The Road to Wrestlemania
I'm going to WrestleMania but that still have no desire to actually watch the weekly TV build to the show. Just past the point of being able to stick through a whole show and watch it. So WrestleMania comes down to having good matches for me to watch live in person. I'm disappointed with Rock/Cena and Lesnar/HHH as those are two matches I really don't want to watch again. Just seems like the losers from previous matches will get their wins back. I'm guessing there will be some big tag team match to get guys on the card. I'm just hoping the mid card delivers some quality matches. Punk/Undertaker will make for an interesting live experience but I don't see Punk winning at all.

[1991-01-30-WCW-Clash of the Champions XIV] Ric Flair vs Scott Steiner
Flair gets an atomic drop in successfully. Steiner clotheslines Flair over the top rope in front of the referee but no disqualification. This makes the tag match finish from earlier continue to look worse and worse. The Steiners really look like idiots at times. Here Scott stands in the ring while Flair is outside on the floor which a minute left in the time limit. Show some urgency Scott. He then taunts to the crowd as the time is being counted down. What a moron. Not ready to be a top singles guy.

[1991-01-27-AJPW-New Year Giant Series] Mitsuharu Misawa & Toshiaki Kawada & Tsuyoshi Kikuchi vs Jumbo Tsuruta & Akira Taue & Masa Fuchi
We start off with Taue and Kawada which is the right thing. Their hate has been a real welcome addition to these six man tags. Kawada knocks Jumbo into the railing at one point and you know he will get his later. Jumbo is pissed off when he finally gets in there with Kawada. I thought it was a foregone conclusion that Kikuchi would take the pinfall but Taue gets the win over Kawada to continue their feud on. Kawada was the man of the match here for me.

[1991-01-26-USWA-Memphis TV] Jerry Lawler, Bill Dundee & Fabulous Ones
Lawler seems to be going at it alone. He survives a tennis racket shot from Cornette and Kiern. Dundee finally comes to Lawler’s aid. Beatdown by the heels with Dundee getting caught in the ropes by the neck. Dundee thinks the Fabulous Ones are puppets with Cornette pulling the strings. He doesn’t like The Fabs listening to someone like Cornette. Cornette and the Fabulous Ones are not in studio so as to avoid the overweight female fans. They keep bringing up Funk which reminds me his is still champion. There wasn’t much of a bounty on Dundee though. Now they get Lawler and Jarrett in a tag match with the chance to get the full bounty. Lawler talks about some of the big names who have come to Memphis who he beat. He’s after the World Tag titles as that’s what will hurt the Fabulous Ones the most.

[1991-01-26-USWA-Memphis TV] Jerry Lawler vs Terrence Garvin
Garvin gives the ladies some hair advice such as actually washing and conditioning it. Bruno wearing a tuxedo. He’s the new Sid. Must be getting ready for those eventual Finkel matches. Scott Bowden referring the match in his business casual clothes. Bruno has moved uptown. Long TV studio match but a lot of stalling in it. Bruno gets involved a couple times. Lawler has some scissors and tries to cut Garvin’s hair which causes him to run off and get counted out.

[1991-01-25-USWA Texas] Bill Dundee vs John Tatum
I thought Dundee got himself another valet before realizing it was Tessa. Tatum is still hung up about her. The crowd is noticeable smaller. Tessa tricks Tatum with a hug to get Dundee the win. These feud does feel played out.

[1991-01-19-WCW-Saturday Night] Ric Flair & Arn Anderson & Barry Windham & Sid Vicious vs Sting & Brian Pillman & Rick & Scott Steiner
Sting and Flair square off early in match. The focus becomes Flair/Scott Steiner as they mention upcoming match at the Clash. Scott cleaning house. Never felt like we would get a clean type finish as with the amount of guys in the match they were breaking up pinfall/submission attempts really easy. Agreed about the match feeling crowded. Smaller ring makes it harder for the big tag matches.

[1991-01-19-WWF-Royal Rumble] Royal Rumble
So Savage never entered Rumble. Hogan and Tugboat go at it and Hogan eliminates Tugboat from behind. So that would be three Rumbles in a row where he eliminated a friend from behind. Makes his 1992 tantrum continue to look worse. Did Hogan really need to survive the Earthquake Splash when he was already in a 2-1 handicap situation? Hogan was the obvious choice to win anyways. I'll have to go back and watch this Rumble in full. I think I preferred it more the the 90 version.

[1991-01-19-WWF-Royal Rumble] Ted DiBiase & Virgil vs Dusty & Dustin Rhodes
Dusty misses a charge gets rolled up by DiBiase. Dusty kind of just bails to check on Dustin. Seemed a flat finish to the Dusty/DiBiase feud. Crowd chanting Virgil right away. DiBiase does some berating of Virgil to get his Million Dollar Belt. Crowd totally wants Virgil to clock DiBiase. And he delivers the belt shot to huge pop. Really cool moment. Having them together so long and then teasing the friction over the past year really worked in the end.

[1991-01-19-WWF-Royal Rumble] Sgt. Slaughter vs Ultimate Warrior
Earl Hebner with awful ring positioning until finally getting Slaughter to break the Camel clutch. Here’s Sherri to interfere Warrior drops her on her head and then launches her outside to Savage below. Poor Sherri. Savage takes out Warrior with scepter. Crowd not liking that finish. Seemed silly that both Piper and Monsoon were shocked at Fink announcing Slaughter as the winner when they clearly saw him get pinned in the ring. Best part of match was left out when Savage completely blind sided Warrior near the entrance earlier in the match.
