Put another notch in the Stinger's belt. I prefer the Sting's series with Vader to anything Luger did with Flair or others from '88-'91, even while acknowledging that his run then was better than any comparable period of Sting's. But Sting was the first WCW guy I marked out for and it'll take more than an honest look back at Luger's best run which came before I even had cable to change teams. Its completely illogical but just being honest.

I don't doubt that at all. But for novices, until they get a few (maybe a lot more) hours under their belt, it may not be that easy to distinguish.

Definitely interesting -- why do you think the back story / context would've turned you off? I started watching a lot of Japanese by picking up tapes based on recs from the WON and years later looking things up. While I enjoyed what I watched, I recently started rewatching a lot of AJ from the DVDVR 80s project as well as all the 90s classics in chronological order and (re)reading a bit more about much of it along the way. Going back and watching in that fashion has been *significantly* more enjoyable, as I've been able to pick up on and appreciate a lot of little things that previously escaped me and better follow the story from match to match, year to year. Looking forward to doing the same w/ NJ as I'm just diving in to the '92 yearbook and will watch those straight through '96 and then beyond whenever there's time. As an aside, I've watched VERY little lucha -- as in maybe a few DVDs and a matches online worth. Have generally enjoyed it but am def interested in seeing a lot more on the yearbooks. Always wanted to get into it but never really made the effort.

That is awesome. I don't even think it'd qualify as something spectacular from that era, but its just so refreshing and different from everything going away. You wonder if they'll be anything close to a reset where the formula veers away from a scripted promo in the ring to set up every show, and there are generally simpler and shorter interviews to set up television. My gut says we're in the reality era indefinitely, but perhaps its toned down at some point.

I don't see them passing on Ryback/Show as its a spectacular visual that they usually don't miss the boat on come Mania time. I'd also say they don't mess with revenue at Mania, but with chatter about taker sitting out and potentially cluttering the main event as a 3 way has me a bit concerned. Forget the nonsense about what Punk deserves. I just don't see why you water down the biggest attraction on what you hope will be your biggest show ever.

That's where I stopped reading. Shoemaker is even more insufferable than usual in that piece. Unclear to me whether he or the guy on youtube who freaked when Punk lost gives wrestling fans a worse name. Wouldn't want anyone I know to be exposed to either.

Check out Slaughter's bump on the way out in '92. I rewatched this yesterday as part of the '92 yearbook and thought it was the craziest bump in the match.

The midsection work on Rock and knee work on Punk were really great. Have to think Punk was responsible for laying that out. I didn't love how suddenly it wrapped up after the restart but they couldn't exactly have a prolonged stretch run at that point. Really fun.
