=21025 Judge for yourself. (may as well listen to the show too if you haven't already )

Jay Strongbow's leg in 79, which was basically a reprise of the Wahoo angle. Also led to perhaps the best matches of Strongbow's career.

Ken Patera
I wrote down the same Patera quote when watching the match last night. Fantastic match. Loved the heated ending and post-match brawl. And what's this? The TDM between the two from later in the year is even better? Oh yeah.

Some of the MSG refs in the 79-83 footage we are watching for Titans are hands down amongst the worst ever. As in totally clueless to the business bad.

WWF Popularity in the UK in early 90s
Only thing I can add to this is when I visited Ireland and the UK in 2000 I was shocked to discover, while in an HMV in Dublin, that you could BUY copies of late-80s/early-90s WWF PPVs and CHV's, whereas in Canada you could only RENT these videos and would never find them for sale in any stores.

Longest time on wrestling TV?
First televised MSG show was June 30, 1973 on HBO. Through the 70s only certain MSG shows were televised though. 3 in 73, 3 in 74, 8 in 75, 7 in 76, 8 in 77, 6 in 78, and 9 in 79. Also, I think only 4 or 5 matches per show were televised. I think a random mid-60s MSG show was televised in the NY area.

Big thanks to James and Martin for joining me on this show. I had a great time guys. Join us as we take a slight detour from the usual WWF journey to look at Portland Wrestling from the late-70s! Parv graciously steps aside as Kelly takes the hosting seat for the first of a proposed series of periodic specials documenting wrestling even more obscure than Backlund-era WWF. For this episode Kelly is joined by Titans co-founder James and rising star Martin (Superstar Sleeze) to look at wild and crazy action from the Pacific Northwest. http://placetobenation.com/titans-of-wrest...land-wrestling/ On the docket tonight: 4/7/79 PLAYBOY BUDDY ROSE, ED WISKOWSKI, ROWDY RODDY PIPER, KILLER TIM BROOKS vs ADRIAN ADONIS, RON STARR, GEORGE WELLS, HECTOR GUERRERO 8/31/79 PLAYBOY BUDDY ROSE vs ADRIAN ADONIS 9/8/79 PLAYBOY BUDDY ROSE vs ADRIAN ADONIS 5/12/79 ROWDY RODDY PIPER vs PLAYBOY BUDDY ROSE 5/19/79 ROWDY RODDY PIPER vs PLAYBOY BUDDY ROSE LUMBERJACK MATCH 1/12/80 HARLEY RACE vs RICK MARTEL NWA TITLE MATCH 12/1/79 ROWDY RODDY PIPER, STAN "THE MAN" STASIAK vs THE SHEEPHERDERS / KILT BURNING ANGLE Also on tonight's show: -Martin's history as a wrestling fan, featuring his Stan Stasiak-hating father -A brief look at the history of Portland Wrestling -Don Owen: Great promoter; terrible announcer -Numerous jokes at the expense of elderly wrestling fans -Come visit Sandy Barr's Flea Market! -Opinions on Buddy Rose, Roddy Piper, Harley Race, Rick Martel, Dutch Savage, Ed (Col DeBeers) Wiskowski, Stan Stasiak, and others - Kool-Aid Man pulls a Shockmaster
