  1. C.S. replied to goodhelmet's topic in AEW
On a different note entirely... I'm talking to a friend now, and we're both wondering if Impact will even appear on the Pursuit Roku app tomorrow. "Probably not" is our guess, which is pure "LOLTNA." (I realize they're also streaming live on Twitch, which isn't on Roku officially, but still.) This makes me wonder if AEW is smart enough to get a deal with Netflix or Amazon for live or least next-day TV. (I assume Hulu is out of the question because they have a deal with WWE, but who knows.) That would open some eyes, and it seems like an avenue most of the old farts in rasslin' have ignored. Well, you can't accuse Tony Khan, Cody and Brandi Rhodes, and the Young Bucks of being old farts. They all know what Netflix is.
  2. Overly scripted promo bullshit is one of the banes of modern wrestling. Let wrestlers sink or swim on their own. Can't be any worse than what we currently get.

Hopefully it at least means their signed guys will get full health insurance, but they'll also rely on part-time outside talent that won't (ROH, NJPW, NWA, Impact, etc. if those working relationships ever happen). This is rasslin' though, so I'm skeptical.
  4. Love this thread, especially the awesome long recap and discussion posts by @The Thread Killer and @SomethingSavage, but this post deserves special recognition:
  5. Well, YA KNOW SOMETHING, Mean Gene... Buy my t-shirt, BROTHER!
  6. They avoided him for two years. For better or worse, he's back now. (I'm not defending racism - I'm just stating a fact about what the situation actually is now.) If they're going to use him anyway, this is the way to do it.
  7. I'm sure people here will have a problem with it (for obvious reasons), but it's honestly the perfect way to use Hogan. I hope Flair also shows up, as his "Mean BY GOD Gene" was a close second to Hogan's "Well, YA KNOW SOMETHING, Mean Gene!"
  8. Unlike Hogan, wasn't it the WWE's decision to let Gene and Bobby go? I've always wondered what the hell Vince was thinking.
  9. Still waiting for an answer to this... The post below doesn't clarify anything for me. Okay, so "rovert" is "legit connected." But who is he? Is he someone who is only known in the Twitter realm?
  10. For people like me who only casually follow Twitter, it would be helpful to know who some of these people are... Bix: I recognize him as David Bixenspan, whose writing I've read and enjoyed. I may have discovered his articles through the PWO message board, but I'm not sure. Les Moore: No idea who he is. Sean Ross Sapp: Vaguely familiar with his name from that Fightful site, which I've visited only a small handful of times. Casey Michael: Never heard of him. rovert: Not familiar with him. What is his name, or does he post everywhere as rovert? Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez: Like Carlos Colon in the '93 Rumble, I have a feeling these are two up-and-coming "youngsters" we should keep an eye on.
  11. Which seems to me like a very dumb way to run a business, but what do I know? *Shrug*
  12. Yeah, this is definitely the appropriate thread to air these thoughts - especially using the queen's English like "sucked balls."
  13. Seems like an overreaction though. ROH isn't going to go out of business. They were fine before the "Elite" and they'll be fine after. I still think AEW's business model will be what we saw at All In - working relationships with ROH, the NWA, and NJPW.
  14. Does anyone really give a shit if this affects ROH? The days of ROH being a sympathetic online favorite are long over. The product has been dogshit for a while now - the shows are unwatchable with terrible production values - and being owned by the vile and corrupt Sinclair Broadcasting is another nail in their coffin, perception-wise. Attending an old-school ROH show live - Supercard of Honor II - will forever be one of my greatest memories as a wrestling fan, but that ROH died many years ago. NJPW will be fine either way, even if Jay White (or whoever) doesn't end up being an adequate replacement for Kenny Omega. In the end, I'm guessing AEW will work with not only NJPW but also ROH and the NWA - just like we saw at All In - so it's a moot point anyway.
  15. The comments section of CagesideSeats.com seems pretty "meh" about AEW too, for whatever that's worth. I think people will be a lot more excited once this becomes a more concrete "real" thing - TV deal, actual signings, etc. At this point, there are still too many questions and unknowns.
  16. I'm in shock. This one hurts. Was not expecting it at all. Not only was he one of the most iconic wrestling voices of all time, he was one of the most iconic television broadcast voices IMO. I'll never understand why WWE ever let him go.
  17. The truth, I'm sure, is a lot less interesting. Cody and The Bucks are probably reasonably "close" to Meltzer. My guess is that they gave him the scoop but asked him to hold off on it until a certain date. That's far different than Meltzer being on their payroll, which I don't believe. Even if DM was tempted by that, which I highly doubt, he just has to look back at past history and ask himself how much credibility Bob Ryder has. (The answer: zero.)
  18. I doubt it, because why pay Dave when you can get his "consultation" every week in the WON for $10.99 a month or whatever he charges now?
  19. I don't watch BTE. Is this where it was officially announced? If so, I'm not seeing the "conflict" in Dave reacting to that with his own report. I assume Bix is saying Dave knew beforehand but withheld the information? The thing is, like you said: Which it seems Bix is also saying? So, I'm confused... Probably because I don't really pay attention to Twitter all that much. (Somehow I think I'm better off.)
  20. I don't know what's going on with Bix and Dave/Bryan, but is anyone really surprised that Dave broke the news? After all, he is the reason "All In" happened in the first place (with the whole Cody Rhodes to Dave "I'll take that bet" Twitter exchange).
  21. My initial instinct was Bryan easily, but I have to say, this post makes a really compelling case for Edge.
  22. I'm currently reading Nitro by Guy Evans. So far so good, but I'm still very early into it. That's good to know. I'm glad I grabbed it! (Although, to be honest, any wrestling book under $2 is probably an insta-buy for me.) What sticks out in my memory is Kevin Nash being referred to as "evil."
  23. The Mildred Burke book Queen of the Ring is currently $1.99 on Kindle. https://smile.amazon.com/Queen-Ring-Muscles-Diamonds-American-ebook/dp/B008UX348O/
  24. It works both ways though. Everyone who bought the Mabel KOTR went into it expecting Taker vs. HBK, including me.
  25. This is the WWE, where tournaments have always sucked. Yes, you can point to a few isolated good matches and some great winners, but let's say there have been 100 King of the Ring tournament matches over the years - maybe 5 of them were actual classics.
