What match were you watching? He is 100% emulating Funk here.

[1991-11-01-CMLL] Octagon vs Fuerza Guerrera
This came out of nowhere to shoot near the top of the list for 1991 matches. I don't expect much from Octagon but he held his own here allowing Fuerza to carry him to an awesome match. At first I didn't like that tthey didn't do more straight up brawling in the 3rd fall after things got so violent and bloody, but what they did suited Guerrera's goofy character.

I like how in between all that Terry Funk footage they decided to upload a video called "Japanese Sexy Hairdresser."

The last two episodes were tremendous. I really enjoy the concept. Looking forward to this.

Best Babyface Ever?
I never said he was an awful babyface, I said he was an awful choice for best babyface of all time. I think he was over because of consistency. He was portrayed as a great wrestler who always worked his hardest. People saw his whole career play out in the WWF, and then when he got pushed to the top he was a fresh face in that role who people saw as deserving. They grew up with him. Not only that, but he was seen as a legitimate wrestler in an increasingly cartoon world. He stood out for being a normal wrestler. I'm not saying he was bad at selling, I just don't think it was something that stood out compared to his other abilities. Even when other people were pushed harder by the booking, he was probably portrayed better and more consistently than most and was given more opportunities to have great matches.

Best Babyface Ever?
I wouldn't call him the absolute best, but I think Windham is one of the very best. He was really great working from underneath and building sympathy especially when you consider how much larger he was than most of his opponents. Dustin Rhodes should be in the conversation for the same reasons.

Best Babyface Ever?
Oh yeah, the answer is Terry Funk in All Japan. And selling definitely got him over.

Best Babyface Ever?
We'll just agree to disagree. I don't think selling played any particular role in him getting over. To me Bret Hart is a natural heel and played a great one even when he was supposed to be giving face promos.

Best Babyface Ever?
Bret Hart is an awful choice. I don't mean to be rude by saying that, but in my mind he is the furthest thing from a great babyface. A good babyface creates sympathy, Hart shows too little emotion to even qualify. There is no desperation in his selling. He's just there.

Best Babyface Ever?
It was Masa Fuchi & Kenta Kobashi vs Santana & Snuka from the WWF/AJPW Wrestling Summit in April. I know it aired on the 4/22 episode of AJPW TV. Actually I just found it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YC75b4P_a3g

Best Babyface Ever?
I've seen at least one match from 1990 AJPW with Tito playing heel and I remember thinking that he was pretty good at it.

[1995-05-22-WWF-Raw] Bret Hart and Jerry Lawler
Bret Hart seems like a whiny, bitter, psychopathic bully. Similarly to Hulk Hogan, Bret always comes off as a heel in promos, albeit for different reasons. You almost feel bad for Lawler here. Hart was miscast as a babyface.

Roddy Piper
If misawa was able to somehow adjust and perform really well, then its just another thing in his favor in comparison to his peers. It doesn't take away that he didn't. Piper's lack of quality output at that age just shows that he pales in comparison to so many others who have a better resume.

Roddy Piper
I don't hold it against someone, I just compare them to their peers. Plenty of wrestlers had similar physical limitations and performed wonderfully. I don't count it against Piper, but he doesn't get any points whereas a guy like Terry Funk does.

Roddy Piper
There have been plenty of wrestlers who made valuable contributions at that age. There have been older main event players and older wrestlers who were still good at his age. Piper was only 42 in 1996.

I liked their Starrcade 96 match with Nash and Hall. It opened my eyes to them as a team. Would make my top 25 favorites but I don't know about greatest.

NWA On Demand
The Funks vs Wahoo McDaniel & Ivan Putski This was a great match that made good use of the double referee 2/3 falls stipulations. It started off alright. They displayed how the double referee situation would keep interference down with Terry trying to interfere on a bunch of headlocks and bearhugs by Putski. All of that lead into the finish of the first fall that was really well done and timed by everyone involved with the Funks still getting away with cheating for the pinfall. From the first pinfall on this match was awesome. Dory sold the beating he took going into the second fall and they made good use of Putski's limited talents, keeping him chasing after Terry and going off on offense and mostly out of the ring. The second fall ended with an abdominal stretch which Boesch called an Oklahoma hold. He also bizarrely referred to a body slam as a crotch hold slam or something. The Funks' isolation spots were really good and the cheap finish of the 3rd fall made sense in the context of the match with all the referees holding Terry back from breaking up a second abdominal stretch and him striking one in desperation, not wanting to lose the titles. The Funks really were a great team.

I've probably seen better matches through this service, but so far that Fantastics/Dundee & Mantell match has been my favorite. Dundee was all around awesome.

Ron Garvin
Are they considered some of the best? My impression was that they were surprisingly good because nobody expected Garvin and Valentine to have it anymore and it was an undercard feud with two guys bringing it in a way that was atypical of the work in the company at the time.
