[1993-08-09-USWA-Mid-South Coliseum] Jerry Lawler vs Mr Perfect
My first reaction was how much TV time of this we got to see from the Coliseum and all those matches that we only get brief highlights. Corey Maclin probably breaks the record for saying Unified the most times in this match. It's an alright match for me as I do like Perfect being more aggressive and less over the top on the bumping. Just something about Perfect in 93 that rubs me bad. I did really like the finish though even with the referee reversal. When Lawler clocks Perfect the the chain he throws it over his shoulder into the crowd. It gets caught by this dude in front row who had been jawing with Perfect most of the match. That was fitting.

[1993-08-08-WCW-Main Event] Ricky Steamboat vs Steven Regal (No DQ)
Regal gets a nasty looking cravat on Steamboat. About ready to twist his head off. He then snapmares Steamboat over and holds onto the neck more. Back and forth hammerlock reversals on the mat. Big fight for a butterfly suplex. Ahhhh. I don't want to be critical of this match. I'm trying here. In a perfect world my dvd would have skipped the finish. Because this was really great until the end. I hate, hate no disqualification stipulations where the match ends in the disqualification!!!! I'll remember the good times though. Regal is easily the best thing in WCW right now and I was loving this match.

[1993-08-08-NJPW-G1 Climax] Genichiro Tenryu vs Shinya Hashimoto
Tenryu coming in high with the chops and hitting Hashimoto in the throat. Tenryu seems especially stiff during this with the shots he was laying in. Those toe kicks to the face always seem nasty. I found it to be a pretty dominate performance by Tenryu with him just mauling Hash with stiff shots and big bombs. Entertaining match with some good near falls at the end.

[1993-08-07-WWF-Superstars] Face to Face: Yokozuna and Bret Hart
Hart gets himself a WWF Title match against Yokozuna at MSG. Savage versus Lawler on that card also. Fuji manages to out talk Bret with Hart struggling to get a word in towards the end.

[1993-08-07-NJPW-G1 Climax] Hiroshi Hase vs Tatsumi Fujinami
When the started handing Fujinami the trophies after I was surprised that this was the actual final to the tournament. Lackluster compared to the other Hase matches. Fujinami in the 90's hasn't done it for me. I thought maybe it would be Hashimoto's turn to win G1 tournament in 93.

[1993-08-06-NJPW-G1 Climax] Masa Chono vs Hiroshi Hase
I really did like the figure fours by both men on the outside. As Zenjo said it might not be the most sporting way to win in from of the Japanese crowd. But I think it showed just as much how each guy wanted this and was willing to get the count out victory. Good teases with each guy just making the count. I'd say I liked this a bit more than the Hash match.

[1993-08-03-NJPW-G1 Climax] Hiroshi Hase vs Shinya Hashimoto
Wow, 70 posts in a yearbook thread! Few had to do with this actual match though. Good match but I found the finish to be a bit too much of a fluke. Hash was in control and gets hit with a suplex out of nowhere. Not really a move that would put him down for a three count either. But I do appreciate NJPW trying more to put over guys in a tournament like G1.

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 3
Khawk has the best gifs in his signature. Will Christmas wrestling shows ever return? I don't see WWE bringing those back. About the only thing that does Christmas these days is the NBA. Tough cause you like to see folks get the day off and be with family. I'd be at a loss if EPL stopped doing their Boxing day fixtures but a lot of the foreign players hate the schedule.

Wrestling Christmas Presents
Santa sent me a big Jerry Lawler set this year! If I had been awake when he delivered presents I probably would have got a fireball to the face instead.

[1993-08-02-WWF-Raw] Jim Cornette debuts
I know Heenan wasn't managing but to me it felt like the passing of the torch to Cornette as the next main heel manager in WWF. Heenan is really excited to see Cornette and they exchange a big hug in the ring. Cool segment and great way to introduce Cornette by having him buddy buddy with Heenan.

[1993-08-02-WWF-Raw] Who Is Lex Luger?
Luger starts off the interview talking up how important academics were in his family and I'm waiting for Jim Ross to pop in with a 3.78 GPA and me having to take a shot. They are trying to humanize Luger and make him a down to earth guy. Good that they tried to have him be different than the over the top Hogan.

[1993-08-01-WCW-Main Event] Ricky Steamboat vs Steven Regal
I really enjoyed it for what it was and thought Regal looked great. He was dominating match for the most part until they gave Steamboat some late pin attempts. The post match promos added some spice to things for the return match with Regal looking a bit pissed off at being shown up by Steamboat.

[1993-07-31-SMW-TV] Interview: Bob Armstrong
Clip of Armstrong getting hit by a chair behind referee's back and then getting pinned. Bullet Bob calls it the most embarrassing moment of his career. Bit hard on yourself Bob. Special guest referee Big Boss Man for next match. Armstrong also has one on one match with Cornette and it's a lumberjack match where everyone outside will have tennis rackets! If Armstrong doesn't win he will have to refund all the fans and his career will be over. If a face requested a stip like that these days the whole crowd would turn on him so they could get a free show out of it.

[1993-07-31-USWA-TV] Interview: Jerry Lawler
Lawler is wearing a WWF King of the Ring tshirt. More people have come to see Lawler in the Coliseum than anyone else including the Beatles. Jerry is billing Bret Hart as being from New York City.

[1993-07-31-JWP-Thunderqueen] Aja Kong & Sakie Hasegawa & Kyoko Inoue & Takako Inoue vs Hikari Fukuoka & Cutie Suzuki & Mayumi Ozaki & Dynamite Kansai (60-Minute Marathon Match)
I was totally confused at the beginning as I thought this was like those old Survivor Series matches where someone gets pinned in less than two minutes as they have to rush through match. Seemed like it was a quick singles portion before everyone else got up on apron and match continued. Damn, did this match go long. Wasn't prepared for that. At times I'm close to checking out with the multiple piledrivers and submission holds that don't go anywhere. Second half of the match got me back in though and was pretty entertaining. I do love big tag matches and match had Ozaki who is probably my favorite for Joshi. Thought strong performances from her, Kansai, Kyoko and Aja.

[1993-07-29-AJPW-Summer Action Series] Mitsuharu Misawa vs Toshiaki Kawada
It is subdued to start before Misawa hits and elbow and then Kawada kicks him in the chin. Yeah, tough to follow Hansen/Kobashi but this is still pretty good on it's own. Kawada is still going about trying to figure out how to beat Misawa. This and the 92 match is a great lead up to their 94 encounter. Part of what endears me to Kawada is how he goes overboard and gets reckless. Like he has a solid game plan to win but goes off it when he gets desperate. He's total putty by the end before Misawa finishes him off with a Tiger Suplex.

[1993-07-29-AJPW-Summer Action Series] Stan Hansen vs Kenta Kobashi
Not much to add but this really is an amazing performance by both guys. What I've really come to love about Hansen and Jumbo too is how much they give to their opponents. From Misawa down to Kikuchi they make their adversaries look great. Great start with Kobashi just absolutely taking it to Hansen. One of my all time favorite finishes with Hansen just walloping Kobashi with the lariat. It's not shown here but when I first watched this they showed an almost autopsy still in the locker room of Kobashi's messed up face. It summed up this brutal physical match.
