  2. Piper hardly killed the gimmick. The gimmick killed Tony Atlas really. What the Hell was the point of dressing a guy with the promo chops Atlas had like this exactly? Was this where Vince started to protect himself with the "You didn't make you, I made you" kind of shit he does all the time now?
  3. Dusty delivers big again with a promo. And you know, Dusty vs. Ted doesn't sound like a bad matchup in-ring at all. Even without the great promos involved.
  4. So everywhere Sid goes he is going to rule the world? Not a bad promo, but I'm not sure there are any different Sid promos out there.
  5. I'll echo the opinions on Sherri. She is so incredible. Warrior holds up his end more than well enough, which is a shocker.
  6. Count me in on liking the Ace/Fulton interactions. I'm pretty certain I've never seen a bad Fantastics match in AJPW. Makes me wonder if they couldn't have bolstered the cruiserweight division in WCW a few years later.
  7. Could have used at least 10 minutes less of the 3 (or 4) on 2 rudo beatdown. I guess we had to establish that the tecnicos are still tough.
  8. Finish worked for what the match was, but Yatsu needed to be more assertive if he was going to be a foil for Tenryu.
  9. Vader and Hash beating the Hell out of each other can't be bad. It just wasn't overly good, but seems like there is more to come.
  10. The Brazos move around way better than their size would have you believe. Super Porky is a really fun character when not taken to ridiculous levels of camp.
  11. Hase's ridiculous great blade job makes this. Muta shines, but not as much due to his own efforts as those of Hase.
  12. Not as good as earlier in the year, but still better than the Sting match. I suppose they had to give this less time being the semi-main and all.
  13. I'd like to comment on the action here, however.... Goodbye Tony Falk!! I won't miss you!! Goodbye Craig Johnson! You were getting better but not good enough!
  14. Again I thought this post-match beating went on too long, but it is Memphis I guess. It wasn't in any way badly done. Lawler's promo is brilliant as always and I so wan to see some Lawler vs. Gilbert footage.
  15. So I'd never seen it before and I could have told you that the "first" Scorpion was not the guy in the interviews or whatnot. The post-match Scorpion looked a little better, but really, Sting was shocked at this? Ole must have really had a bone to pick with the NWA's booking at this point.
  16. Sick and ultimately unnecessary bump by Lawler, but the guy loved the big bumps so I doubt he was going to be dissuaded. How he wasn't more hurt than he was is beyond me.
  17. On rewatch, this time for the overall 1990, this comes in just a little short of my favorite MX vs. RnR and Dandy vs. Azteca. HOWEVER...it still completely and totally rules. Taue and Kawada start building the hate, which I have been waiting for since they both showed up in 90. Their tag team is my favorite of all time and I'd rather see them together. But damn when Kawada just starts wailing away on Taue it's almost as fun. The above mentioned sequence with Kawada ducking a lariat, leveling Jumbo and tagging in a FIRED UP Misawa was beautiful in ways you just don't see often in a pro wrestling ring. Jumbo's early work on Misawa's ribs was vicious and great. Fuchi lives up to the "MF" on his tights working over Kobashi's nose for sure. Kobashi really establishes himself here as somebody to watch. He's shown flashes of it, but he really and truly shines in this match. Taue continues to grow and really feels like he belongs in this match. One thing I do have to say here is that under 5 months ago, these guys were all midcarders (besides Jumbo) with no real great prospects for the future. And here they are putting on a match as well-executed as you'll see anywhere in the world. It's a real testament to how far the 4 Pillars have come in that time. Fuchi surely had this in him all along, he was never called on to do it until now. But to me this match shows some insane progress from Taue, Kobashi, Kawada and Misawa.
  18. I have a theory about Kikuchi. He doesn't have neck bones like the rest of us. He's got some kind of super-resilient rubbery substance that always snaps back into place regardless of impact or how it's bent. Anyway, great midcard AJPW spotfest tag. Fantastics and Can Ams always knocked these out of the park.
  19. Hard to say any more about this than has been already said. If the 6/8 match was Misawa's match, this was Jumbo's match in answer to that. Not that Misawa (or Jumbo the first time around) is not represented, but this match is about Jumbo staving off Misawa's challenge. And Misawa definitely delivers on a level that Jumbo is threatened, which is pretty amazing when you think that just over 3 months ago he was meandering around the midcard as Tiger Mask.
  20. Fun tag match with Lawler and Dundee working in their comedy spots really well. I have to agree that Tatum was perfect for this kind of thing.
  21. Good ending to the feud, but I'm not sure the Adams and CVE got near enough payback for the months of humiliation that got them there.
  22. Percy in the dress is just ridiculous, but it works. More heels getting way more on the babyfaces than they ought to in Dallas.
  23. Easily the match of the show. When you're competing against warrior/Rude and a way overbooked Harts/Demo that's not saying much, but this match was way better than expected. I think the rap on Hogan is at least somewhat undeserved. He could work enough to make matches like this work, even dragged something not awful out of Warrior at Mania.
