Mr. McMahon on Netflix
https://x.com/variety/status/1829197821997666585?s=42&t=5Je0sRgUL7f4IwzSBg7GKg Will be interesting what exactly we get here, since I think the scumbag had a big hand in the production, but I have no idea how much control over the final cut

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 4
Yeah, I'm pretty hyped for that. I've finally dipped into classic Joshi the last few months and absolutely love the wild 80s brawls with Dump, Bull and co.

[1983-12-26-WWF-MSG, NY] Bob Backlund vs Iron Sheik
Yeah, just watched this again recently. Masterful selling performance from Bob here. Ironic this is how his long reign ends, considering a typical Bob title defense saw him wrestling on top for the vast majority of the match

German catch
I believe the comparison of Backlund and Wanz I was making was to them taking 80% of a match and not anything to do with similar styles

GWE Non-Thread Worthy Comments
None that I'm aware of. Would be cool to see if some of it is out there

RIP Kevin Sullivan
Everything I've seen of the Florida Prince of Darkness run has been wild. His passing may finally inspire me to try and watch as much of it as I can. I've been wanting to explore classic Florida for years. I also loved his team with Jack in the 90s RIP

Is the empire crumbling before our eyes?
I think one of his attempts at going into business separate from daddy, many years back, was some kind of sports streaming start up in China, or something

AEW TV - 7/24 -7/27 - Prestige Worldwide Presents Blood & Guts
Well, the psychology of cage matches originally was to either prevent a heel from running away again, prevent another double countout, or prevent interference. Any brutality caused by the cage was a bonus, not necessarily the goal. The old cages were supposed to have sharp spots to cause cuts and therefore blood loss. But really all you need to do is suspend disbelief a bit

RIP Leo Burke
Oh wow. 47 minute video! I think the date is off. Martel lost the AWA title at the end of 1985. Wrestlingdata has a 7/3/84 date for them in Halifax for the AWA strap

RIP Leo Burke
And a correction to my initial post, it was Leo's brother who worked as Bobby Kay in the Carolina's, not Leo

RIP Leo Burke
Here's a Leo Burke playlist, including several videos from our own Matt D's channel. Lots of Puerto Rico https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2IINZIkUSU7LtHS0wSaOwI9akJaWh3WM&si=ZaP3U2LX3cDPsDPk

RIP Leo Burke
Just saw this. Not a lot of footage to judge, at least as far as I know, but he was held in very high regard by a lot of folks, including Bret Hart. Worked extensively in his home area of the Maritimes, wrestling was the family business, and also Stampede of course. Looks like the Carolina's were his main US home (as Bobby Kay). Also helped train a lot of future wrestlers

SAMS Ragtag 1970s Yearbooks
Is that tag really from 1/31/72 MSG or is it the Boston Garden match between the same teams from 1/22 that came out on Hidden Gems 5-6 years ago? Just wondering because I wasn't aware the 1/31 match was out there

R.I.P. Sika
The Wild Samoans had one of the great monster heel looks of all-time. Also perhaps the definitive "Albano team", with three separate runs as tag champs managed by him. Their best matches were as faces though, against the North South Connection in 1984 (oj recently raved about them in his WWF thread in the Microscope) RIP

WWE TV - 6/17 - 6/21 - Owned By A Contraction. Again.
Hopefully not with something similar to when they did a death angle almost exactly 17 years ago

OJ's WWWF/WWF thread
Yeah, I've always been high on these matches, especially the first one. I've always found it hard to wrap my head around Hogan as a heel at this time. He basically looks the same as the superhero Hogan of the later 80s that I first encountered, so to my brain everything about him screams babyface. You can see why the fans would soon embrace him, because he's not really hateable in the way the top heels of the day were
