No idea why they had the Texas Death Match rules as it was effectively no different than a street fight. And what a wild one it was! All 4 guys were bleeding within 3m and the whole thing was a tight 11m of action. I couldn't believe how hard they were swinging the steel chairs at each other. Stiff shots and high impact moves with great intensity from all. Part of me wanted more as they could maybe have taken it further had there been twists and turns at the end. But the chances are it was as good as it could've been as a sprint. FMW is just perfect for the yearbooks as most of it is shit but there's the odd gem that turns up every now and then.

Heated rivalry going on. First 2 falls were brawling lucha, which I'm not usually crazy about. It worked OK here. Picked up significantly in the tercera with more submissions, close near falls and severe exhaustion selling. The selling felt a little OTT, fun though it was. Had the base engaged me I'd probably rate it quite a bit higher, so I can appreciate why others would tag it as a MOTYC.

The only poll I've taken part in is AJ, though I've also watched NJ and OJ. Will definately be on board for the lucha set. 1) All Japan - Some classics, loads of good matches and very few bad ones. 2) New Japan - A very good set. The top 125 matches weren't far off AJ quality overall. I'm glad I din't have to rate the bottom 50 matches though because 175M rather than 150 was a mistake. 3) Other Japan - Half the length of the other sets and about half as good. I still enjoyed it though.

This infamous contest was a damn ugly match, and not just because Vader nearly lost an eye. Even by their standards it was unbelievable how hard they were hitting each other. There was some enjoyment in the brutality. Half the time was spent outside the ring and everytime the crowd would groan anticipating the DCO. They teased many times before the inevitable. A memorable one for sure.

This was so good I don't know how I hadn't heard of it before. Hot action along with the interpromotional atmosphere makes a winning combination. You know GenTen vs Rikki is always going to be fun. Mask was decent enough in his role. The big surprise here was how impressive Georgey was, really sharp and strong. I liked how neither team was going down easy but they were still co-operating with each other. Many times in interpromotional matches this turns into no selling instead.

Onita's vest always makes me think of Rab C Nesbitt. That probably won't mean a lot to non-British readers. It wasn't long before his favourite article of clothing was all torn up. Oh yeah and his back. Did have some nice drama over the gimmick. What I actually dug most was the wrestling at the start and finish. Some meaty chops early and then at the end Onita just murdered him with a brutal head first powerbomb.

It's probably 9 years since my 1st and only previous watch of this where I thought it was a ***** classic. This yearbook project for me is about partly new discoveries, and partly about taking off the rose tinted spectacles of yesteryear and re-evaluating what was really great. This got off to a hot start as they immediately built on the rivalry and hatred they'd developed over the feud. Liger punking his opponant out early proved a big mistake as Sano fought back with furious anger. Liger's mask was so symbolic. It hung by a thread, as did his chances in the match. His very life blood was draining away. All seemed hopeless as Sano ruthlessly destroyed his foe. Yet from his battered shell the man behind the mask; Keichi Yamada emerged and was victorious. Yamada won the match, not Liger. No doubt an epic contest that felt longer than 20m. The beatdown was so one sided it was like watching certain lucha matches, it undoubtably lasted too long. The psychology was outstanding and the action at the beginning and end was strong with just the right ending. All it needed was a few minutes cut from the beatdown and that would have made a big difference. Still a classic match, but like others are saying it's match of the month rather than year.

The crowd were loud throughout but that was diluted by the Dome's shitty accoustics. I wonder how many times this decade I'm going to harp on about what a poor venue for wrestling it is. Consistant action, it would have benefitted from more storyline. Kido was surprisingly the best performer. The guy normally bores me to death. He looks like a bank manager. The idea of him threatening Jumbo was a bit too much of a stretch. The NJ team would've been better with a main eventer.

The meat of the match was solid fare, reasonable without being spectacular. Some toukon shown by Takada in submissions. What made it were the bookends. Lively opening with a big match feel. Then an excellent finish with Maeda desparately struggling before succumbing. Just beforehand he had been rocked legit by a nasty shot to the eye. Big win for Takada as he takes out the UWF top dog.

Yikes that crowd was scorchio! It was a shame that it was just a TV taping rather than a big PPV or Clash. They were wasted on what would normally have been a throwaway match. Nevertheless they helped to make this a good 'un. I liked how there was a lot of face shine and not a lot of beatdown. DQ finish was only a minor annoyance.

Felt a bit out of place seeing this in the WWF. This was a 1980's NWA match between 2 NWA wrestlers. Interesting dynamic as they kept going for pinfalls out of habit. Like others said this was a bit overdone. The strikes were really good. One of the things I dislike most about a lot of American wrestling is all the phony punches. None of that nonsense here with 2 guys laying into each other. Also had a strong rivalry and the psychology with the leg work. Well worked, wholesome and authentic. A memorable one off.

Took a few minutes to warm up before Tenryu started ripping at Tiger's mask and heeling it up. Mitsy was very much a midcarder at this stage. One of the things the 80's set showed was that you could have taken him out of AJ before 1990 and I don't think anyone would have minded. The mask was like an anchor. Thanks to Tenryu mainly this was good stuff and the extremely intelligent and well thought out finish was a joy to behold. Wonderful.

Mutoh had a couple of ringboys, but fortunately their impact was small. They fought this one mainly straight up and it was a nice TV main event. The "Oriental Guy" had been working in the US for a while now and was as smooth as a native. An even paced match where they filled the time well and it had a good finish. I'd have definately liked it to go longer with more storyline as there was potential for better between these two.

I got the sense that Tosh didn't want to be doing Junior stuff like this anymore. The Fantastics had some spectacular offence but hadn't figured out how to properly utilise it in a Japanese setting. They used stretch moves as throwaway offence during the build for instance. Despite this problem I thought they were a well oiled unit and it was a decent contest. Shame the crowd sucked.
