  1. I had no idea Ace was this good in 1990. Jumbo is probably the best ace ever in terms of giving guys lower on the totem pole chances to shine.
  2. This was not great. But as mentioned above, if there are no belts what else are you going to use to set things up? I do agree that basically calling your guy a chump in relation to some other promotion's guy is probably not the best idea.
  3. Don't get me wrong, I love Flair on the mic and he can talk people into a building. But Arn promos always seem more up my alley. Flair backing up Arn is no problem at all for me.
  4. Eddie is so great as the complete and total prick, but also justified. If these two didn't have real life heat they sure were good at making it seem like they did.
  5. The suits really do set this apart from the majority of 1990 USWA. The touch of class when dealing with the heavyweight title seems right. Snowman remarks aside that is.
  6. Great stuff from everybody involved. Jake in particular is incredible selling his eye being hurt.
  7. Hmmm, so after the big to-do earlier about a tournament for a first round bye, Dundee has a match against an affiliate of Eddie Gilbert's. I wonder how that ends.... So yeah, another big Memphis heel beatdown. Never would have guessed we'd see Gilbert out.
  8. I've heard Savage say that a wrestler's best character is basically themselves turned up to 11. Could it be that Sid truly is a crazy roided up dude that did think he ruled the world? And that's why his promos sounded so genuine if they stayed short?
  9. This match to me served two purposes. 1. Keep building Kobashi up as a plucky kid full of fighting spirit. 2. Introduce us to the real Toshiaki Kawada, you know the surly bastard who likes to kick people in the face and just generally be a dick. Love watching that guy.
  10. Here's the thing about Bobby Eaton's 1990. There are a lot of wrestlers who would kill to have a singles match this good with only their prior history as a build. Because it is a very, very good match. That it compares so unfavorably with even his recent singles work says a Hell of a lot.
  11. Smothers is one crazy bastard at the end. Pretty good match, but I've seen better recently. Again with the BS finish.
  12. To be fair, they were bound to be pissed at Taue. He had left their side and joined Jumbo's army. Death to the damned traitor! Anyway, really great tag match with Kawada looking waaay more like Kawada than he has to this point. Why did Taue drop doing the elbows when he got pissed at Misawa anyway? Seemed like one of the highlights to me.
  13. I suppose one thing you have to expect when you put marquee singles matches on the TV shows like this, finishes will be wonky. Especially given we are one year removed from the 80s. Good match on the level of the Eaton match. I like that you can look at Arn and Eaton in this series and really get a picture of how they worked.
  14. Count me in as appalled by the announcing. The match wasn't any good either, but the announcing trumped it in so many ways.
  15. I remember Heenan saying something about Rude never really wanting him as his manager. Rude apparently felt that Bobby stole some of his heat. You might take this as at least matching Bobby's performance in an attempt to seem like the alpha of the group.
  16. Bossman and Heenan do some great work here. Bobby is incredible, but I imagine Vince thinks he's too old to keep doing crazy shit like that bump during the segment. His freaking out while handcuffed to the guard rails is so great.
  17. Eddie shows a little bit of range in this, which I like. It still seems like a very Eddie Gilbert thing to bitch and moan about the car you won, then turn around and complain about it being stolen.
  18. Pettipas wrestles way different than you would expect, but nothing too special. Rogers is really, really good. I'm in the same boat wondering why he's in Grand Prix. He's at least good enough to be on the WCW midcard if not a bit better.
  19. I disagree on the Zenk hot tag, but I am pretty biased to do that. Pillman was a lot of fun against both Flair and Arn. Not sure I've ever seen a DQ for a move done on the floor.
  20. I thought Brother Love did great with this. I am in agreement that this was a terrible idea, but the execution seems to work for the people involved, including Piper.
  21. Bobby Eaton is so incredible. Scotty is good at this point, but not near good enough to have a match like this without a LOT of help.
  22. I'll echo a lot of the above. The guitar shot and strut, the well-timed comebacks, the crowd and Caras being a complete dick about taking off the mask. Not the most technical or spectacular match, but it works.
  23. Luger really delivers and it's kinda strange for me to see Hansen cutting promos. He's not overly great, but gets the job done. I'd say he's better as a physical presence stomping around and menacing everyone in sight. Good way to hype the match though.
