Were the Death of the Territories in the 80s Inevitable?
Without being too simplistic, just look at WCW. The booking, creative and in-ring became so awful that they quickly went from selling out Domes for TV to doing ECW numbers on PPV. I can't recall the details on why various places lost it without looking it up, but commonly a combo of poor booking, stars leaving and a superior product being spelling the end. The weight of each can vary in a given situation, but it doesn't happen while the territory is on fire that fans just stop showing up after a hot show.

When did the Buddy SF incident occur?

The Steve Austin Show
Couldn't agree more, he sounded perfectly lucid and just generally thrilled with where his life is at. I don't know where the payday for DDP eventually is, and I don't care. What he's done is remarkable and he deserves all the praise in the world.

Too much wrestling
Who wants to watch wrestling in a window on a laptop screen? Just viewing stuff on Youtube takes any of the fun away from me. If I ever put aside any time to watch anything, I want to lie back and watch it in proper quality on a proper television. I generally feel the exact same way. I've got a couple long wrestling playlists on Youtube but never really make it there as I'd rather pop in a DVD and watch on the big screen. It really loses something for me and is basically only an option if I'm not home and have time to kill somewhere.

[1997-02-09-NJPW] Jushin Liger vs Shinjiro Otani
Wow, talk about bold. Superior to Liger/Samurai in '92?

[1997-01-04-NJPW-Wrestling World in Tokyo Dome] Super Liger vs Koji Kanemoto
Couldn't agree more, this is the period where I literally remember watching things week to week and remember this more than I do what may have happened in 2008 or '09, for example. I'd be further along in '92 but this whole wife thing really is a drag on nights & weekends. Apparently she gets a vote on how we spend our time every now and then.

Always look forward to seeing you work your way through the yearbooks. Definitely gives me something to look forward to when I eventually catch up. Curious to see your thoughts on a number of matches this year as we're now getting to the point where I've seen much of the high end stuff at some point or another whereas earlier in the decade I was basically limited to US tv.

Wow, thanks for compiling all of that. Looking forward to catching up on some things I've missed there.

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 3
Top secret double bonus points on that one. I loathe myself just playing it out.

1997 Hype
I woke up this morning and along with a dozen or so work emails had this set listing arrive in my inbox. GOOD TIMES! Can't wait to go through the listing in depth today.

Current WWE
I really dug how Brock & Punk worked the physicality there as they managed to present Punk as both an underdog against a monster like Lesnar but at the same time hold his own more than enough that it didn't look like a blowout. And Heyman's promo? He should've just dropped the mic and walked off. Game over.

Money in the Bank 2013
I'm actually shocked they went with Orton given his 2 strikes under the Wellness Policy. Unless he doesn't win upon cashing in, wouldn't this be the first time they put the belt on someone with two strikes?

1980s Wrestling Party #14
No question I agree with the statement about PWO, as its the main reason I can spend hours here at a time and always find something to reread. At the same time, I'm not quick to dismiss the visceral reaction upon a first watch or rewatch. Its those occasions where your visceral reaction is backed up by a thorough analysis after the fact that separates the classics from your impressionable youth from those you watch, love and develop a further appreciation for the second or third time around. At least for this guy

Damn you. Now I really want to pick up the AWA set (a territory truly on the bottom of my list to look back on) and follow along with the set and podcasts. Way to go, Mooney!

Ring of Honor Wrestling
Sounds like the first ROH show in years I'll be interested in checking out or at least seeking out multiple opinions before passing on.

What's wrong with a conviction statement? If a match / movie / book requires a technical breakdown to appreciate it, is it really that special if it doesn't connect with you otherwise? And vice versa?
