[1991-11-23-WWF-Superstars] Randy Savage and Jake Roberts
Didnt Lanny say in his "Breaking Kayfabe" that the cobra (while de-venomized) still died while Savage got a very bad fever? Savage gave far more than I would have in that case, I'll give him that.

[1991-11-19-WCW-Clash of the Champions VII] Lex Luger vs Rick Steiner
What I seem to remember about this match (which shows it was kinda anti-climatic on this particular show) is Jim Ross hyping "Death Wish 2" following the Clash. Remember when TBS used to be cool? Middle of the night movies with Bronson, or Chuck Norris or at least something with John Saxon for chrisssake! Hell, give me a Stuart Whitman even. Compare that to now. I work out in the middle of the night, and the tv screen in the cardio room was on TBS. It was "The Wedding Date". I watched like 45 minutes of that abysmal piece of shit. You dont know what you got til its gone, boys.

[1991-10-05-USWA-Memphis TV] Jerry Lawler vs Eric Embry
We here in the Evansville area didnt get to see this. Wrestling was pre-empted that weekend for the Clarence Thomas-Anita Hill coverage. Just about anything wrestling from 1984 - 1997, I can remember easy. Anything after that is just murky as shit.

[1991-10-12-USWA-Memphis TV] Jerry Lawler and Billy Joe Travis
Really? I really enjoyed this whole deal. An autographed guitar seems kinda contrived, sure (if he'd had the guitar in the video, having all the country music stars signing it would have helped). However, I enjoyed it because it really seemed human. Lawler, beyond furious, goes with that whole "two wrongs dont make a right, but it makes us even" logic. Sometimes, youre just so mad, you dont give a shit. I was shocked that they showed the license plate in a tight shot. Plus, this was before Pulp Fiction ("you dont fuck with a man's automobile. Its just against the rules")

[1992-08-07-GWF] Manuel Villalobos and Manny Fernandez
They did all sorts of stuff with Villalobos' poverty storyline. I remember Skandor Akbar bought the property and foreclosed on him. All sorts of goofy shit. GWF became rather notorious for wrestlecrap-worthy angles back then. Such as: Manny Fernandez beating up announcer David Webb. Webb then is so knocked senseless that he thinks he's Elvis Presley A new manager named Jackie Goldman, "Hollywood super agent" who takes the reigns of John Tatum. Tatum starts wrestling in a Spartacus costume to prove he can co-star in a new Spartacus pic starring Kevin Costner. Tatum also fueding with Jack Victory over who ran their pizza place into the ground. Rude Dog, a guy who thinks...well...that hes a dog. Francis Crybaby Buxton. A heel commissioner (who they imply strongly that he's a mobster) that fines Butch Reed for having fire thrown at him. Said commissioner later gets hit by the Feds and ends up a homeless man hanging around the Sportatorium.

[1992-08-14-GWF] Chaz vs Steven Dane (Bungee)
No, this was the Texas wrestler Chaz. Chaz was the son of Tug Taylor and, for all I know, never left Texas to wrestle anywhere else. I take that back, I remember him doing a match on TNA Explosion once.

[1992-03-28-USWA-TV] Jerry Lawler & Jeff Jarrett vs The Moondogs
I loved the job squad being the lumberjacks. The interview with them the previous Saturday was rather funny. T.D. Steele screams into the microphone, nearly killing the sound guy, and says "B'lee dat" in possibly wrestling first utterence of that one. Tim Wilson has a horrible speech impediment and says (I think) that he couldnt get out of bed for a week and missed work. Ricky Hayes is every young Volunteer Fireman I ever knew from that era. He was also so proud of that mustache. I heard a rumor that Buddy Wayne would invite outlaw wrestlers in the area in, claiming a tryout, and then feed them to the Moondogs to get beaten senseless? Some of those guys only showed up once, which led credence to that. I hope a couple times that was true, especially to the guys who didnt even wear boots. One guy was clearly wearing Asics amatuer shoes and one chubbo had white tennis shoes with white legwarmers, to simulate the appearance of boots.

I have always maintained that Pat Tanaka was always super underrated. Im glad these last few years, with the AWA on ESPN Classics, people are noticing him again.

Yeah, it was pretty much an open secret at the time. We all knew Brian was Lawler's son but no one really cared.

[1995-10-07-USWA-TV] Smoking Gunns vs PG-13
Since this is probably the only mention of Tekno Team 2000 anywhere on these yearbooks, I thought I'd relate this story. I was there at the Evansville Coliseum on the second to last USWA card there ever. I look up into the empty balcony and there is Chad Fortune. A very despondent, somber-looking, Chad Fortune, eating Wendy's chilli. He truly looked like if he had a gun, he'd have done the deed right there. I didnt bother him, needless to say.

[1991-08-24-USWA-Memphis TV] Dirty White Boy and Eric Embry / Chris Love & Dragon Master debut / Interview: Humongous
The Humongous part is really humorous. For three weeks, they'd been running the old videos of the original Humongous from 1984 and then a 1989 video of Sid Vicious as Lord Humongous. Then...this guy shows up. His match in the Memphis studio (vs the Scorpion) was so bad that it didnt make the tape to the other towns in the circuit. Children were openly laughing at the botches in that one. Then Samantha unmasks the guy. Dave and Michael are all like "Is that...is that 'He-Man' Randy Lewis? It is Randy Lewis!", like anyone knew who the hell Randy Lewis was.

1997 Recommendations
Steve Austin & Shawn Michaels vs Owen Hart & British Bulldog. May 26 RAW and of course, all the ECW Arena angles Lawler did. I completely agree with the Billy Travis gets arrested segment being included. There also that one Chris Candido promo around September where Joey Styles just cannot keep a straight face
