[1993-05-02-WWF-Providence, RI] Shawn Michaels vs Mr Perfect
Call me crazy but I enjoyed the booking antics with the Gunns out to tattle after a belt shot, and Perfect getting a win only to have it overturned. That being said, this still wasn't good because it was unnecessarily long and most of the time between all the shenanigans was pure filler and shortcuts. Maybe it works at 8-12 minutes, but not at this length. **1/2

[1993-05-01-WCW-Saturday Night] Rick Rude and Dustin Rhodes
Dustin doesn't come out for a match, but Rude shows up and says Dustin had a mishap backstage. Dustin makes his way out and wants to go at it with Rude, but Dusty holds him back. Rude says we've got the disease and the spread of the disease in the ring. They brawl as they go off the air in a nice angle.

[1993-05-01-WCW-Saturday Night] Flair for the Gold: Vader & Harley Race
Would it have been so hard for WWF to keep Flair in a suit when he wasn't in the ring? This feels so much more like Flair than just about anything out of the ring during his WWF run, even if its set in your high school theater. I loved Vader smelling a drink while sitting on a couch with his mask and grunting. Race probably got a big kick out of this segment. Some great comedy here. Talk about breaking Simmons' & Stings' ribs, running off Nikita & Cactus and breaking Joe Thurmond's back. That last part is a bit uncomfortable. Flair asks why he wears the mask and Vader grabs him by his jacket teasing an eventual feud. I enjoyed this a lot.

[1993-05-01-SMW-TV] Down and Dirty: Kevin Sullivan
Absolute jibberish, but Sullivan is having fun and so am I. This far out there yet slapstick may not work as a part of a main event act on a national level, but it feels like a great fit here. Apparently Nightstalker betrayed him.

Current New Japan
That one definitely dragged and was easily the worst. But Nak/Sak and Suzuki/Nagata more than made up for it on that show. Like you said, it wasn't terrible. Just a far cry from their other matches.

[1993-05-01-SMW-TV] Tracy Smothers vs The Avenger
Smothers wins with his jumping elbow, then DWB is out and decks Smothers with knux or something similar. He then paints a yellow streak on Smothers's back. I love DWB, but the idea of stars & bars clad babyface just seems so backwards. 'Murrica!

[1993-05-01-USWA-TV] Jeff Jarrett vs Brian Christopher (Hair vs Title)
Lawler is out and out passing out "Baldie Brian" posters to the studio audience. He probably got a huge kick out of that. Crowd seems really hot for Jarrett and the possibility of seeing Christopher get his head shaved. The wrestlers coming out to watch creates a great atmosphere and certainly sets up a big haircut. Christopher with a near fall on a flying elbow, then rolls through a flying crossbody for 2 as the match builds and feels pretty big. Would almost expect this to be at Miid-Sout but I think we're fortunate that its its not. Steve Doll trips Jarrett coming off the ropes, which lets Christopher wins the title with an elbow. Lawler & faces try to explain it to the ref to no avail and it eventually breaks down into a big brawl. ***1/4

[1993-05-01-USWA-TV] Jerry Lawler & Miss Texas vs Scotty Flamingo & Sensational Sherri / Interview: Sensational Sherri
We join as the post-match brawl is underway. Lawler piledrives Sherri and Cory Maclin interviewed in the locker room afterwards with a neck brace. Says someone's going to break Lawler's neck. How did I not love her as a kid?

WWE Network... It's Here
Not sure I have the ability to add it here, but could a mod add a poll where people can indicate how they're watching the network? I'm curious the breakout of tablet/pc vs. console/roku/tv device.

Is TNA the worst wrestling promotion in history?
I was thinking about going to a taping this week. Now I know why I'm not. I guess they're not going to try anything different this time.

Wrestle Kingdom 9 Reaction Show w/ Will, Dylan, Pete, Johnny and Johnny P
If his becoming a draw resulted in hotter crowds for the same matches he was wrestling a few years ago, then being a draw may in fact have made his output as a wrestler better. Unless you don't care about the crowd. I just don't see how its a black or white issue.

