  1. The crowd was booing like crazy but that was the point, I can never figure out when a japanese crowd is just going along with a heat segment or is legit pissed off though. As someone who has been calling for Naito to win the main belt, I didn't see it as a big deal though it did feel like a western type angle and they could've save it for tomorrow's show. But again, I didn't mind it.
  2. I'm really happy they finally got the 40k paid for Night 1. 30k paid for Night 2 ( @MoS ) is really good but you gotta wonder if the biggest draw for the weekend was Ibushi challenging for the title instead of the double champion gimmick. The G-1 is different - and has way less tickets to sell - but when they book the big triple headers for the final 3 nights, the final one doesn't suffer in attendance even if night 2 has a bigger main event. Anyways, saw the final two matches. Jericho vs Tana showed how charisma can carry a match for long stretches. It was really fun watching these two play off each other. After the Red Shoes bump it got into a little lull but they picked it up for the ending. Good match. I could be forgetting one, but I thought Okada vs Naito was the best match they've had against each other since their 2012 Korakuen classic. Naito finally won the big one!
  3. The latter. And again, that was in response to a specific thing Makai said.
  4. This is getting too much into semantics but I don't think "modern epic" = "self conscious epic". I do think the latter has become more common in the last 18 years but regardless, I wouldn't call Okada/Ibushi that. I wasn't hoping to see a sprint at all, I knew Okada/ibushi wasn't going any less than 35+ minutes. I was just disputing the "You can't start at 10 straight away, you need things that make it the natural story" point Makai made. It's not like every Okada title defense needs/has to have this formula were he spends 10 to 15 minutes establishing a point that could be done in less than 5. Then it shouldn't be puzzling my man the "meaningful segment(s)" become more boring or annoying to me with longer matches, because they take too long. And in Okada matches they are even more glaring to me because of how incredible he is at coming up with great finishing sequences that are so long and dramatic.
  5. Like I've said, Naito's coronation has taken so long that Ibushi is getting "Naito'd" right now If somehow Okada is the one winning, that would be hilarious though.
  6. Didn't feel the point of the first third was establishing much to be honest. Okada asking for more aggression didn't need that much time for my liking. I didn't think the match gain much from it either. Ibushi tends to go "serious face/obliterate my opponent" mode often so it didn't feel like a big pay off at all to me, just something I expected to happen. I'd LOVE to see a sprint in a big New Japan main event to be honest, it's been so long since we've had one.
  7. It seemed packed as hell so that would be awesome. Was able to catch the final minutes of Naito vs White with both just hitting stuff and then Naito getting a W in very decisive manner. Okada vs Ibushi was the typical Okada match were the first third is completely useless. The second third picked up (had some scary bumps too) and the final third was incredible, to the point of the silly no selling doesn't matter. I was surprised at how quiet the crowd was for the Okada vs Naito confrontation at the end. Not sure they weren't that interested in a champ vs champ gimmick (would be really weird considering how much the show drew) or they just couldn't choose. Regardless, 2 years they were salivating for Naito and it didn't seem that way...we'll see how it turns out tomorrow.
  8. Watched last night's Bryan/Miz/Corbin main event. Two things stood out: 1.- The second half with just Bryan and Miz was pretty great. Only thing that bothered me was Miz kinda shrugging off a superplex. 2.- The lack of reaction for the finish.
  9. The PED diet is pretty much mandatory in puro. All seems to indicate that they don't destroy themselves with them, they just do it with the bumps they take.
  10. Ratings for the 3rd hour of RAW was 1.8 million. Have they had a viewership below 2 million on a non holiday edition of RAW before?? Also man, I wanna say none of us bought that bullshit ass segment. At least I hope we didn't .
  11. The hell? "Chica" is not misogynistic at all. It basically translates to girl or lady depending on the context. Out of everything Punk said, "chica" should be the least of Lana's problems
  12. This is what I got with them involved. Daisuke Sekimoto vs The Bodyguard - Big Japan 2/23/19 (not a great one but it's one of those "clash against my opponent until someone drops" type of fun match) Yuji Okabayashi vs Zeus - All Japan 4/21/19 (this one legit felt like a freaking Kaiju battle) Daisuke Sekimoto & The Bodyguard vs Takuya Nomura & Fuminori Abe (Astronauts) - Big Japan 9/15/19 Daisuke Sekimoto & The Bodyguard vs Kento Miyahara & Yuma Aoyagi - All Japan 11/21/19 Here's the full lists, not every match is a MOTYC of course, but it's just to make the case why these should really be considered as performers of the year. Specially when you consider their excellence in both singles and tags, with different people, partners and opponents.
