I thought this was great. We can only imagine what's going through Bret's head as he walks to the ring, but it has to be a hell of a feeling. Not much to add that hasn't been covered here, but as much as they may not have enjoyed working with each other I sure as hell liked the product. Flair didn't mail this one in at all, selling the hell out of his arm during Hart's early shine and continuing to do so after an early transition puts him on offense. If anything, it felt like he went out of his way to put Hart over strong throughout before going down for his finisher. The hope spots & comebacks were timed well to build heat towards the culmination and a massive pop. Best match of the year so far for both of them. ****1/4 -

I'm with Brick on this one, black & blue Kobashi was great, but never felt like Kobashi.

Those wipers were amazing. Maybe its just me but one of the more memorable moments from this era, perhaps because because they always included it in recap videos.

I was going to be unhelpful and say every Shield 6 man from TV, but Jimmy gave you more than a significant sampling. Along with Punk/Cena from the February Raw, those are probably my favorite WWE matches of the year -- PPV or TV, before Summerslam. That is the story of their whole feud so far. Sub-fifteen minute trios, with insane pacing and sick levels of violence Maybe its because I was trying to catch up on some other things at the same time, but that felt like it went by in a flash. Are they building to a hair match there as well?

The Rush/Casas trios was way too short. A shame they couldn't squeeze find those minutes elsewhere in the undercard.

I think the fact that Vince didn't go over the top in the Austin feud - at least as far as what he was asking of his employee - is what made it so easy for people to relate to and loathe that type of character.

If that's how things were done back then, it helps explain why a lot of people suck today.

Sting is not 2013 Sting on the mic, but classic Jake is still classic. Such an awesome heel. Loss hit this one on the head -- you were waiting for a silly angle to happen, but they kept it simple and let them work it on the mic. Then again, they also did that video in the bar with Mad USA & the midgets.

Man this was awesome. Watts talks about Eddie Graham, going back to cage matches, Texas Death, First Blood, Pole and other matches. The NWA didn't want to sanction those matches so they symbolically turn off the lights to note that its unsanctioned. That was actually an explanation I'd never heard before. I assume its legit?

Horner has a concussion but will still wrestle DWB. That sure wouldn't fly today. Ron Wright is just great, and DWB is a solid heel but far from a world champion. The RNR deliver a promo about Cornette saying they can't challenge for the titles again. They promise a surprise for Cornette. Morton says its for the Midnight--excuse me, Heavenly Bodies, and he laughs at it too.

I just wasn't feeling this as much as some others. Panther's solid on the mat, but everything in the first fall felt like CMLL in slow motion without any urgency or tension. Even though probably 90% of his face is masked, I still dig Panther's facials and his ability to tell a story that way. Astro definitely flies well for a heavy. The finish was also pretty anticlimactic. Nothing wrong here, but nothing particularly compelling or memorable. ***

I came into this knowing it was basically Jumbo's last ride and enjoyed the hell out of him here. Soup said it best, every time he wanted a reaction he got one. What an awesome wrestler. As much as I was digging him, Taue got hitched to the rocket a bit here, DDT'ing Gordy on the floor, winning power struggles with both Americans and countering them like a seasoned vet. You'd think after all of that that he'd surely eat the pin following a double power bomb, but Jumbo is there for a great last second save. Taue finally grabs the big win with a couple nodowas on Gordy following a nice finishing stretch. ***1/2

I thought this was a really nice mesh of the slow stiffness you'll get from JWP like the Kansai vs. Ozaki singles match with the gogo style of Toyota or Kyoko. Oz shows why she's one of my favorites here, tearing Fukuoka apart and working as a great heel with her focus on the knee and hair pulling. Kansai's suplex to Suzuki on the floor was absolutely brutal. I don't know how much she was selling as opposed to working around a ton of pain immediately after, but it didn't look like she had fun taking it. They told a great story with Kansai as the monster ace here who wouldn't go down until Oz & Suzuki hit a ton of double team spots on her. Kansai tags out for a breather and lets Fukuoka take more of a beating, as well as botch a rana on Suzuki who tries to cover for her. Hot finish with big moves & near falls including a Kansai Bomb before a double headbutt and Oz standing tall like she should. ****

Regarding Pedro/Backlund, I haven't looked at any numbers recently outside of what's been posted here. Was there any point from when Ivan won the belt until Hogan where the company drew substantially above or below a certain trend line? From the limited numbers here, certain big matches that would be expected to pop the house did so, but otherwise there was a decent floor below which things didn't really fall, and not with consistency. Coming at it from a devil's advocate perspective, how much credit are we giving or taking from these guys for keeping business at a certain level, or was there a similar trendline to the modern era where when business moves, you can point to it -- Punk in '11, Mania, Rock, Lesnar, Henry @ MITB?