Wrestle Kingdom 9 Reaction Show w/ Will, Dylan, Pete, Johnny and Johnny P
I get what you're saying, I just don't see how you can entirely dismiss the commercial side of the equation. If nothing draws, all opportunities for the purely artistic work will disappear. Not too many are in the music, film or wrestling industries for charity.

Wrestle Kingdom 9 Reaction Show w/ Will, Dylan, Pete, Johnny and Johnny P
One Direction and Fast & Furious are clearly better at certain aspects of the music & movie business than other, more critically acclaimed acts. Doesn't mean they're good or bad, but they are succeeding on a pretty important level. Without that, work that doesn't appeal far and wide won't have any platform because the business will dry up. You need a mix, and won't always find both in the same offering.

Current WWE
Looking at the big picture, I think you could certainly argue things were a lot worse during the '93-'95 era. They have a very, very talented roster. At the moment they're booking to minimize that talent, but the assets are there. I can't remember enjoying a Raw less than last night. I was actually kind of pissed at myself for staying up that late and sitting through 3.25 hours of that. There was nothing I found fun in or out of the ring. Here's hoping Bryan is a shot in the arm and that between him, Sting and whatever they do with Cena, Mania season doesn't feel like a slap in the face. On the bright side, the bar has now been set so low that they don't exactly have to hit it out of the park. But man do they ever seem determined to kill crowds.

Current WWE
I'm hoping tonight is the show bottoming out. I can't imagine a longer 3 hours with literally nothing entertaining.

Are current matches just not as memorable or up to par as previous decades?
I don't recall who put it out there first, but I think the biggest factor is that just about every modern match of interest is either available live or shortly thereafter. Then a few minutes later there's a new match or show to check out. There's not much time for anything to breathe or stand out for too long these days. There are of course exceptions as there are always standouts, but we're not in an era where there are a few hours of live domestic TV and quarterly/monthly PPVs that are supplemented by infrequent tapes you order from Japan. Its all coming at you at once. But I've got no doubt that with the benefit of hindsight when we look back at this or any other recent year, certain matches and moments will absolutely stand out as classics even if we're not already appreciating them as such.

Wrestle Kingdom 9
Yes, she was there with Mike Bennett as part of the talent that was sent over for the G1 Finals and a few big shows in the fall, I believe the November PPV (which at least had Fish & O'Reilly, can't recall if Bennett was there) and certainly the tag league.

2015 WWE
Also wanted to add I've enjoyed this. Most fantasy booking leans too far to the fantasy side of things for me, but I've enjoyed how grounded and plausible all of this has been. Can envision all of it with rational decision makers.

2014 Match of the Year
HHH vs. Bryan at Mania Shield vs. Wyatts at EC Suzuki vs. Styles G1 Okada vs. Nakamura G1 Finals. Those are definitely my top 4. Not sure about the order yet but I think I prefer all 3 singles to the six-man.

Wrestle Kingdom 9
I'm definitely watching UFC as its the first fight in a couple years I've been excited about and on a slow weekend it'll be a good chance to drag a couple friends over. Even without UFC, I'm debating how to approach this show. No chance I'm staying up to watch it live, but if I'm buying it I want it spoiler free. It'll be tough to make it through the day online without catching those on twitter or elsewhere. So basically the options are to order and DVR, then watch in the morning, or look to catch it online sometime next week. Plus I still haven't made up my mind which commentary I want to watch with, which will also impact things.

[1993-04-30-CMLL] Ciclon Ramirez & Corazon de Leon & Oro vs Felino & Javier Cruz & Negro Casas
Jericho has a big time "happy to be there" look on his face. Oro is noticeably quicker than everyone else and it really stands out. Awesome Santo-like dive by Cicolon Ramirez on Felino as part of the first fall's finishing run. Casas a little too blatant setting up Jericho's moonsault for the fall. Second fall feels really disjointed, even by lucha standards. Ramirez pins Felino in the 3rd to take the match for the technicos with a jacknife on a power bomb. Oro was definitely the standout here. ***1/4
