Your Current Fav Five
Loved the story on Austin's podcast that Bruce Pritchard tells about how Doink came about because Borne showed up to a WWF show looking miserable so Road Warrior Hawk started calling him Krusty the Clown then pitched the idea to Vince... I had never heard that story as well FLIK until I heard Bruce Prichard tell it on Austin's podcast. Out of interest *IF* Hawk did indeed see Bourne looking Krusty-Esque I don't think it would be for WWF as Doink's debut was in October 12th 1992 on a Superstars taping, when he was shown in the crowd. Bourne did not work the WWF in 1992 before this. Earlier in the year Bourne was in WCW as Big Josh until August 10, 1992. In 1992 Hawk did not appear for WCW when Bourne was working as Josh so I am unsure where there paths would of crossed for Hawk to see Bourne backstage slumped look miserable. Edit: I asked Bruce via Twitter and his response was: "WWF in Hamilton Ontario 92 or 93". I checked again and Hawk didn't work Hamilton at all in 1992 for WWF.

WCW's Highway to Hell
El-P, you've done a sterling job covering all this dross. I am saddened that you didn't enjoy 2001 WCW as much as I did at the time. Maybe if I went back and revisited it, I would probably come to the same opinion as you.

I'd be shocked if Colon didn't get in this year.

[1990-01-20-USWA-Memphis TV] Interview: Jerry Lawler
I love Lawler is continuing the Zach Morris phone gimmick again. And his sweater is excellent too, especially standing behind a some bails of hay. Got to love Memphis.

[1990-01-20-WWF-Superstars] Jake Roberts and Ted DiBiase
I didn't think this was racist at all, like others said. JVK is right as the whole Virgil / DiBiase fallout is not rushed at all and the seeds are planted months before the actual split. I completely prefer Roberts as a heel but I will try and give this face run and feud with DiBiase a chance.

Not much to add apart from like many, I loved the Powerslam spot in the match and the Manuel Noriega reference was the first but not last mention of the Dictator in January by somebody. It was all over the news at this point as he was captured by US soliders in Panama at the start of the month.

Undertaker > Hogan
I have to agree with Frank, and disagree with Mad Dog. Mike Tyson is far bigger to the masses worldwide than the Hulkster would ever, ever be. Tyson is in that top tier of well know sportsmen with the likes of Michael Jordan, Pelé, Muhammed Ali, Tiger Woods, Magic Johnson and David Beckham.

Undertaker > Hogan
I think a good "acid test" of Hogan's current popularity versus other celebrities and "icons" would be to use http://www.google.com/trends/ to see how often he is searched for since google started recording these results in 2004. Nb. He is searched more than Carrot Top

Exceptions to the rule
He's far from "out" at all. He works various indies, has a full time school, appears on podcasts all the time and is a consultant for the WWE Performance Centre as well as writing a blog and tweeting about wrestling.

Undertaker > Hogan
If you look outside the American bubble he is still, very much, a hugely recognisable and certainly deemed a famous celebrity. I have asked 3 non wrestling fans just now and they have all heard of Hulk Hogan, which they have, and can exactly describe how he looks.

Exceptions to the rule
Kevin Nash just celebrated his 25 year wedding anniversary yesterday, which goes totally against the grain (or seems to), aspeople in the business can't seem to stay married for such a long period of time. (The McMahons being the notable exceptions). This got me thinking, what other examples are there of wrestlers bucking the trend, like Nash, when it comes to marriage of someone who was on the road for such a long period of time, and was world champion/high profile? There are other things that people think are the normal as it pertains to being a wrestler such as never retiring, health issues etc. Never retiring is interesting because people have had to retire due to health, but most big stars over the last 20 years don't retire as such, but just fade into obscurity somewhat or still make appearances and take the odd bump or are involved in an angle. Many don't just retire and walk away completely. So, what other trends do people feel most wrestlers follow in life, and who, as the topic title suggests, have bucked these trends?
