Are there any comps out there similar to Tabe's Volk Han comp which contains the majority of Tamura's matches?

The 'Wrestling on Fast Forward' article was an absolutely fantastic article -- it is now linked to at the bottom of the article. My original post didn't even dispute this. I often throw lazy comments so I guess this is that biting me in the ass now. So I'll answer it properly. We get this: and also this: If you interprete the first point like you did (it doesn't even explain what it is they were doing in Europe) it doesn't add up. We know pro wrestling changed dramatically since it originated in France in the 19th century of whenever but if americans didn't invent pro wrestling (which they didn't), then what exactly did they change? They popularized it, sure, but rarely do I see people address these things. Maybe there are proper answers on wrestlingclassics or somewhere. Loss answered that on twitter by mentioning championships, commentary and stuff like that, but those are really sports ideas and the idea that americans are the only ones who could possibly think of them are laughable, and it's questionable whether they were the ones to first think of them (I really can't fathom there not being a "wrestling champion" of some sorts before wrestling spread to the US, it's just human nature to want to decide who is the best/strongest etc.) When you refer to wrestling's origins in France, you are referring to touring shoot grappling outfits right? Isn't it widely agreed that what we would not consider the traditional working aspects of wrestling originated in the United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries?

Paul Cooke recently wrote an article for the site entitled 'The Homogenization of Pro Wrestling', which brought up some interesting points that are pretty relevant to the kinds of discussions that take place on PWO. In particular, he questions whether the modern equivalents of Ultimo Guerrero, Tiger Mask, Gran Hamada, Guerrero, and Mysterio -- who merged styles and ways of working in certain respects -- have now become the norm as far as the global landscape is concerned. There is also a big question as to whether or not WWE's acquisition of talent and creative restrictions, to whatever extent, will and have caused a fading of one pro-wrestling's greatest assets -- its diversity as an art form. Thanks Dylan! This is definitely a valid counter opinion. I totally agree with this. As you said, one positive is that guys like Hero, Callihan, Galloway, Sydal and Black are able to contribute to the indie scene in a major way after picking some of the intangibles up in NTX/WWE main roster.

I wrote an article yesterday about NXT and the effect that it may have on independent and international wrestling heading into the future. For whatever reason, it has become the most successful article (traffic wise) in the history of our site by a fairly large margin, and given that there has been some very constructive Twitter discussion on the topic today, I thought that I would make a thread. I agree with this. Han strikes me as shoot-style's answer to a Mysterio or Misawa, in that regardless of one's style preference, it is very difficult not to be impressed by his body of work and elite level performance. On a slightly unrelated note, I have almost finished making my way through his entire match catalogue, and have ranked his matches from best to worst. I will post that ranking within the next few weeks. I have also seen all of his shoot fights, which are amazingly boring, but are important in demonstrating the fact that RINGS matches weren't just shoot fights with worked finishes, as many others have already mentioned in this thread.

Another great show with Dylan, Allan, and Brandon -- three voices I always seek out regardless of platform. This is a purely subjective point, but if Shawn Michaels is in the Hall of Fame, I don't see how you can exclude Danielson, and I think that this point will become even more apparent in the coming years. A large percentage of the current indie rookies will cite him as an influence, I am sure, and this will be an even stronger trend a generation or two up. Danielson, one could argue, was a more important figure than Angle. Then again, even as a big Angle fan, I don't like the the fact that he made it in as quickly as he did.

Jeff Hardy is the obvious example. Brock Lesnar most definitely. Styles can be good on the mic at times, but is generally far more charismatic than he is a great promo -- Chris Benoit is also a good example, I think.

I can't decide if this plan is full proof, or if wooden chair spike deal will serve to scare people off. With that said, if someone doesn't enjoy the concept of two men hating each other so much that the one threatens to drive a BROKEN PIECE OF WOODEN CHAIR into the other's eye, is that person really predisposed to liking wrestling?

Concussions and CTE are the basis of the gigantic class-action lawsuits, the Hollywood movies, and the potential upheaval of the entire sports industry, not orthopedic injuries. I'm following the professionals' lead. Also, I would think that, generally speaking, orthopedic injuries aren't life threatening. Brain injuries seem far more risky, with possible life, career, and personality altering ramifications at play. This doesn't mean that other injuries shouldn't be taken more seriously though, obviously.

I have been meaning to make this thread for quite some time, but for whatever reason failed to get around to it. However, Tanner recently tweeted about this same exact topic, looking for recommendations, which led directly to the creation of this thread. Most people on this board, I would think, have recommend something wrestling related to somebody else in the past, whether the other person was someone looking to get into wrestling, a lapsed fan, searching for something new, or completely ignorant to anything wrestling related. My approach has always been to sit (willing) people down and show them a crazy Ishii-Shibata style brawl if they are new and into martial arts for the action, string, and whatnot, or Misawa-Tsuruta if I am dealing with someone fairly familiar with wrestling already. However, I have found that these approaches rarely work (obviously, recommendations can vary from person to person)) and thought that it may be a good idea to create a thread centred around this topic, hoping that it may help someone pass the pro-graps love onto a friend or family member.

Dylan, do you believe that Triple H should have been inducted into the WON Hall of Fame? Also, a Tanahashi comparison would be great.

I feel that New Japan actually used one counts quite sparingly until night four of the 2013 G1 when Ibushi & Nakamura and Shibata & Ishii tore the house down making heavy use of them. Ever since, one counts have been a staple, specifically for the Honma, Goto, Shibata and Ishii types, at least in major singles matches. Unfortunately, this has led to an overexposure of the spot.

This thread gave me false hope for the return of PowerSlam. I was a religious reader of PowerSlam, but don't remember this. I still have some old issues, so if someone has a month or issue number I may be able to verify.

I am glad that you enjoyed it. We run a weekly newsletter on the site, but the idea of a monthly magazine is interesting. I am not entirely sure if readers would prefer weekly content to be posted on the site, and have a monthly magazine, or rather have the newsletter each week with the online option. This calls for further investigation!

I don't want to sound like I am stuck in the bubble, but this is baffling to me.

I've always understood that the problem with the lucha category is that there are so many deserving candidates that the vote gets split and very few people, if any, get inducted. Is this still the case?

I think that the only reason Fujiwara isn't in the Hall of Fame at this point is that most people think that he was already inducted.
