Really good match with Paige and Pac. Popped for Hangman winning. Cool little rivalry they're building between them
  2. Cody's hot and cut a killer promo like his daddy. Also like his daddy, I think most of the time he should chase the title and work blood feuds. I suppose the WK match Jericho has coming up may precipitate a title switch soonish, but they can likely milk it for a bit longer.
  3. The modern hardcore audience is extremely passionate and supportive of what they love, but there just isn't enough of them to turn back the clock to 1998. This is more like 1995 in many ways, low attendance and irrelevance for WWE, a new contender on the national stage (of course WCW had been national for years, but Nitro was new and different) and a similarly passionate hardcore fanbase wanting change. Things are so different now, though. Who knows what the future holds, something could catch fire, but I dont know if a major boom is still possible

When they revamped the Network they eliminated the year-by-year Hidden Gems setup and have only re added a selection of what was available before. Not sure how much is missing
  5. Yep, good idea
  6. Any thoughts on this week's show? I thought it was another good ep with more subtle angle advancement regarding Tim Storm and Kamille. There is a lot of uncertainty with Storm (is he going to snap and go heel, or is this a slow redemption story with him eventually regaining the NWA title?) and Kamille continues to be a wonderful mystery (why did she interfere during the James Storm vs Cabana match?). The RnR's finally debuted this week. And there was an interesting angle involving the women. Again, the show moves fast but the overall story moves slow. Maybe my favorite wrestling program right now
  7. World Cast of the Champions VII: NWA Great American Bash 7/16/88 https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/world-cast-of-the-champions-vii-nwa-great-american-bash-71688 July 16, 1988 The boys are joined by not one, but two special guests for the longest World Cast ever, and every single minute is gold as they look at the 7/16/88 Great American Bash from Greensboro that recently dropped on the Network, featuring WAR GAMES!!! Longtime friends of the show and the PWO Network, Johnny P and J.B. are here to look at a super fun NWA/Crockett show, highlighted by... -World Class tie-ins aplenty, from Bugsy to Jimmy Garvin to the man who took Art Crews' hair -A masterful heel performance by Ron Garvin -Dick Murdoch being awesome -A great match between the Rock N' Roll Express and The Sheepherders -A great Bunkhouse match between MX/Cornette and The Fantastics -A not-so-great Scaffold match between the Road Warriors and the Russians (and far from the best version) -A young, fresh Stinger -And an epic, bloody War Games to top it off! A great time was had by all, so clear up your calendar and get comfortable for World Cast of the Champions VII!!!
  8. Episode 79 https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/world-cast-79 October 22, 1983 Big show this week. From the Sportatorium, the boys review an uber rare NWA title defense on TV, as reigning champ Harley Race takes on the Iceman! Also... -Is Superpush '83 dead? -What the hell are "Super D's"? -As a bonus from Ft. Worth TV 10/24/83, Garvin vs Adams for the TV title! -Plus a big announcement about an upcoming special episode featuring a certain wrestling genius!
  9. Another fun week of Power, with things moving at a breakneck pace. They really cram a ton into 50+ minutes. But even with the show moving fast, angle progression is slow and deliberate. A bunch of possible directions have been teased since the debut episode but things are parceled out in a way that leaves future direction uncertain, and that's a good thing. Really like Aldis and Drake. Tim Storm, although not featured today, is a such a fascinating story. Cornette is hilarious. Women's division needs work no doubt. Love this show
  10. Yep. Need to rewire our brains and not see everything like WWE booking. That's what I love about AEW and Power, it's a fresh start without all the predictable topes at every turn
  11. Better shoehorn those historical facts into more Fox programming asap
  12. During the World Series telecast on Fox, Koloff defeating Sammartino for the "WWE championship" (whatever) given a shout out by Joe Buck with a graphic (the famous photo of Koloff coming off the top with a knee) as a memorable cultural moment from 1971 during a history of baseball in Washington (1971 was the year one of Washington's earlier teams left for Texas). Gotta love the cross promotion!
  13. Anyone know how many tix were made available for Full Gear? Sounds like it's getting close to a sellout. I just realized a few minutes ago that it's being held at what was formally the Baltimore Arena. That's cool, I didnt even know that building still existed. Lots of big wrestling moments happened there over the years
  14. There was a brief shot of a cluster of empty seats opposite the hard camera while Cody was in the ring, but I have no idea if those were seats they actually sold tickets for or not. I dont recall Meltzer writing about a sellout in the Observer
  15. The matches are all fine and good, but segments like tonight with Cody and pals vs the Inner Circle around the arena is what I love about AEW
  16. Episode 78 https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/world-cast-78 October 15, 1983 The drive to the two big year end shows for WCCW is in full swing and the boys are enjoying the ride... -Introducing Sunshine's "Assistant". What impact will she have in the future? -The perfectly unmemorable career of Art Crews -Watch Kamala go from unstoppable animal to tamed beast in 20 minutes -Can't stop Superpush '83! (ok, I guess Chris Adams is pretty impressive too) -And David vs Garvin in the main event, with the Claw looking like the most dangerous hold in wrestling history
  17. Riho's awesome. Loved that match
  18. Ricky Jackson replied to NickH's topic in WWE
The footage is apparently from Tri-States, which of course was the predecessor to Mid South, not Central States
  19. Best part of the first two shows for me is the mysterious, mute Kamille and planting seeds of her eventual breakup with Aldis
  20. Ricky Jackson replied to Stiva's topic in AEW
It was a mostly fun weapons match, but far too long
  21. I've listened to the first two eps and really enjoy the show. Arn's great, and we get a more serious side to Conrad. Good stuff
  22. Yeah, I didnt really have strong feelings towards the term "cosplay" before Power debuted and this thread started, but Jesus Christ, I HATE it now. Please stop. I'm an old school guy, in pretty much all forms of entertainment, not just wrestling, so maybe that helps me enjoy this show. If you're all about modern and the future, ok, this must be torture to watch, whatever. Personally, I thought the first show was great and I think this show has tons of promise. As for those who are upset the show hasn't been nitpicked or criticized enough...really? Yeah, that's what wrestling discourse in 2019 needs more of, bitching and complaining about every little thing. I mean, of course WWE deserves the pile on, but Power has released ONE SHOW, let's calm down a bit. If the presentation and "lack of stars" are a turn off, fine. But for some, it works and is a perfectly fine representation of pro wrestling
  23. Yeah, this show was so much fun. They nailed the perfect balance between nostalgia and modern. Main was really good. Between this and Dynamite what great additions to the wrestling landscape, and damn it's really great to be a fan in 2019
  24. Ricky Jackson replied to Woof's topic in WWE
I know NXT is yesterday's news and the clear second best Wednesday night show, but holy shit Walter vs Kushida from the latest ep was freaking great
  25. Most fun I've had watching wrestling in ages. They've really got something here
