Shoots Review and Preview thread
Corino wasn't there until February or March of '99 - he'd certainly have been more entertaining for 2000 than Justin, but c'est la vie. I'm actually interested in Van Dam - he's a fresh subject (I don't think he's done a shoot since '97) and might have some good perspective on the booking in 1999. He's certainly a more interesting choice than New Jack.

[1998-04-04-ECW-Buffalo, NY] Rob Van Dam vs Bam Bam Bigelow
This is one I've seen a million times but never really tire of - great big spots, tells a great story both in-match (classic David v. Goliath, and the dynamic really helps Van Dam get over) and with the storyline (the issues with Sabu are a very natural outgrowth of their ongoing friendship and rivalry).

[1998-03-29-WWF-Wrestlemania XIV] The Undertaker vs Kane
I thought Taker having to hook the leg on Kane was a nice way to put Kane over in the loss - Taker never had to do that.

WWE Network... It's Here
Yeah, they are selling a library, much moreso than a network. But they don't get that and we're a long way from them getting it.

[1998-03-25-ECW-TV] Al Snow vignette
I actually think the build for Douglas v. Snow was pretty interesting - shame that Douglas was too hurt to have a decent match to blow it off.

[1998-03-18-ECW-TV] Paul Heyman promo
Trying to remember how the whole PPV thing went down - in NYC, with Time Warner, I know I was able to see Barely Legal, and then not able to see the last two in 1997. But I know I saw Living Dangerously live, so maybe that was a temporary deal with Time Warner before the long-term one. I lived in Queens and loved ECW, but somehow never went to the Elks Lodge until 2001, for an indy show that had a lot of ECW guys on it. Not sure why that was. I was in high school at the time and I'm guessing I could have talked my dad into at least one show if I tried, but I never did. I spent a lot of time at some pretty odd indy shows at the Elks trying to get the ECW live fix I never got in '97-'00.

[1998-03-15-WCW-Uncensored] Sting vs Scott Hall
What's with Sting doing crotch chops? The announcers weren't doing Sting any favors - they made it seem like such a shock that he won. Great sell from Mark Curtis.

Yeah, I had the same thought - since when did Gene do anything like that?

Shoots Review and Preview thread
Kayfabe Commentaries teased a big name for one of the remaining ECW timelines... my money would be on Dreamer, or maybe Tod Gordon.

[1998-03-13-FMW-Winning Road] Hayabusa vs Masato Tanaka
I'm with Childs on this one. I liked the effort, but the ending sequence just kept going and going, and there was no logic to why it ended when it did - it wasn't like Hayabusa used a significantly bigger move than the ones that had failed to end the match before.

[1998-03-07-ECW-Revere, MA] 2 Cold Scorpio vs Shane Douglas
This was good, but it was a bit shocking to see the athleticism drop from these two over just a couple of years - this was not close to the May '96 match.

WWE Network... It's Here
Hoping Monday Night Wars debuting means they'll get back to showing Raw (and add Nitro) next week.

[1998-03-01-ECW-Living Dangerously] Bam Bam Bigelow vs Taz
The difference between ECW and early 90s WCW is that the building in Asbury Park is full. I agree with shoe's point about the slowness of the second half, but I think the big bump still works and feels like a moment, even all these years later. Loved the meta-ness of seeing Paul E producing the show on the air - it's a look behind the curtain without saying "this is fake." Of course, that Sandman-Sabu match was not nearly violent enough to justify the hype.

[1998-02-23-WCW-Nitro] Scott Hall vs Sting
Sting is just not dynamic at this point; part of that may be the style Hogan wanted to wrestle, but you guys are right that he's not doing anything that makes him feel different.

Summerslam 2014
I also think there's absolutely a good story in either Ambrose or Wyatt being the only one crazy enough to wrestle Lesnar.

They had me with that F5 - felt like it'd be a brilliant bit of booking.
