RIP Corey Maclin
Well, it is said when a father of six gets taken at a fairly young age. Corey never was one of my favorites. In fact, it was always a running joke about how bad he was. I'm surprised he was only 43. He'd started on TV in 1990, which would have made him only 20 and at 21 he was sidekicking with Dave Brown. I'd have thought he was a good 5 - 10 years older. Those Memphis dvds he put out a few years ago were kind of a jip.

Todd Pettingill was the one in the Elmo suit. Not so funny now, is it?

1998 Recommendations
I Would definitely second the Willow the Wisp vs Kid Dynamo match that was on Music City Wrestling that one night. I remember, vividly, watching MCW every Tuesday on some shitbird station in Mt. Carmel, Illinois and just being BLOWN AWAY by this one.

Ring of Honor Wrestling
Who wasnt expecting the first few weeks of new TV to be an intro to the product? Any rational fan knew this and was fine with it. A lot of the points Cornette made in this interview made me think "well, yeah. Duh. Who the fuck said otherwise?" I'm glad Jim is taking a vacation from the sport. We all need to take time to relax and recoup after burnout. Nobody wants to see this man die at an early age. I might disagree with him on a certain talent here and there (I have never really had a problem with El Generico other than the ridiculous name but thats just my own tastes). Plus, there were booking decisions here and there that made me think that they were a step or two behind what the ROH fan would want (biggest example was the old Ether on a Rag trick Haas & Benjamin used over the Briscoes. You could hear the entire audience grown at that one). But, I am a Cornette fan, always will be. I just disagree with him on some of this stuff. Really, I think the problem is that SBG isnt, nor were ever, going to do for ROH what we all hoped they would. SBG, while thankfully footing the bill, seems rather apathetic towards this group. Now, if they let Jay Briscoe go while he's still World Champion then that shows not just apathy but outright stupidity. As an aside, on a personal level, I have no sympathy for Jay Briscoe. I thought his remarks were just beyond the pale. I would have taken the belt from him the first chance you got and fired them both. That's just me. You might think different. To repeat a thought from a previous post of mine, you knew, down deep in your gut, that SBG was not going to be the solution. It kept the company alive, yes, but it wasnt going to be anywhere near would it could be. I once again, point to an Inside the Beherens Bubble (which I miss) that had Bill speculate on all the ways SBG had the ability to make ROH grow. I dont think any of those ever took place. If you have spent any time in broadcasting, you knew it wouldnt.

I listened to about half of this interview. He wasnt nearly as venomous as I was expecting. Rather vague at times as well. I wish he'd have just named names and went into gory detail. The deal he talked about that happened in January and the boys got screwed and the TV was screwed up and all that good stuff...what the hell is he talking about? I was, also, kind of offended. I, as a wrestling fan, being compared to a Republican. Thems fighting words.

Yeah, I would have to agree with that too. The thing is, once again, the business has changed so much from what Cornette has loved and held dear to what its become now. Cornette is the old man in the room. You might ask him for advice but dont put the whole thing in his lap.

I know he's getting nowhere near the love he used to, but, I've been waiting for this. You could tell there was some serious hostility being built up inside. I think we all knew that the SBG deal was going to go badly, especially if you've ever been in broadcasting. I remember Bill Berhens podcast episode where he discussed it and knowing that none of the shit that Bill speculated on maybe happening was going to happen. You just knew it. Down deep, I think Cornette knew it too. Truthfully though, and this isnt meant to be mean, but I think Cornette has got to divorce himself totally from todays wrestling. Elsewise, he may end up killing himself. I mean that in all seriousness too. Not to get too clinical here, but Cornette loved what wrestling was so much and sees how its never going to go back and its eating him alive inside. I hope he has some sort of healthy outlet.

Yeah, just for clarification, this segment is hyping the 400th "Jerry Lawler Show" which did start in '83. The wrestling show on WMC started in 1977.

Well, Kitao got pissed off about SOMETHING. The match itself sucks but nice to see for the first time. Good for historical purposes.
