I watched this in full and would definitely recommend checking it out. Though Shark had a terrible reputation back in the day I thought she performed her role capably here. The match layout was very well planned. Explosions came at regular intervals, and don't forget the barbed wire, blades and flames. The 20m flew by and Tsuchiya was well protected. Kudo is such a superb sympathy babyface. Usually with hardcore matches I don't give a shit what happens because I feel nothing for the victim. Yeah it helps being a cute girl, rather than an ugly bloke with a forehead like an inner city road map. Megumi survived a hell of a beating and scraped to a victory in her final bout. This was a fitting way for the Queen of FMW to bow out.

The Yearbook debuts of two of the JWP class of '94. Montoya was such a sweetheart outside of the ring. But put a Joshi wrestler inside the ropes and the transformation usually occurs. She really stood up to Ozaki, showing fire and determination. Carlos was an eager young lad. She and her teacher concentrated on Dyno's knee to cut her down to size. Kansai's selling was excellent. I liked how all four individual matchups had strong dynamics. With fine workrate allied to the psychology I enjoyed this a lot. The vets did such a great job in guiding the youngsters and putting them over within reason. JWP and GAEA did this so much better in the mid 90's than AJW did.

This was such a blast. Negro's character work was off the charts. Prancing, preening, cheap shotting. He was El Bastardo and had the crowd in the palm of his hands. With El Dandy on the other side he had a great foil. They had this fantastic strike exchange and more besides. Felino also impressed as the workrate was strong all around. Satan was physically slowing down but more than made up for that in other areas. The other 2 tecnicos held their end up. You don't get many trios that even try and be as good as this.

The taping date for this is 4/26. With Dandy vs Felino exchanges you know there's going to be some nice action. Hector Garza was very flashy and displayed some impressive athletic ability. I sensed that without strong rudos to support him it could all come crashing down. That wasn't a problem today. Decent first fall. I was unsure at that stage whether the quality level was going to up or down. The surprising answer was both. The middle stages were weak, with a lack of intensity and focus. It seemed to be drifting to nowhere. Yet they turned it around completely with a strong tercera to end on a positive vibe. 1996 CMLL has the feel of a promotion on the rise again after a few tough years.

The aerial work was cutting edge with some breath taking daredevil manoeuvers. Having sufficient time allowed them to turn it into an impressive match. Usually it was just a 5m collection of spots on Nitro. Here they could mix in some submissions and pace it out. After so many battles against each other the two Luchadors combined flawlessly. Not top-notch, but one of the better WCW Cruiserweight matches from the era.

Talk about blowing the Juniors out of the water, on their showpiece night no less. The BOSJ Final main evented, but felt like a supporting act compared to this. Talking of supporting acts, both Hirata and Iizuka played their no.2 roles adeptly. Hash was at his peak, radiating star power. The challengers came in with a clear game plan to target his wheel. The problem was that they got their asses kicked. Yamazaki had both a pre-injured hand and ribs, so he couldn't offer much resistance to the beating. He just had to hang tough. At the end SSM was setting him up for the kill and Hash was just focused on neutralising Iizuka. Then in one move Kazuo locked on the Juji and it was over in seconds. Great storytelling and very well thought out. Plenty of excitement too makes this one of the better tags of the year. Top notch performances from both top dogs.

A well worked contest with a nice contrast in styles. Mero was the high flying risk taker who pulled off some spectacular moves. Austin was the more fundamentally sound grounded worker at this time. Effective heel control segments with the right amount of fightback. The sections of the match fitted together logically and the closing stages swung back and forth. Plus clean heel win shocker. This type of match was more NWA or early WCW in style than WWF. Too cerebral for Vince's liking.

Lawler had to feud with some terrible opponents in Memphis over the years. The Dumpster was possibly the worst he's ever had in the WWE. Who on earth thought that this gimmick would work?

Santo started wrestling 32 years ago this month. Athlete's bodies tell them when to retire and he clearly didn't listen soon enough. Hopefully he won't live out the rest of his days in chronic pain. An extraordinary career in which he took the masks of about 30 other Luchadors without losing his own. The legendary Santo mask will probably now be passed on to one of his sons. Not only was El Hijo Del Santo incredibly successful, he's also one of the finest workers in Mexican wrestling history. My all time favourite tecnico.

Doink the Clown. The face version was like circus clowns. The heel version was funny.

This was a terrible idea that totally goes against the spirit and intention of the previous videos. Lance comes across as the most boring wrestler alive. The only highlight was Jericho implying that he might fuck the average female fan at one of these shows. The kid was young and naive agreeing to do that bit.