  13. If the night 2 champ vs champ matchup is Ibushi vs Naito, who do y'all think the japanese audience will root for? I mean, it would be a split crowd no doubt but the japanese always end up siding with one over the other in those type of situations. I'm legit curious because I can see both of them getting the nod from the fans.
  14. Holy shit was not expecting this match to be this good. It follows a more southern tag formula, with Kento getting isolated and leaving Aoyagi by himself to survive the beating the dudes, specially BODYGAH, have in store for him. They are able to keep things interesting for the first 15 minutes of the match, it's nothing out of the ordinary but there's enough to keep your attention. Aoyagi is a good face in peril but his offense is so weak that his hope spots don't have as much "hope" as they should, imo. Still, the kid takes the beating like a man and his comeback lead to a nice hot tag by Miyahara. Then we get the last 7 minutes which were fucking GREAT and truly elevated the match to another level. In the end it's Sekimoto and Aoyagi slugging it out and really feels like the kid turns the corner as a performer: fire, a little better strikes and some impressive moves. Great nearfalls and even though Korakuen was sadly half empty, the crowd was lit for the home stretch. This match won me over like a motherfucker, definitely check it out
  15. Strong BJ vs VIolent Giants - Big Japan 1/13/19 Daisuke Sekimoto vs Yuji Hino - Zero1 9/14/19 Yuji Okabayashi vs Takuya Nomura - Big Japan 7/21/19 Daniel Bryan vs Kofi Kingston - Wrestlemania 35 I'm doing a best of Sekimoto and Okabayashi in 2019 list and it's fucking insane. Dudes went all out this year
  16. That's such revisionist history to be honest. You can't give a "masterclass in storytelling" when of the 2 years worth of story, 70% (at the very least) of it were either pure filler or nonsensical stuff.
  17. The Young Gawd and Abe do it again, restoring that shoot style feeling giving 13 minutes of intense grappling and striking :wow:. Felt like they went to war for 30+. Some nice counters by Abe, who still impresses me no matter how much I see from him, Nomura's slaps remain the best in the business. I hope Barnett books them for the next Bloodsport, Astronauts need more eyes on they. This was really fucking good
  18. I've said this before, Gedo took so long with Naito that in the biggest show he's ever booked he's either gonna fuck Naito forever or gets Ibushi "WK 12 Naito'd". He basically booked himself into a corner with this one. But still, this winner takes all format is by far the most fun idea he could've done after the G-1. Timing is a motherfucker. I do have to question the decision to do the Loser vs Loser match on Night 2 though. I guess White can live with two straight Ls (and give Okada his W back) but any other result could be damaging to whoever comes up short twice. Wait, they finally got 40-45k paid for one of the nights??? It does feel poetic, I hope Sano still has something in him to do make that tag match on night 2 something special. I can't help but feel Ohtani would've been perfect in that spot for the quality of the match, but Sano being his final partner makes too much sense not to do it.
  19. For all that is holy, can Harper work the Champions Carnival? I'm not that greedy for ask for him to work the Strong Climb but please just 1 big tour in All Japan with the big boys.
  20. Any chance Bryan vs Wyatt happens on the first hour?
  21. I think the bigger point is trusting just once source and not confirming it with other people. Now, if Dave talked to 3-4 people and all said the same thing and then he still had to retract the report, of course there would be a bigger story that just one person with an ax to grind/being wrong.
  22. LMAO. We've reached peak Seth Rollins.
  23. I don't think he makes it to 2020 on that show unless Fox really likes him and blocks WWE from their request of shutting him up because he consistently (and rightfully) shits on the product every time he's on Backstage
  24. More than TV viewers I thought this was worrysome for AEW That's Seth Rollins as your nª1 levels bad.
