General thoughts about 1994
I've hit the half way point of the yearbook and I have to admit that WCW has probably been the most impressive overall of the wrestling groups. Great matches and great promos. I was not a WCW fan at this time so it has been pleasantly surprising to have my view of this organization changed. SMW has had their moments with Rock n' Roll Express/Bodies and Roberts/Dirty White Boy. These yearbooks have really been great at showing off people like Tony Anthony. Best thing going in WWF has been the Bret and Owen feud. Some great tag matches in January also. Steiners had a strong start and then disappeared. ECW is in the beginning stages of their run and USWA had been a bit disappointing. AJPW was barely seen until the Carnival but we got some great matches in that and May and June had probably two of my favorite matches of the year. FMW has provided me with some good Onita/Tenryu action and a tag match that had me really excited about when watching. Super J Cup delivered well. Mexico has had some matches that have opened my mind to Lucha. I'm still remain stubborn on Joshi and Shooto Crapo when viewing. Overall, 1994 has been great so far. I think the match selections and promo/angles choices have got better as the yearbooks have progressed. Congrats to Goodhelmet/Loss for putting these together and for the various posters with their match suggestions. I looked forward to many years to come.

[1994-06-28-ECW-TV] Interview: Paul E. Dangerously / Interview: Cactus Jack
Oh, this is the promo spitting on the belt and throwing it down. After watching his WCW tag team matches, I didn’t like him throwing down the title. I know he is trying to put over ECW but he did win the WCW tag team in a pretty damn good brawl. Overall promo is good as Cactus gets more time to talk.

[1994-06-25-WCW-Saturday Night] Contract Signing: Ric Flair vs Hulk Hogan
I do like how they put over the match really big by doing the whole contract signing with Ted Turner appearing. Flair blows off Bockwinkel’s handshake attempt. Wish I could pull off Turner’s mustache. Turner legitimately seems to be having a lot of fun being apart of this. Check out Hogan’s eyes on the poster behind Flair. Evil! This was fun and I think Turner upstaged everyone with just sitting there and smiling.

[1994-06-25-WCW-Pro] Steven Regal vs Larry Zbyszko
Larry has been getting more and more aggressive in these matches as they have gone on. Solie puts over Larry’s golf game. There is indeed clubbering going on in this match. Love Regal’s forearm shots. We get a DQ finish which is disappointing as I figure we will get more matches from the two but I guess that won’t be the case. Would have liked some type of closure on this feud. Agreed with Loss that sad to see this fued will no longer be on yearbook. Much thanks for including these matches though.

[1994-06-24-ECW-Hostile City Showdown] Cactus Jack vs Sabu
Actual wrestling seems out of place for these guys. I understand having a feeling out period but I figured these guys would just come out brawling right away. Nice punch by Sabu that drops Cactus to the mat. Match had it’s moments but did feel like a standard ECW brawl at times. Outside of the first meeting of the two didn’t feel like anything too special and the finish was dumb. The bigger impact stuff came after the match ended.

[1994-06-23-WCW-Clash of the Champions XXVII] Ric Flair vs Sting
They talk about Sting and Ric Flair facing each other on the first ever Clash of the Champions show. So would this match/event pretty much be an end of an era with Hogan coming in? Sherri comes out with Sting face paint on apparently to say she is in Sting’s side. How they hell can he trust her? Is he even looking for a manager? You would think he would say thanks but please leave me alone. Flair is in full heel mode stalling and yelling at fans. This turn still doesn’t make fully sense to me. Why did he choose to turn? He beat Vader. I can see him facing Hogan first as both good guys, losing and then turning heel when he feels he can’t beat Hogan without cheating. Sting inadvertly hits Sherri by mistake. He goes to check on her for some reason when she on her feet which you would think would mean she is okay. Then gets rolled up by Flair from behind. Then Sherri turns on Sting who really comes off as an idiot for falling for this. I really am feeling bad for the WCW fans from what I’ve seen from this yearbook so far.

[1994-06-23-WCW-Clash of the Champions XXVII] Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan
Can’t help but hear those boos for Hogan’s introduction. Not the reaction you would want here. Hogan’s says to listen to the Hulkamaniacs and the crowd boos even more louder. Hogan challenges the winner of the Flair/Sting match. Flair looks demented on the video scream. Not the Ric from beginning of the year. More boos for Hogan.

[1994-06-23-WCW-Clash of the Champions XXVII] Steven Regal vs Larry Zbyszko
Regal wearing some nice pre match garb to the ring. Your move now Dory Funk. Regal is just rocking the forearms in the match. He grabs Larry in a chinock but forearms him repeatedly across the nose. Regal gets revenge and wins back the title. Good reaction throughout the match. Their matches have been a fun series and from the matching listing we are not finished yet.

Promo was just okay. I prefer Public Enemy when they are goofing around.

[1994-06-18-WCW-Saturday Night] Interview: Ric Flair
The look on his face before talking had me thinking he was losing it. He recovers with a good promo. Flair says he is upset with Okerlund and Gene feigns surprise at this. Oh that Mean Gene. Flair is trying not to look past Sting but he wants to get face to face with Hogan once he unites both titles.

[1994-06-18-WCW-Saturday Night] Interview: Arn Anderson & Dustin Rhodes
Dustin needs him a partner to take on Terry Funk and Bunkhouse Buck. He again requests Arn Anderson to be his tag partner. Sounds like Arn is going to agree then and there but needs a couple days to think about it.

[1994-06-18-WCW-Saturday Night] Ray Traylor and the Guardian Angels
Ray Traylor becomes a official member of the Guardian Angels. Agreed, they did do a lot to try to get this gimmick over. I wonder did the Guardian Angels draw any new recruits based off on this being on TV.

[1994-06-18-SMW-TV] Interview: Dirty White Boy / Interview: Jake Roberts / Jake Roberts vs James Atkins / Dirty White Boy and Fake Kendo
Both these guys deliver some of the best promos you will see. These guys have talked up the best fued on the set. Dirty White Boy continues to impress me on his promos but Jake takes it to another level and manages to nail one better. Jakes wins a squash match and we have these dueling masked men involved on the side. Didn’t need those guys out there giving involved in this feud. But damn were those promos good.
