Under-the-radar wrestling book recommendations
Found this free book through Reddit: Professional Wrestling - The Theatre of the Absurd: I Never Wanted to be a Big Star by Tom Rocky Stone, aka Steve Hall I've never heard of this book or the author, but it sounds interesting - and free is free! https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B096YBR7FF/

WWE TV 06/07 - 06/13 Boxing is just pro wrestling now
The Bellas say it's because their babies are getting older and they don't want to raise their kids on camera when the kids have no say in the matter. Commendable.

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 4
While I think it's questionable to trust your body to a bingo hall nobody like Nick Gage, I will say in Cardona's defense that he desperately needs to reinvent himself. The Zack Ryder "woo woo woo" shit is completely played out. Displaying a different side of his character/personality isn't necessarily a bad thing, and it might get promoters to see him in a new light. Similar to the dead in the water CJ Parker becoming Juice Robinson, Cody reinventing himself with the list of dream matches after Stardust, etc. (Different situations there, but same overall effect.) Case-in-point: This is the most anyone has talked about Zack Ryder/Matt Cardona in years. Even his AEW/TNA stints were met with apathy and crickets.

Supposedly Cardona's action figure hobby/business is lucrative. This Gage thing sounds like Cardona doing what he wants to do now, having fun, and giving no fucks because he's already made his money.

What am I missing? What did he say there that was objectionable?

NWA Powerrr
The NWA took all the wrong lessons from...er, well, the NWA.

You mean the match where a "rogue cameraman" flashed a fireball in Hogan's face for the finish? Hardly a squash or a clean loss.

Is the empire crumbling before our eyes?
While I'm sure it's true that there are "some kangaroos loose in Drake's top paddock" (lol), speaking in present tense - which a lot of people do, whether it's warranted it or not - isn't really an indication of that.

No indie promoter is going to give a shit about that, nor should they. But Braun isn't going to your local bingo hall anyway... He'd sign with another major league promotion or Japan, if he goes anywhere at all. My guess is he's back in WWE by WrestleMania.

Is the empire crumbling before our eyes?
Drake Wuertz opened up about his release, and it's a real doozy - blaming David Bixenspan for getting the ball rolling, "woke cancel culture," and acting like his suspension was because he refused to stop going to church during a pandemic. With that said, he did publicly disavow Q and said he had Covid like "whole chunk of the roster" so he's not a Covid-denier. At least that's something. https://www.fightful.com/wrestling/drake-wuertz-admits-he-tested-positive-covid-wasn-t-surprised-wwe-release

Is the empire crumbling before our eyes?
Don't forget that wacky (and probably untrue) rumor where he kneeled in front of Karen Angle/Jarrett in a bar begging for forgiveness so he wouldn't get heat with Kurt.

WWE Network... It's Here
The Stone Cold interview with The Godfather wasn't bad. Nothing earth-shattering, but you do get to see a couple of pics of what the revamped Papa Shango would've looked like. A fun, breezy hour and a half.

The contracts of Awesome Kong and Shanna expired and weren't renewed. https://www.mandatory.com/wrestlezone/news/1237681-report-aew-didnt-renew-expired-contracts-of-awesome-kong-and-shanna Sad news, especially about Kong, who I was hoping would get another big run out of this. Double whammy with Netflix renewing GLOW, only to turn right back around and cancel it (although that was a while ago). At least she got one major showcase episode where she delivered an Emmy-worthy performance.

AEW Double or Nothing 2021
I didn't order the show, but I'm here to see if Christian wins the battle royal. @MoS, it's awesome that you're there live. Enjoy yourself!

All Elite Wrestling
While I agree with your general point, I don't think a battle royal is the reason why Matt Sydal looked like less of a star than Jon Moxley - the only reason for that is because Matt Sydal IS less of a star than Jon Moxley.

WWE-NJPW working relationship in the works
It would be smart if WWE officially lets Bryan work NJPW. If they had taken that approach with Jericho, maybe he'd still be there. Makes sense not to make the same mistake twice.

AEW Dark Megathread
What's the deal with Janela? Before AEW, he seemed to have a fair bit of hype (well, maybe not on PWO). But he has always come across to me like a middling 1980s jobber. Actually, worse, because at least they were unique. Sonny Kiss is the real star of that team.

Plus, J.R. himself unnecessarily mentioned Kenny, which is why he's the guy everyone in AEW is naming.

I posted a variation of this in another thread: Insane conspiracy theory after Adnan Virk (Raw commentator)'s WWE release: With Jim Ross idiotically calling Randy Orton the best wrestler in the world instead of, ya know, someone from his own fucking company (okay, we'll pretend to appreciate his "honesty"), could Good Ol' J.R. be preparing to move back to WWE? Raw could certainly use someone right about now. When someone brought up Kenny, I responded with: Which is why I didn't suggest Kenny as the "alternate answer" because that brings about its own set of controversies and disagreements. But is it too much to ask for a guy to put his own company over? Apparently so. J.R. could've said Christian, been 100% correct, and not sounded like he was burying AEW.
