I would agree but I think they probably took enough shit to not do it again for a while, especially when it became known that they had their most profitable year ever during the pandemic. They released all those people while a lot of sports leagues and massive corporations were getting away with firing/furloughing people under the guise of preservation to boost their bottom line.

Is there going to be a purge of talent from WWE and AEW once COVID is considered “over enough” that it’s socially acceptable to release a bunch of people? Or are they both going to continue warehousing wrestlers they have no intention of ever using?

It’s such a shame that SSB had those visa issues right as they were starting to take off in the states. If they had been able to work in the US during those pre-AEW years, there’s no way Stu and Uno would be on anyone’s cut list. They’re an awesome team. I also like Drake and Bear Country. If I was a wrestling company, I don’t think I’d release Joey Janela but at the same time I don’t think the AEW aesthetic works with him at this point and I’d be thrilled to go see him consistently on the independent scene again.

If there was any kind of viable indy scene for them to squash these days, running two nights of NXT and two nights of Mania would do it. Since there isn’t one, I think they’ll do it on one night unless Peacock insists.
