[1993-02-27-WCW-Worldwide] Rock & Roll Express & Ricky Steamboat & Shane Douglas vs Hollywood Blonds & Heavenly Bodies
Quick action early with fast tags and bumping by the heels. A Cornette racket shot sets up heel run with Gibson in peril. They brawl outside while Gibson stays working underneath inside. Great spot with him looking for the tag in the wrong corner as the other 3 going batty on the apron looking for the hot tag. Austin briefly cuts off the hope spot, but Steamboat in on the hot tag and all 8 guys end up in the ring with tons happening at once. Cornette tosses in the racket and we get a double DDQ. About as fun as a 10 minute match can be. ***1/2

[1993-02-27-SMW-TV] Ricky Morton vs Bobby Eaton
Cornette promo putting down the RNR who come out to confront them, setting up Morton vs. Eaton. Eaton takes out Morton's knee and works a figure four with leverage from Cornette. Basic, effective studio-style match with a Morton comeback before the Studd Stable attacks both guys. Bodies & Killer Kyle out as well, for big 3-way brawl. Really digging this feud.

[1993-02-27-USWA-TV] Interview: Eddie Gilbert / Eddie Gilbert vs Brian Christopher
Eddie with a promo talking about wrestling Doug. He paints Doug as an idiot, says he's finally going to take him apart. Christopher then out with Prentice. Lots of stalling / stooging and comedy with Christopher eating punches. Doug interferes for DQ. Jarrett out to save. Eddie's fun but USWA really doesn't do much for me at this point and that won't change over the next year.

[1993-02-22-WWF-Raw] Interview: Hulk Hogan, Brutus Beefcake & Jimmy Hart
I thought the Manhattan Center was pretty stoked for Hogan, at least given the heat for most of the roster at this time. He recaps Money Inc. attacking Beefcake with a briefcase last week and establishes Jimmy Hart as a face manager. Says he's back as Vince's eyes pop out of his head. Calls out Brutus who's nose is bandaged and eyes are bruised.

[1993-02-21-WCW-Superbrawl III] Vader vs Sting (Strap)
Not much one can add to the discussion here. Just hard shots throughout while effectively delivering monster vs. babyface and making great use of a gimmick that can often be a hindrance. I still think Vader was the best big ever at bumping and selling while not compromising his credibility or aura. I loved Vader bailing only for Sting to use the strap to pull him into the post and then slam him him on the floor. Sting looking to touch the posts while on the outside is a cool wrinkle to this match. Sting's fiery comeback with the koppo kick, German and DDT was awesome. Throw in the visual of Sting lugging Vader's carcass around and blood from both and you've got an all time gimmick match, as well as a finish that keeps both strong without feeling like a cop out. One of the 2 best matches of the year's first quarter. ****1/2

WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders, & Chairs
This show opened fantastically and got progressively worse. Kane/Ryback was more nonsense. If you don't want to push Ryback that's fine, make that decision and either don't feature him or job him out quickly. If you do, don't waste 10 minute of his and my time in a match that doesn't help him. Maybe I was incapable of enjoying the main event because I've just about washed my hands of Wyatt, but on the other hand my expectations for him are so low it shouldn't be too hard to exceed them. That didn't happen here. I think Ambrose is great, and maybe its just the taint of Wyatt's stink, but his overdone facials and twitchy selling weren't doing it for me tonight either. I can't help but think Rumble will be good because Cena/Brock almost has to be very good at worst and the Rumble should be enjoyable. At a minimum, there's certainly a high level of intrigue to see if they stick with Reigns, and if so, what the plan is to heat him up for Mania. I didn't like his promo last night. Was it blooper reel bad? Not at all. But it was also not remotely a performance that has be excited to watch someone crowned in the biggest moment at the biggest show of the year. Its a high standard.

WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders, & Chairs
Cena/Rollins felt like an okay version of your typical Raw main event most of the way. The Big Show run in was dreadful, but Reigns was a nice surprise and good spot for him, even if I still believe its way too late to heat him up enough for Lesnar at Mania. Solid but not as good as I hoped for.

WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders, & Chairs
If we get a True Blood finish to the show I'm not going to be happy.

WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders, & Chairs
I read the paper during the stairs match. Every time I looked up I was glad I was reading the paper. Would have only been interested if Rowan turned it into a shoot and actually put Show out for good.

WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders, & Chairs
Mizdow is a riot. I don't know when the act will get stale, but hopefully not before he gets a split and Mania match out of it. As far as whether the ladder match is memorable, that depends on tomorrow and the weeks that follow. If its built upon, it will matter. If its not acknowledged in any fashion at all and doesn't impact how either are booked, it'll just be a very good match on a given ppv.

WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders, & Chairs
I watched the Smothers/Candido ladder match from the '94 yearbook earlier today. Thought this was a lot better. Obviously a lot less wrestling, but they had creative ladder spots, violence and blood. MORE!

WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders, & Chairs
That match was awesome. They even seemed to go out of their way to film the blood. Totally had me buying the finish on the 1-2 climbs before the end. Loved it. If anything else approaches or tops that this show will be a great, great show.

NXT Revolution... live as it happens
I rewatched the second half of the show which confirmed my initial thought which was that I enjoyed Charlotte/Banks more than Zayn/Neville. Huge Zayn fan and think he can do well at he next level, but Neville doesn't connect at all. He seems utterly emotionless at all times, which only works at those times like the spot during the 4 way at least big show where that was what the situation called for. It seems like he jumps from spot to spot and moreso than others who fall prey to that it really takes me out of things. Not to say I didn't enjoy the match, because I did, but not at the level it seems many did. Now the finish, post-match coronation and angle? All money. Loved it all. I almost fear that pulling the trigger on Zayn/Owens now rules it out on the big stage but won't fret about that too much right now and will simply enjoy it.

Leaving money on the table...
Not quite sure it would've generated mainstream buzz, but there were probably plenty of non-WWE events or shows he could've appeared at that they found a way to work into Raw that would've made it a really big deal to the core audience. Problem there is with the timing, I'm not sure you could've stretched it out enough to capitalize on it. Summerslam was too soon to bring him back, Survivor Series was already Rock's return and that means you're pushing it to the Rumble if you want to give it a real chance to draw. On the other hand, much as I like Rey, Summerslam wasn't about to do boffo business with him on top.

Wrestler Snapshot (Which nominees to focus on?)
They're not bubble candidates, but I'd be interested to hear a discussion on Eddy Guerrero and Bret Hart. As I've been going through yearbooks and other random footage, they're 2 guys I had pegged as near elites who don't quite feel that way at this point.

NXT Revolution... live as it happens
Its hard for people with control to give it up. I'm sure we can all relate to this in may settings outside of wrestling.

[1993-02-21-WCW-Superbrawl III] Great Muta vs Barry Windham
Has anyone ever been DQ'd for using the toe of the boot? Flair on commentary and it really doesn't add much like you'd expect. Handspring elbow and backbreaker but Muta misses the moonsault. Windham gets his knees up on another moonsault attempt and follows with the DDT to win NWA Title. Flair in the ring presenting the belt to Windham to set up their run.

[1993-02-21-WCW-Superbrawl III] Rock & Roll Express vs Heavenly Bodies
Fun, familiar RNR vs. Bodies/Midnights. They hit a lot of great tag spots that they've probably done a million times, but nice to see them get to do it once again on a national stage in front of a hot crowd. Loved Lane getting mixed up running the ropes and colliding with Cornette. Ventura suggests Pritchard is a doctor in gynecology, which seems pretty risque for the time period. We get the Gibson hot tag, double dropkick and a save before Eaton's interference backfires for the finish. ***1/2

[1993-02-21-WCW-Superbrawl III] Chris Benoit vs 2 Cold Scorpio
First WCW PPV I ever bought. I'd buy the next few as well. They didn't exactly deliver the way Superbrawl did. Scorpio looks so much faster & more explosive than anything else going on domestically at the time. Decent counters resulting in a Scorpio dropkick. Benoit ducks spin kick and hits lariat in a nice spot. Just a great pairing and hot opener. The finish was so well done with impeccable timing from Benoit, Scorpio and GMC on the house mic. ***1/2
