AEW Dynamite - January 29, 2020 - The Sky is Falling and the Bloom is Off the Rose
Yeah, this show was enjoyable enough but felt like a bit of filler. Nothing offensive, though. I'm interested in where they're going with this Brandi thing - maybe there's an interesting story to tell here as they unwind this.

NWA Powerrr
Loved the Aldis-Scurll showdown from tonight. Not sure about the stipulation Aldis was suggesting, though.
-
Ring of Honor Wrestling
Scurll showed up at the NJPW USA show last night and challenged Jay White for the Mania Weekend show. I'd be into that one, I think.

NWA Powerrr
He did PBP, with Lord Al on color usually.

WWE Royal Rumble 2020
I don't really care one way or another about Roman, but if they expected anything other than a chorus of boos when he eliminated the returning legend... Why put him in that position? (Unless they're doing Roman vs. Edge in a battle of spears, which I'd be into.)

WWE Royal Rumble 2020
They just never learn with Roman.

WWE Royal Rumble 2020
Edge vs. Styles is a pretty awesome dream match.

WWE Royal Rumble 2020
But seriously, if this was the plan for Drew... what exactly has he been doing these last few months?

WWE Royal Rumble 2020
I actually think this has been pretty compelling. Obviously, would love to see someone other than Brock getting a push, but I watch so little WWE at this point that I'm happy to enjoy this in a vacuum.

WWE Royal Rumble 2020
I very briefly thought he was getting the shot at Lesnar, only guy I've been bummed to see get dumped so far.

WWE Royal Rumble 2020
Honestly, this is way better than watching the JTTSs kick and punch for 10 minutes. Rough for Morrison, though.

WWE Royal Rumble 2020
AEW seems to take a lot of care on these issues as well. I haven't had the sense of anyone working with a head injury.
-
WWE Royal Rumble 2020
Yeah, no one gets concussions in WWE main events and then is allowed to work another 20 minutes...
-
WWE Royal Rumble 2020
Becky's held the belt for 10 months and the only title defense I can remember is the Hell in a Cell match with Sasha.

WWE Royal Rumble 2020
And if he had Mox's deal where he could work both AEW and New Japan? Sigh.

WWE Royal Rumble 2020
At least they picked the right match for the death spot following the Rumble this year.

WWE Royal Rumble 2020
The Rumble as a rule is hard to take below "reasonably fun" but I am very cold for this show.

WWE Network... It's Here
I think it's also an issue where they know they have a baseline for the Network (people who want to see the current big shows) and the marginal benefit they can get from adding more/better content just isn't there. Even if something got them 100k more subscribers, that's 12M a year, which is a drop in the bucket compared to the Fox deal.

Are the problems in modern wrestling Mick Foley's fault?
I once did a podcast with the Beer City Bruiser where he talks about showing trainees the Mick-Shawn IYH Mind Games match to explain how to flow from spot to spot and make the big bumps meaningful.

AEW Dynamite - January 15, 2020
I mean, to be fair... he kinda did? (And it's worked, that dude seems to move a lot of merch.) I do think there's a bit of a disconnect between Marty's value to Being the Elite (a key, really, in that he's pretty funny) and his value as a TV worker (certainly valuable, but not sure he'd be an AEW main eventer).

AEW Dynamite - January 15, 2020
They did a comp show that's on Honor Club - it's all the matches from a tournament on the boat, plus the Y2Jacksons-Kenny/Cody/Marty six man.
-
Ring of Honor Wrestling
The problem is that so many of the top guys came from there that I don't think there's a lot of dream matchups to be done, outside of Marty/PCO. There's a lot of money to be made jointly on Okada-Omega V, less so on Jay Lethal vs. Pentagon.

Is Impact* the best wrestling promotion in history? *(Now TNA again, 2024)
I can't believe this didn't happen on a SoCal major indy at some point.

AEW Dynamite - January 8, 2020
Cage is a PWG guy, with everything that statement brings with it. He'll easily fit into the style, and I actually think he's probably better off working 10 minute TV matches than 20 minute epics, in that he can be fun and do big spots but isn't a master from a structuring perspective.
